Making Strong Cases:

RB Elijhaa Penny---tough runs, showing some burst, good blocker on punts
C Daniel Munyer---solid in the pivot
WR/KR Jeremy Ross---only playmaker on offense other than Penny
OLB Cap Capi---highly productive---
S Rudy Ford---tackles and wraps, unlike most of the players on defense, good STs

Not Looking Good:

G Cole Toner---played G better last year, not an NFL caliber G
T Will Holden---very uneven
T Ulrich John---doesn't finish plays or blocks
WR Aaron Dobson---doesn't command the ball, had bad drop
DE Rodney Gunter---got manhandled in the goal-line, very inconsistent, hot and cold motor
LB Philip Wheeler---flies around but doesn't finish off enough plays
S Harlan Miller---not an NFL caliber S---poor tackler, doesn't wrap

I think Gump Hayes could be a good fit for the PS.

If we could combine Ryan Lewis' cover ability with Gump Hayes' tackling, we'd have a real good CB. I think Hayes has a better chance at safety;

I really like Ironhead Gallon...he's got the right motor and temperament.

Penny sucks.. Still trying to see what anyone sees in the kid??? Reminds me a lot of the Stepfan Taylor love that used to permeate this board... The kid is literally nothing to write home about.

I have no idea why the broadcast crew was praising him so much the first half. He has the vision of a bat and the elusiveness of a fire hydrant.

He is a straight ahead-I-don't-care-if-there-is-a-hole-or-not kind of runner.

There are literally tons of guys with his "ability" about to be unemployed in 48 hrs.

The bubbles where busted before this game. I think all the decisions on the roster where already made removed from the punters who still might all get jousted for Lee in my opinion

I'm with you guys on Penny. There isn't a thing about him that makes me think he should keep a roster spot over CJ or Ellington, and especially not over a more needy spot on the roster. But I haven't gone back myself to check out guys on special teams, so I'd get it.

Saturday will be interesting.

Never understood the Penny love. If you can stash him on the PS, cool. If not, he's JAG.

Rudy ford and Elijah Penny, both for STs

Cap Capi did all he could.

Wile as our punter

I don't think anyone else won a roster spot tonight at the bottom. Ross and Dobson may have lost any opportunity they had. Can't speak for linemen though.

Penny does have a serious lack of explosiveness. I've been a fan but it showed even more so tonight. It will be interesting to see what happens. He played a lot tonight so this may be a bad sign for him.

Dobson: gone
Ross: just dont trust him to make the catch.
Penny: unless there is ST play I'm not seeing, I just don't see an NFL RB

Scooby: painfully slow

Tough to evaluate the other WRs when Trevor Knight was at QB they didn't let him throw much, and for good reason.

Exactly, Stephan Taylor was my least favorite Cardinal, and Penny will absolutely take his place if he gets a spot on the roster. I cannot understand what BA sees in these crappy running backs.

BA said he thought "Eli" (Penny) played very well...he said he envisioned him in Stepfan Taylor's STs, short yardage RB role and that Penny "could be a heckuva FB if we need him there."

Other players BA praised: Gabbert, Hubert ("always open deep no one hits him"), Capi ("he's been good against the guys he's played against"), Ford ("he made a number of good tackles from the FS position:)...actually BA called him Rudy Johnson (honest mistake with all the Johnsons and Williamses. BA said after that he really didn't think anyone stood out. He said a number of players "got exposed" instead of "getting exposure.'

Wile did not do enough. We will be trading for Andy Lee.

Capi should make the roster, Ross and Dobson should not.

I thought Penny's conversion of the third down on the first drive was excellent. He was met in the hole immediately and managed to lower his shoulder and spin out of the tackle for the first down. i was surprised too how quickly he scooted upfield on the shotgun draw plays.

Here's a player who does not back down from contact.

Late in the game Penny was at 17/77/4.5.

I didn't expect to see much. This was the team's 5th pre-season game and they pretty much mailed this one in but if these were guys trying to impress other teams, they did a lousy job of it.

Dear Mom,

Hi it's me and no I don't need to borrow any money and hey just want to tell you about this football player that might make a team but he sucks. Also tell dad that I still leave the lights on.

Love,

I get what everyone is saying but after watching Andre Ellington

I get what you're saying but has everyone on this board forgot watching Andre Ellington the last two years falling down before he even came close to being hit? I certainly haven't. I also remember him wiffing on a few blocks while supposedly being there to protect the quarterback. And I've never seen him on special teams. AE has some talent but he shies away from contact and in all reality with the talent he has he should have been returning punts instead of using PP when we didn't have anyone else. With me AE has used up any goodwill he had from three seasons ago.
