Maybe ... but not if it means Bryan, too. Which, history shows, would most likely be the case.

The Suns are in a great position to look ahead. Even Sarver seems to be keeping his ego in check. The Suns are in a position they've never been in.

A new image is on the horizon. Let's stop looking back.

P.S.: Just for the record, I cringe every time I see Bryan referred to as BC. Those are my initials and I had them decades before Bryan. :)
As much as I admire JC and it would be tempting to have him back as an owner, his age means it would be short term--at least with active influence. And I am not really interested in having BC here.

I've read a fair amount of Sixers Reddit and listened to a sixers podcast and one thing is certain, they hate the Colangelo's. Not just Bryan, they hate Jerry too. They are pissed the league stepped in and forced Jerry upon them and that Bryan is a product of Jerry's nepotism. They have no respect for Jerry and feel he is power hungry.

I was really surprised to hear the same thing from a good friend of mine who is a massive everything Philly fan and he and all his friends hated the Colangelos also.

It is almost unthinkable that posts like these would appear in Phoenix. The full history is that the Valley owes a lot to Jerry Colangelo. He played a key role in starting the Suns as our first major professional team. He was instrumental in the origin of the D-backs. I believe he played a role in attracting the Cardinals. Actively involved the with USA team and the NBA front office.

As a General Manager over the decades, he was steady, but less than stellar. And as a Managing General Partner, it remained the same. His ego showed when he named himself interim Head Coach, not once but twice, rather than bring in a pro.

Once he came into prominence in our small market, Jerry became a politician. He was a very active voice and presence as a member of the Phoenix 40 political group which literally ran the Valley. Not the day to day details, but the overall direction. Until the influx of residents from outside the State turned this highly Conservative community much more moderate. And, oh yes, Jerry was guilty of nepotism, treating the Suns as his family business. These are the good's and the bad's.

When you post that the folks in Philly "hate" Jerry and feel he is "power hungry", it reflects that he turned from a sports guy into a politician. Hence, we can't be surprised when he acts like a politician. Now that he is no longer a local guy and one of us, we can look at his behavior objectively. Once again, first and foremost, Mr. Colangelo turned into a politician. And, let's face it, politicians are not viewed favorably in these times. Because of their self serving behavior in most instances.

It is the path Jerry chose. And, especially, because he is no longer part of our community, Arizonans can be objective in reacting and are doing so. Who would have thought? It is ironic that his spoiled son and daughter-in-law, who were handed everything on a silver platter, would be Jerry's undoing. There is no reason to want the Colangelo dynasty back in Phoenix and involved with our teams.

I don't think Jerry has changed that much. It's just Philly. They are going to hate anyone forced upon them. And then, whether or not there was nepotism, there certainly was the appearance of it. And then the Boston trade happened last summer.

Jerry is learning that the grass is not always greener somewhere else. As far as threatening Philly ownership, yikes, I would assume Jerry is out too. But that story is just based upon rumor so far.

He hasn't changed! Once he stepped beyond the Suns and became involved in politics in the Valley decades ago, I'll say it again. He became a politician.

But we shouldn't say that too loudly. It might give his successor, Robert Sarver, ideas. If so, I hope it is in San Diego, where he works out of, and not Phoenix. :)

Just asked my wife. "Can you see a wife arguing secretly and supporting her husband on twitter and not telling her husband about it?"

Her answer, "Of course, why? Can't you?"

Just sayin. Curious what your wives would say.
Look at how you phrased that! Cmon man.

I think a better question would be:

“Can you see yourself arguing in a public forum using multiple hidden identities, and using private corporate information to harass and belittle my employees and co-workers and also to stand up for me and keeping it secret from me?” If she says “yes” I think you have cause for concern . . .

That' my point. If Bryan goes to Jerry and says...."dad I didn't do this, the organization is trying to railroad me", then Jerry defends him I have zero issues with that.

The narrative is completely different if Jerry knew Bryan was guilty and acted like the Godfather.

I don't know about you but most of us parents would side with our kids and take their word for it unless presented with evidence of the contrary.
Even if BC was innocent jerry has to understand his son’s position with that organization has been compromised beyond repair. Those players aren’t going to be cool working with a man whose wife trashed them publicly. Jerry has to recognize that the organization has to act in its own best interests in firing BC. So even if BC was innocent I still find it disturbing that Jerry threatened the organization (if that’s accurate). I understand being a father, but Jerry’s been in this business a looooong time and has to understand the business’ perspective.

I bet Sarver is happy that some of the luster has faded from the Colangelo name.

I wouldn't say he is no longer part of our community. I know he is heavily involved with GCU and if I'm not mistaken, he still makes his home here.

This we agree on.

Why wouldn’t the Sixers fans hate the Colangelos? Hinkie had that team positioned to be great then was forced out right as things were turning around. Then the first major move they make is that short sighted Fultz trade which really screwed them.

I think the backing of a for-profit University like GCU and the role he played in bringing them to division 1 ruffled aalot of feathers and has also tarnished his image.

Jerry is definitely still involved with the community here. That's why he got the Men's USA Basketball practice/training facility to make it's home here in Tempe. Since he doesn't own any large businesses or teams it's not surprising that he doesn't have the same pull as he once did. It's incorrect to say that he's completely removed from the Phoenix-metro community though.

I find it more amusing that Bryan's wife was defending his huge collared shirts rather than Bryan doing that himself. The idea she knows inside medical info about NBA players but doesn't know her husband orders custom made dress shirts with oversized collars is amusing.

I had a grudgeing admiration of JC as wheeler-dealer but I hated his choice of coaches - he refused to hire anyone with enough backbone to stand up to him. MacCloed was the worst of them. Then he installed his son as the GM and I lost all respect for him. He topped it off by selling the team to Sarver. I'll be happy if there is never any further connection between the Suns and the Colangeli.

You're right. I shouldn't have said that JC is no longer part of our community. But he is certainly not involved in Phoenix politics any more, nor part of the Suns. Or Diamondbacks. Nor a Valley public icon, even with his behind the scenes involvement with GCU as a devout Christian.

He and his family are no longer immune from our criticism if they do wrong. He is sort of a microcosm of the United States as seen by the rest of the world. "See you on the way down, Mr. Big."

It is sad. But when some people are so powerful and they come crashing down, it is the price of the power they once held. Certainly, he could not transfer that power to the Philly community. As with New York and Boston, it is a tough market, man! As Randy Johnson found out in the Big Apple. They destroyed him. It is a lot different than the laid back Southwest, where Jerry (despite his Chicago background as a very young man) was a big fish in a smaller pond.

This is a great, level-headed article, summing up the story.

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/07/sports/bryan-colangelo-sixers-wife.html

So, who was the tipster that started all of this? Maybe one of Danny Ainge's kids.

Wouldn't that be something? BC's wife tries to build him up with burner twitter accounts and ends up getting him fired.

One of Ainge's kids (total speculation, could be anyone), or some Boston fan, tries to help the Celtics by disrupting the Sixers organization by dropping this tip. But it ends up getting BC fired and paving the way for the Sixers to hire David Griffin and sign LeBron.

Oh, that horrible Law of Unintended Consequences.
