Keim and Arians said they were very impressed with him at draft time. He is obviously has the size. His mobility is adequate. He is very smart and his mechanics are excellent. The knock on him is his arm, but there are many who say his arm is more than adequate.

Maybe Palmer can rub off on him & show him how to rehab his shoulder or send him to the trainer that put his shoulder rehab regimen in place to improve his arm strength.

Barkley should be riding pine all year long anyways so he might as well bust his butt to get into the best shape of his life.

Barkley should be glued to Palmer learning everything he possible can. During the telecast there was one shot of Palmer on the sidelines. Stanton was next to him. No Barkley in the vicinity. Since I wasn't at the game I have no idea if that was typical or not. I hope not.

Were I in charge of these things I'd hire Kurt as a coach and have him working with Barkley.

Why do people just assume Kurt would make a good coach? He helped coach Desert Mountain to zero wins last year.

Generally when not talking to coaches, reviewing play or any other reason, the QB's will hang out together when the D is on the field. There are dozens of reason why he may not have been there at that instance. Don't read anything into it.

I'm pretty sure this is his first year coaching for DM. (Not positive on that.) They are 2-1 this year. His son, BTW, is ranked in the top 100 high school football players in Arizona. I believe he's somewhere in the top 30. I'd bet Kurt has coached him.

Hopefully he was next to Tom Moore. Paying careful attention to every word he said.

I want to win. And I want Barkley to do VERY well. :)

He is under no pressure to start.

He is under no pressure to back up.

His pressure is to show BA and Moore, in the next 5 weeks that he deserves a chance to learn for a couple years. If he shows the ability to pick up the physical and mental tools to be a good QB, he'll still be here in 6 weeks. If not, then he'll be gone. Either way, we invested nothing or next to nothing. Kind of like the flyer we took on Palmer.

No lose situation for us. I trust BA and Moore to make that call. I'm willing to cheer for Palmer and ignore Barkley for the next month while we wait and see if step 1 even happens.

Barkley is here for a shot at being a younger, cheaper replacement for Stanton next year. The end.
I think so too. He may become a reliable backup but that's about all I can see. But, who knows. Whoever thought Tyrod Taylor would ever start, much less win, a game in the NFL?

He was inactive so he may not have been on the sidelines.

Who knows how Barkley will do. Look at Russell Wilson. Did anyone think he would do anything until he did it. Barkley is the guy I wanted us to take in the fourth round. Half of a successful QB is smarts and he is supposed to be a very smart guy. I would compare him to Teddy Bridgewater. Average arm and size but very smart and accurate.

Maybe. Would take a lot of luck and taking advantage of opportunity. If you are betting? Probably not.

Had I known that I wouldn't have been yelling, "Where the heck is Barkley?" at the TV.

Of course I spend 95% of the game yelling at the TV, so I don't think it would have made much of a difference.

He was there. He was throwing the ball back to the WR by Palmer and/or Stanton whenever they warmed up.

He was inactive so he may not have been on the sidelines.

Third string QB is always inactive, but always dressed. If your first and second string QBs are injured they become active for the game. Here is the rule;

Teams will be permitted an Active List of 45 players and an Inactive List of eight players for each regular-season and postseason game. Provided, that if a club has two quarterbacks on its 45-player Active List, a third quarterback from its Inactive List is permitted to dress for the game, but if he enters the game during the first three quarters, the other two quarterbacks are thereafter prohibited from playing.[3]
