Josh played a great 2.5 quarters of football. Really great stuff from him!

If he can play like that all the time, we're in business.

Exactly. Man, I was ready (as were a lot of people) for Navarre there for a while. McCown suuuuuucked really badly. And then it stopped. And then he started playing a little better. And then, in the 2nd half, he became a damn fine NFL QB. Yeah, he had a few hiccups, but man, did he turn it on. Kudos to Josh, and here's to hoping he can do it again!

(because we'll need it!)

Since I was the orwizzinator of "McClown" I want to apologize to Josh and thank him for this great "coming of age" win for us this year!! Now we are untracked; If we can hold on to this momentum off3ensively and if our defense gets healthy, we will continue to play more effectively. I missed the game because of work, but on sportscenter it sounds like a great victory for us!! Of course the fact we won made it a great victory for us!!!

Not that Shipp's fumble was his fault but he had 2 guys wide open for TD's that he didn't see on that drive and if he finds either one of them, we never get to Shipp fumbling.

This is unreal, 2 TD's by the worst defense in the NFL, and the first quarter isn't even over yet.

Green might want to check with ESPN at the half if he can get his old job back after this debacle.

Oh well, fact is we can still win the game as we all saw we have WR's running WIDE open all over the field.

Hey Russ I bet you are eating this thread today right after the game yesterday. Your appology to this board would be greatly appreciated by some of us board members. You should hear what Josh ahs been saying righ after the game, and what he is saying today. So far all the right things, not being controversial; say that he is keeping this team ready for Kurt's return. the Kid has really shown us all something this past week. Maturity mostly.

By the way No appology is really needed, after the fumbles, we all felt that way. But Josh's great play and the Defenses efforts have given us fan's some hope for the rest of the season.

Why would I apologize at the time that was written the score was 14-0 and Josh had already had 3 guys wide open that he didn't see and both Maguire and Theismann were pointing it out to everyone watching. If you read the first post on this thread I said we can still win this game because there are guys wide open on almost every play, and there were, all night. Once Josh started seeing them the offense moved the ball at will.

The point of this thread is not can Josh have a big day against SF, the point is, can JOsh be the QB of the future for the Arizona Cards? Did anything he did last night change anybody's opinion on that? I'd be quite surprised if anybody who felt before last night the answer was no is now thinking yes Josh is the guy. In fact out of curiosity, I'll take a poll.

That's the statement that scares me. Everybody is hyped up again like they were at the begginning of the season and some are even saying 'Play off hunt". We beat a Pop Warner team yesterday. If we get ripped next week, the board will be full of doom and gloom once again.
Drink all the kool-aid ya want but the fact is, we HAVE to beat the Panthers to even be considered improved. If Josh smokes 'em next week, then I'm all for a QB change. And with that being said, I will be cheering him and the whole team on.

I hate to rain on everyone here, but McCown had this great game against the worst defense in the league, and on top of that they were missing their top DBs. He was still completeing misreading the plays and not seeing wide open recievers until Warner told him how to read the defense properly.

AND on top of that, The 49er offense was so pathetic that same horrible defense was on the field way too much, at 7000 feet higher than they would normally play. Look at the first downs - 8 for SF the entire game. Time of possesion is ridiculously lopsided, their defense was made to play 38 minutes at that altitude, and they are pathetic at sea level!

Yes McCown made some great plays in the second half, and he did a wonderful job of avoiding some of those rushes and still making good throws for completions. His mobility is a saving grace behind our offensive line. I think he gives us a better chance than Warner does to win until our line play improves.

However, I'm not going to turn around on my opinion of McCown and his ability to be the number one guy until he shows the same level of play and ability to read the secondary during the action against Carolina's defense next week. He turned his game around after a bad first quarter, yes. He needs to continue at the same level or better for several weeks before we can annoint him as a truly improved player.

Even though this is a long enough thread for the bash Josh folks, here is my take. Aztec stadium is a scary place to play. Yesterday over 100K yelling and screaming. Josh is thinking get me throug this thing and play within myself. He gets hit when the game starts 0-7 next Shipp fumbles after a long drive and wham 0-14. Another lessor man with NO talent might have thrown it up in the air Josh did not, he played his heart out.

Josh will never be Peyton Manning, but it was a pleasure to watch and listen to him work yesterday. He ran when he had to with no fear. He screamed at his teammates to keep everyone in the game. he showed exceptional leadership. I don't know where this all takes us but, For this past Sunday Josh was the greatest QB in town.

The announcers

were all singing McCown's praises also. Pocket presence, movement, making soemthing out of nothing, making people miss, etc. Ithink I even heard an "I Like what I see in this kid" line once or twice.
No mention of that.

Aj

your saying they DIDN"T talk well about MCCown at all last night? I read the thread, but I'm not sure what your point of view is. Because they did, a number of times.
Anyone tape it?

Nope, in post #3 of that thread (made in the first half) I said Theismann was criticizing him, then praising him and then was back to criticizing him. In the fourth quarter, they all talked well of him.

If guys play well they get their just due. ( Even swd praised McCown today.) These players are big boys getting a lot of money. They don't need you to stick up for them or get upset when they are criticized. Maybe that's your personality, but you might enjoy it more if you relaxed and let the play on the field speak for itself. At least that's the lesson I learned from the Wadsworth and Plummer days.

The thing that gets me about this thread is that if that had been Warner at QB, everyone would be talking play-offs.

For crying out loud. Give the kid his due and quit prefacing any kudos. He did exactly like I said the Cards had to do. They faced adversity, laughed at it and went out and took the game. The offense had a lot more fire in it with Josh in there. He wanted that win and he got it. The fact that the offense didn't give up made the defense play that much harder. This was a total team win, but I really think the spark came from one Josh McCown.

What I learned from those days is that Josh is a dead-man-walking if Russ has put him in the "not our QB of the future" category. :D

Where is K-9 to give us adjective after adjective proving that Rattay is better than Warner, and, obviously - McCown? :D

Not this year Collins is playing quite well. they really like Walter but he's the #3 QB right now.

I think he'll get a shot in the future they really do like the kid.

I know that he really is an Al Davis type QB. Big Arm and really smart. Thank you.

Sorry AJ

I've had a few talks with McCown and really like the guy. It'd be like listening to people bash your friend all the time , then he doews som, ething righteous and they still bash him. It is part of my personality. Loyal to a fault.
So now you know.
I pull BIG for Wakefield, Harris, KVB, Plummer, BIG-all the guys I've been around .
As for the games, I enjoy nothing more than watching them play. It's one of the few luxuries i allow myself, season tickets!
