Really? He said himself that he stands up the entire time our defense is on the field. Am I the only one here that would hate to sit behind DDawg? Personally, I hate it when people stand up non-stop. I'm all for supporting your team and getting to your feet at crucial moments but there are other people in the stadium. If you and all your friends are standing, the short people behind you just paid good money to check out your butts.

Steve
I agree, its disrespectful to stand all the time. When a big play happens everyone stands.

I yell and cheer when on D, but you can do that sitting down.

I bring my wife and 3 boys to the games. We had an eagle fan who would now sit down and my wife and kids couldnt see most of the game.

So if you ask me, yes you need to sit down unless there is a big play.

just out of curiousity, what percentage of Eagle fans were there? Sounded like a lot on TV.

It didn't seem as bad as it's been in the past... They were louder than their actual attendance showed, in my opinion. Maybe 20-30%.

I agree. Then there's old guys like me who just can't stand up for the entire game thanks to years of hard wear and tear from games at SDS and the Money Pit at UT Austin.

I never have understood the thinking that standing up all the time somehow makes you a better fan. To me it just makes you inconsiderate.

Now not making any noise or complaining about people around you making noise when the Cards are on Defense should get you kicked out of the stadium and banned for life.

Really. If he was standing during all the offensive plays I'd call that excessive. But standing and screaming and stomping and beating the seat backs in front of you (because those guys are standing too) is what defense is all about. When the offense takes a seat, the fans get on their feet.

Maybe it matters what section you are in? But in the end zone, the players hear you. Visibly, you can see they hear you. We get stupid loud and standing is basically the norm.

Upstairs, maybe not so much, but I'm completely used to it.

When the people in front of you are standing, don't check out their butts...stand up and yell yours off. :D

The more I've thought about it, the more I agree that this is probably a realistic expectation, however:

1. The people behind you should ask you nicely to not stand the entire time first -- it doesn't sound like this was the case based on DD's account. If the people behind you are going to be jerks about it, why sit down just to placate them?

2. Stadium security should definitely give you a warning first before kicking you out for "excessive standing" -- not sure if this happened based on DD's account.

I disagree with number 1 but wholeheartedly agree with your 2nd point. The only reason I'd pass on your first point is there are just too many crazy people in the world and more than a few of them show up at football games. No reason to tempt fate.

what reason could there be for standing up during commercials and stoppages in play? Take a break. :)

You should be on your feet and screaming the entire time the team is on defense. If the crowd maintained the intensity we have in the final 7 minutes of the 4th quarter every single game, we'd be the loudest and hardest stadium to win in.

In my opinion, you come to the game to support the team and influence the outcome. You become part of the game. If you're just showing up just to sit and watch, you'd honestly probably have a better time watching at home.

(I know that was kind of harsh - I'm not calling out your fandom at all. It's just a different approach for different people. But if it were up to me, we'd never, ever let up.)

I love to WATCH the game. I stopped going to sporting events because standing became more and more the thing to do. When you're on crutches or in a wheelchair it really sucks to have everybody in front of you standing. You feel like the blind lookout from Men In tights - well, I guess no one is scoring.

There are a lot of people that love to watch the game that are not physically capable of standing the entire game. I'm not sure I agree with you that the sign of being a true fan is just to say to Hell with those people, if they aren't tall enough to see over me they don't deserve to come to the game.:)

LOL. Yes...standing for the actual plays.

However, I do want to make my frustration known with those that do yell, but DON'T START yelling until the opponent breaks the huddle and comes to the line. As soon as they huddle up, let the noise rip. Make it hard to hear...make it loud. You never know when someone might mishear a playcall and eff up. Noise is the only weapon we fans have, so we have to bring it.

I always yell when they are in the huddle. My neighbors must think I am a dope.

Well of COURSE, if that is the case. I haven't really noticed much of that in my immediate vicinity, but if you're lucky enough to have that type of scenery, well :notworthy:

Especially when we play the Lions -- apparently, their center hears playcalls that don't exist. :D

I'll give you that. People with medical/endurance issues shouldn't be subjected to that. I don't know a lot about the lower level, but up where I sit, there's designated handicap areas where anyone who can't stand still has a great view of the game. If someone can't stand, it may best serve them to check out one of those locations. It would be unfortunate if the other levels don't have it.

I do my best to at least lean down to give shorter fans the ability to see while I'm up during big drives. I'll try to sit if we're in a very non-essential situation and yell from my seat. But the beginning of the game should be full of people standing and screaming and bashing their seats, along with every third down, any other long yardage down, and crucial/4th quarter play.

When on offense, or in a commercial break, or during a time-out, everyone should sit.

What does standing up do for you? Seriously. Can you yell louder? I just don't get it.

AZCards21 and I made so much noise in the club level the mousy couple that had seats next to us moved the next season but I can't tell any difference in how loud I yell standing or sitting. But again at my age, especially after years on the East side at SDS, I just can't stand that long especially yelling as loud as I can. I have to rest to reduce the chance of having a stroke.

