Thrilled with the extensions to BB, JC and Fro. It's typical Cardinals luck that some of our best players and leaders are at "non impact " positions.
Thing is JC makes the O go.
BB has made himself an impact player, sans Picks and PD.
Fro struggles at times with pass pro but may be the best pulling OC in the NFL and is never out hustled by anyone else.
Now let's get a top notch pass rusher and run stopper on the Dline and the D will be top ten in the NFL.

Please. They are not cutting Thompson to create cap space. As if we are going to be such huge spenders in free agency we will need a paltry few million to sign draft picks.
They will be in an awkward position if they want Rabbit to start over Thompson. Thompson will not want to play backup, and his salary would make no sense as a backup. Cutting Thompson so that he can catch on as a starter with another team might be the respectful thing to do and benefit both sides.

Had Rabbit not shown so much promise, I agree it would make no sense for the Cardinals to cut Thompson. But you'd hate for Rabbit's development to be stunted by being stuck behind Thompson for another year, while out-performing him when he gets his chances.

They might cut Thompson. Who knows? But it won't be because of cap savings. That was my point.

In this situation, you're one hammy twinge away from Andrew Chachare starting at safety. These guys are professionals; let Thompson fight to keep his job.

I’d argue center is a really important position, especially in our run scheme, and he’s been the best one in my 20+ years of watching cards.

The half healthy season we saw from Rodney Hudson was the best C play we had in my 25+ years as a fan.

Froholdt is above average without being great. But you HAVE to love his style of play.

Good move by Cards securing their heart/souls of the team. The draft next year will be crucial with the need to retain leadership. They do have some picks..

My feeling too. I'm glad we resigned him as he's playing well but it's a huge overspend for me.

$18m per for Kyzir White+ level tackling and bottom 3rd ball skills is a huge misallocation of resources.
I think "huge" is gratuitously hyperbolic. You look for leadership in players. Guys who make other guys better, be it through their play or their leadership. To argue that Baker doesn't make this entire team better, let alone just the D is examining only the hard stats, and not the myriad nuances necessary to be a bonafide star in the league.

To let a guy like Budda go, would be a wild misuse of resources IMHO.

Geno Stone has 10 interception in his last 25 games and is paid $7m per.
Who???? The guy is 25, been on 4 teams in as many years and yes, he having a nice season. Lets see how much that guy is overpaid at this next signing for being the worst rated run defending safety in the league. The dude blows nearly one in 5 tackles he attempts. And I found this on Wikipedia.

Geno Stone sir, is no Budda Baker

surprised to see all the negativity here. It’s a 3 year extension- this is fantastic. Perfectly able to cut bait and run in a year or two if we want without much of a penalty. I was worried we would be signing him to some ridiculous extension- this is upper end pay for a safety who is playing at the upper end of his position in the nfl.

Signing leaders while the young guys are developing is a big morale boost for them.

It lets them know if they play lights out they will be rewarded by an organization that appreciates them.

Signing Budda and JC were culture building moves.

Glad to see it.

Agree and that works good as long as the future production of the player lines up reasonably well with the term and money of the contract too.

BB and JC were both pretty challenging balances in this regard, but I think MO did fine.

He seems to be fading a little down the stretch. I wonder how much of that is Brown next to him. Brown started strong, but seems to be getting beat more now. I could be wrong since that is based on what I remember seeing.

I wouldn't exactly call it a sunk cost. I'm sure we if we all were GMs, we would be constructing the team differently.

He's clearly our best player, but playing at a non-premium position. RB wasn't a premium position, but is becoming one again.

IMO you should do what you can to keep any all pro players you have. (yes, I admit this is a different tune than what I was saying about a year ago.)
