Or Hines Ward being Cut by Pitt, Eagles not making an effort to re-sign Brian Dawkins, the list is long. So to say it would be a step backwards, or same old cheap Cards is straight up nonsensical.

To be fair, those franchises also had really remarkable, generational success that lead fans to believe that the Franchise can outlast any individual player, and those teams (kinda) managed to be successful after those guys.

This franchise gives us no reason to believe that we should be more loyal and trusting of the front office than of the guys wearing the uniform. If Adrian Wilson makes it to the 2013 roster, he'll have been here for four Cardinals head coaches.

I also think that Adrian Wilson is a bigger name for die-hard Cards fans than it is for the casual Cards fan. People here couldn't wait to run him out of town six or seven years ago.

A few teams let some real OGs go already, with a new coaching squad and space to worry about...we might see some cats go that I call real Cradinals, stuff happens. I hope AW is back this year, pretty glad Gay is gone.

Man I'm going to be crushed if AW is released. Even as Fitz was rising in fame A-Dub has been my favorite player. Turning down big contracts like Dallas to "Stay and build something in Arizona". Adrian Wilson will go down as one of the greatest Cardinals ever. I hope it's on his terms but understand its a business. Next couple weeks could be some sad days. :(

Agreed. Adub's been through more Cardinal football--and the adversity that brings--than anyone. If he doesn't play for us, he'll retire. My hope is that BA/Bowles can find a way to play to his strengths and he can make one last run. Having PP back there and a healthy Toler increase that possibility because we won't play 2 deep often.

(Jurecki had a column last year during training camp, when our QBs were getting destroyed, and when practice ended--it had been a horrific practice--he wrote that as everyone else filed inside that Wilson and Fitz met at midfield and talked dejectedly for 15 or 20 minutes. I have that mental image in my mind. These guys deserve a ring. We all deserve a ring)

I love AW, but he's far from being the franchise player you assert him to be; and the Ray Lewis comparison is a bit ridiculous. He's talented and has been a good person to have around, but he is also getting long in the tooth, watching his skills diminish (particularly in coverage), and has an unfriendly cap number that, IMO, is not commensurate with his on-field production.

Sometimes, to get better as a team, you have to make difficult decisions and take emotion out of the process. The decision to keep him around is one of those.

You cheer for that? I aint down with you, you got no respect for AW. Kick rocks. You must be in your early 20's or something.

Considering AW is my favorite player.. I'd hate seeing him leave.

agreed. the Reed:Ravens Wilson:Cardinals is pretty much spot on. If anyone's our Ray Lewis it's Fitz. Not AW.

AW was our motivator on D. He stuck it out when we sucked, passing on better offers from different teams because he wanted to win here. Fitz is great, and one hell of a leader now, but that wasn't always so. He was a quiet producer for a while. AW wore his heart on his sleeve much like RL. He bleeds red just as loyally as Lewis bled purple

Extending Rhodes sounds easier than it could be. You're going to have to pay him $7M this season to get him to sign, and then commit to him for an additional 3 years at--say--$4M per year. You can structure it to fit, but it's going to be a challenge in a very short time frame.
No way would I pay Rhodes 7mill this year, or any year. I don't think he'll be even in the top 5 free agent safeties on the market.

If these guys all are on the market, they'll likely be in more demand than Rhodes:
Patrick Chung
Louis Delmas
William Moore
Dashon Goldson
Chris Clemons
even Laron Landry and Kenny Phillips may draw more interest.

I continue to be astounded on how much Cardinal fans seem to undervalue Rhodes...and I dig your perceptions on the Cards Cbus, but I think Rhodes is worth more to us now than ever before

Well the Cards will probably have to make more moves cap wise, but we're not entirely strapped.

We got the carryover funds (unless we declined them)
We got the penalty funds from Redskins/Cowboys
We got the savings from the current round of cuts
We got the rise of the cap itself

I don't think it is necessary to cut Adub. I do see a restructure possible. I do see a cut and re-sign possible. Though old veterans and new regimes are generally a time to see such moves made. He can be a liability in pass coverage, but he was better or hidden better last season and we did stellar in pass coverage against many of the best passing teams. So on that front I don't see a real necessity to get rid of him.

We still have Kolb and Doucet as potential cuts as well besides Wilson. Wells IS an option, but it wouldn't save much as his rookie deal was that of a low 1st round pick and I believe is under 2 million.

I think there's many fluid parts that will push the front office one way or the other. I think if the plan is to draft a QB and get Stanton, then Kolb is gone. If that's the case, I see Wilson as staying even if we manage to re-sign Rashad Johnson. If anything I can see two of the four cut, who being dependent on who we can sign in FA and draft. But it can obviously go higher if we find availability of opportunity that Keim/Arians desire to exercise.

I do agree the next couple of months will be interesting and some decisions might be hard on fans of people like ADub who was the most authoritative figure on the defense and source of positive influence in keeping them on track. He really bled Cardinal red, and it will be a sad day when he's gone. A feeling not equaled since Aneas Williams left.

DD needs to go He's what 33- He cost Horton the HC job by revolting against Horton's call on the field, spitting in Rhodes face and forcing Fitz to do damage control rather than concentrate on football. DD is not only replaceable- but upgradeable at a lot less cost-

Mike Adams was a Whiz pet He never plays for another team beyond ST. - I hope Toler will re-sign, Colledge and Snyder are over paid and replaceable with last years rookies! I still haven't got a grip on BA's priority skillsets per position , it was close to what Whiz wanted - but more positional integrity and less head case- I hope!

yea

after paying Rolle as a CB and developing him at Safety- for a SB winning team to reap the benefits, but they made him the highest paid safety.

CBus is still ticked off because let Antrell (what me cover?) Rolle leave.

Rhodes is solid at a position where not many are solid. I'm all for a two year extension.

CBus is still ticked off because let Antrell (what me cover?) Rolle leave.

I don't think I undervalue him. I'd be okay with him signing an extension. He's not worth 7mill/year this year, or any year. 7 mill would make him one of the highest paid safeties in the league and I don't see him in that light.

As for the Rolle thing, I've praised Rhodes plenty over the last 2 years. I still think Rolle was/is a better player but that doesn't influence my thinking on Rhodes maing 7 mill year.

I am still ticked they let Dansby go though :D.

Surprising since the Steelers no longer have Horton to coach the "Arizona" out of him.

Completely agree.

I would take that $7M and go after a solid OT, OG or Pass Rusher instead. I like Rhodes but he isn't nearly worth $7M.

That's all well and good, but then you're going to have to go out and find a solid-or-better safety to go with that OT, OG, or Pass Rusher. If you spend $3M on a safety who's a downgrade on Rhodes, are you really better with an average guard or below-average OT or OLB for $4M?

You're not going to get a starting-quality offensive tackle or rush linebacker for $4M, and you're likely not going to get a Pro-Bowl-Caliber safety for $3M.