Now you do have to take into consideration that I am a 3rd generation Longhorn Alum and the Aggies stand the whole game every game so that may have something to do with it. :p

Questions: Do you guys into standing at UPS stand up while you're watching the away games on TV at home? Do you stand up if you are at a sports bar? How many of you are into pacing? How many have to leave the room on occasion because you just can't stand to watch anymore? How many get so intense no one in your family will watch the games with you?

How many of you get so wasted at home you don't remember the 2nd half of any Cards away game? :p

I'll start pacing during certain parts of the game at home, and if I'm watching at a bar with Cards fans, I'll probably be standing and jumping around with a bunch of tension. I rarely leave the room during the game, but I have switched the channel to something else, so it counts.

I watch the games with my parents most of the time, of all people, and my mom has started going into another room or leaving the home. She can't handle either of us during Cardinals games, and my dad still proclaims he's a Redskins fan.

I haven't forgotten the 2nd half of a Cards game in a year or two, but I'll admit, it's happened. :p

Technically, I believe one can yell (sing) louder standing because of the straighter posture and its effect on the diaphragm, but that's beside the point, and not all that much of a difference. I negate that bonus, anyway.

I lean forward, extending closer to the field. I also beat the living daylights out of the seats in front of me (because their owners are also standing). I bang, scream, yell, dent empty beer bottles (those new metal cans are hella loud!) and am a whirlwhind of activity. Now, I can't do that sitting down. I also bounce and get the adrenaline up so I can get even more stupid. I believe the loudest sound you can make at the game is taking one of those empty metal beer bottles and rapidly banging it back and forth between the seat bottom and the seatback of the chair in front of you. There is about 10-12 inches of space, and you can make a loud drum noise doing it.

It's very embarassing. My daughter has said so. But then again, they are doing basically some of the same things (other than banging beer bottles, that's dad-stuff) just at a more relaxed rate.

But again, I think a lot of that has to do that we are sitting close to the field in the endzone, where you can visibly see players hear you. So that kicks it up to 11 anyway. Back when we had some extra seats up in the 400s, we sat there for a few games and it wasn't remotely as wild as it is down there. I didn't sit up there very many times...I like the raucous, rowdy endzone atmosphere.

Good questions!

Questions: Do you guys into standing at UPS stand up while you're watching the away games on TV at home?

No, I try to relax. I get into the atmosphere and the emotion of the game. TV just doesn't do that for me.

Do you stand up if you are at a sports bar?

No. Unless it is SRO in there already. I prefer to watch at home over a sports bar.

How many of you are into pacing?

Not since the advent of the DVR. Before that, incessant. Commercials were basically walking around time. Now it is just zip-boom, back to the action.

At the Super Bowl, I walked the entire halftime because I was so on edge. Just walked around again and again. I didn't care to see Springsteen. After that horrific return, I wanted it to go away and start the second half. Which is why I hate Grimm so much for watching the halftime show when a lowly fan like me couldn't focus on anything but the next play.

How many have to leave the room on occasion because you just can't stand to watch anymore?

I will pause the game and go take a breather, yes. Sometimes it is too intense, sometimes too frustrating.

How many get so intense no one in your family will watch the games with you?

Only at the very end of a nailbiter. When I'm biting my nails...literally.

How many of you get so wasted at home you don't remember the 2nd half of any Cards away game? :p

I wish sometimes, but no. The scars are still there. I don't forget losses very easily.

Our group stands almost the whole game, but we're in row 40 so it does not matter. When we switched to UoPS we took row 40 for that reason, we had last row @ SDS and liked being able to stand whenever you wanted. Of course @ SDS for 95% of the games it didnt matter what row you were in, you could stand and not block anyone or the could slide a seat or 3 over if needed. At home I stand and pace for a large portion of the game, I leave the room at commercials to break the tension. During the 2nd half of the NE game I was watching in the bedroom and I started cleaning the bathroom between plays and during TO, my wife loved that. My 18 month old little girl got to witness her first Cards meltdown when Williams fumbled, she was in watching w/ me and my son, she ran over to him and hugged him. I havnt watched a Cards game @ a sports bar in a long time, not sure I could. The 2008 playoff game vs Car, I had the gameday crew over to watch the game and about 20 mins into it we were all standing and stood the whole night. If I hadnt gone to the Super Bowl, I dont think I would've been able to watch it with anyone, not even the game day crew.

This, this, this.

My buddies had a two-day panic attack about how intense I'd be while we threw our annual Super Bowl party, especially since one of my best friends is a hardcore Steelers fan.

LOL that's exactly what I do. Don't you love the DVR technology?

Though I will admit that since experiencing the NFC Title win over Philly live I haven't been as intense about Cardinals football as I was before. I think that might take another year or two to wear off.

By the way you keeping that left foot on the ground?

DVR is quite possibly my absolute favorite entertainment technology. It is absolutely life-changing.

I am keeping the foot down. Seriously. I still have to remind myself to do it though.

You can have my TIVO remote when you pry it from my cold, dead hands. I DVR every game and if it gets too tense, I take a break. If it's mildly stressful, I'll just head to the head. If it's really stressful, I'll go swim for a couple of hours. And then, I'll put it on the NFL channel and I'll peak out of one eye until I see the score. Win or lose, after seeing the score, I'm okay to go back and watch the conclusion.
