Anything he has done in the past can easily be pushed to the side by NFL teams.

Cam Newtons status as a draft pick will solely be tied to how he interviews, especially when teams throw on tape to ask him questions what he see's on O and what he see's on D. What will he do when the teams pull out the marker for the white board with X's and O's on it. When it is just him and 5 coaches and scouts with the door locked behind him will be this kids proving ground leading up to the draft.

As far as being eliminated? Sure. it counted to us.

As far as making Reggie Bush a great or even good player? Not in the least.

37 Touchdowns in 5 years including 4 in the post season with 2 of those covering over 80 yards, not too bad. I'd take him on the Cards in a heartbeat if we didn't already have LSH.

Dude had 2 punt returns for TDs in one game against the Viks in 2008. So he has run crazy against other teams.

But you are correct that no performance against a Cardinal Defense should be considered any big deal. Just ask any of several backup RBs or TEs around the NFL.

Oh i would take him on the team but strictly as a ST's return man dynamo. I wouldnt want him as a RB.

i was referring to the power he showed against the Cards. All in all, I think it was probably worth the pick for the Saints.

Wow, people are sure willing to go far out on a limb to hate on a guy. Why not just say that you don't like his skills?

Hating on a player because his dad came to his last college game? If this were Andrew Luck, that last play would be about his desire to win or whatever.

Amen! You are right about what the fans would say if it was Andrew Luck in the same situation. It would be about his passion to win, his leadership, his off the charts competitiveness. But when it's Cam Newton, it's him being a coaches headache.

Cam is not perfect but neither is Andrew Luck.

Excellent points Joe. The hatred against Newton is just crazy and the obsession over Andrew Luck who by the way is also a one year wonder is equally crazy.

I dont really care what the fans say, my point is about character and risk. If the same set of circumstances surrounded Andrew Luck I would feel the exact same way. If you are going to invest tens of millions into a player you want to mitigate the risk so all the risks Cam poses in terms of mechanics are compounded by the other mounting factors.

If Chizik believes Cam is going to be difficult to coach at the NFL level and he really was pissed about him overriding his calls then he will probably share that with his closest NFL friends if asked and that will spread even if it isn't his intention to throw Cam under the bus. He might face a bit of a penalty in his draft position or maybe he wont. Tebow received a premium for his character that pushed him into R1 of the draft when his skills didn't necessarily warrant it. Cam could experience the opposite. Maybe not out of R1 but maybe out of the top 5. Time will tell.

Tim Tebow didn't get a boost in the draft because he's Virgin Air. He got a boost in the draft because of his alleged leadership abilities ON THE FIELD.

Seems to me Cam Newton is an above-average on-field leader, and all the media reports agree with me. Thankfully, you don't draft Cam Newton's father, and I don't really care how many games he attends.

This guy has big red flags all over the place including skills... we will be insane to even consider him for #5 pick.

No it wouldnt. It was a stupid, selfish play regardless of who's behind center.

But since Cam Newton has a track record of poor decision making and cockiness, it only adds fuel to the fire. When teams begin to inquire about these red flags, whether it be during one on one interviews and Coach Chizik (sp), it may reflect that much lower on him

Same thing people said about Darnell Dockett...

Team has to roll the dice now and then and I think Newton is worth the "risk."

If Cards play wanna' play with the big boys they have to take the chance...

Great athletes do not always make great NFL QBs. He needs more experience. He only started for one full season and there are glaring holes on his game despite his athletic prowess. Inability to make progressive reads, questionable accuracy, bad footwork and throwing off his back foot are just a few things that need work.

I don't know enough about this kid's maturity to make any intelligent statements. As others have said, a lot of his stock will rest on his interviewing abilities.

I don't want him at any pick in the 1st round. Way too much bust potential for my taste.

Dockett was a 3rd round pick, not a 1st round #5 overall. Big difference in the risk / reward .

Why are people being called haters for pointing out all the red flags with Newton? The guy, and his dad, has been a dirtbag with regards to the rules from day 1. How do you think he's likley to react when he gets millions of dollars? His spast decision making by the entire family shows lack of character. You have some wondering what if this was Andrew Luck? Well, it's not Andrew Luck. He hasn't been accused of academic fraud, been kicked out of school, charged with theft, had his father take money, and had the NCAA looking into his elgibility. He's at an academic institution in Stanford working on an architectural engineering degree. I'll bet 50% of Auburn students, 95% of the football players, can't spell architectural.
You know it's pretty bad when they ask a kid's dad to stay away from the heisman ceremony and the Nat'l championship game. That right there should be as big a red flag as anything. Those are two of the rarest moments in a football player's life and they tell your dad to stay away, c'mon. Look at last year's NC game and Texas had Colt McCoy's dad walking into the locker room with them and let him decide that it would be better for Colt to save his draft status rather than face Bama's defense in the 2nd half.

There are so many pro athletes that invalidate your statement.

Cards need to sign McNabb and draft Newton.
