What do the Cardinals do with a first round draft pick that played all season like a 5th rounder? Trade, develop or "You're crazy, it's way to early in his career to tell"?

Develop him. Too early to dump him. Oh yea, and buy him some glasses so he can see the ball coming.

Keep. The guy started the season as the #4 option. The depth chart was SUPPOSED to be

1. Gilmore
2. Foster
3. Boldin
4. McAddley/B. Johnson

Seriously, BJ was supposed to "redshirt" this season a little bit. He was forced into the starting lineup, and I think that he did pretty well, for a raw, raw rookie in his position. Personally, I think he deserves about 45% of the criticism that he's gotten on this board, and it's not really fair.

Bryant Johnson has been kind of punished for the poor planning of Graves, Mac, and Sullivan. I think that he'll develop into a solid, solid player. If you remember, the big escalator in his rookie deal was that he participate in something like 35% of the offensive plays, and I think he managed that (anyone know, by the way?). That's not bad, frankly, and for the time that he was on the field, he did well.

Give the kid some time. It's not HIS fault that Foster, Gilmore, and McAddley were pretty much complete failures this season .

Huh? Bryant Johnson played like a rookie first round pick.

Look up the statistics for most rookie first rounders, and you will see that Bryant had a typical season.

Develop him. He has the talent, just needs more refinement.

Agree totally. The criticism is way off base, and is magnified by Quan's all time best rookie season. BJ was fairly decent, and most teams would be happy with his success.

Perhaps he did play like an average rookie 1st round 17th(?) pick, I guess it was Boldin's performing like a pro bowler that makes Bryant look so much less impressive.

Seeing what so many other quality players have done in the past and managed to come down with Simeonitis and left the Cards as soon as they could, do you foresee Boldin doing something like that in the future or do you think he is dedicated to working it through with the Cards?

I heard the Cards were going to redo his contact and pay him like a first round pick next year.

I think Johnson will turn out to be a good receiver. Some people just take a little longer to develop. Unfortunately for him he was playing beside the rookie of the year. I still have high hopes for him and Wendell Bryant once we get some good players to go with them and some coaches who coach and develop some decent game plans.

Hear here!

I'm hesitant to give up on almost ANY players on this roster until we see how they perform under new stewardship. I'm especially suspicious of those calling for the outright release of players like Bryant, D. Starks, A. Wilson, and A. Clement. These players didn't just BECOME bad once they were drafted or re-signed. Someone ALLOWED it to happen.

There are a few players whom I will be glad to see given their walking papers by the new regime:

1. Fred Wakefield. Nice career. I'll be glad to have you check out my movies for me at Blockbuster.
2. Bryan Gilmore. Sully and Mac pinned their hopes on your development for their jobs. You responded with 17 receptions, 208 yards, and 2 TDs. You were an opening day starter, for goodness' sake!
3. Chris Dishman. New coaches bring in their own pet players. I hear that Wakefield needs an assistant, though.
4. Jason Starkey. I don't know who the hotties that wear t-shirts with your name on 'em are, but they'll be missed. You on the roster, though, will not.

It's all good. It's just that the "Boldin Holdout" post was just kind of unnecessary. If you're joking around, fine, but Anquan has a lot of fans here, and deservedly so. The WAY that you expressed yourself even turned off a mild-mannered poster like myself.

We Cards fans are a little protective of our stars, and have thin skins about holdouts.

Agreed and apologies for the poor manner of posting the thought. I love the Quan and what he did for us this year but I have also seen too many players suddenly decide they are too good for the Cardinals. I hope Boldin does not become one of them.

Personally, I'd be surprised. When 'Quan was on The Big Red Rage, Dex brought it up, and I really think that it was the furthest thing from his mind.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Cards do for Anquan what they did for Jake, only right before the stadium opens: Give him a huge contract extension and the largest signing bonus ever for the position. He's that kind of player, and that kind of class act.

Quan will make more money in endorsements and other stuff as time moves along and he becomes the standard bearer for the franchise.

Not certain why Wakefield should be gone, he is an intelligent player with some skills and should be a backup on the roster. He did well off the bench the last few games and shows more improvement given less athleticism than others - W Bryant - who you don't want to throw out.

Q is the anti Rice. He is US focused not ME focused. I think it is a little early to be concerned, he 3/4 years left on his contract and I heard romors on the radio thay want to redo his deal asap (which is this summer). Chill out
