That's all well and good, but then you're going to have to go out and find a solid-or-better safety to go with that OT, OG, or Pass Rusher. If you spend $3M on a safety who's a downgrade on Rhodes, are you really better with an average guard or below-average OT or OLB for $4M?

You're not going to get a starting-quality offensive tackle or rush linebacker for $4M, and you're likely not going to get a Pro-Bowl-Caliber safety for $3M.

IMO Safeties are a dime a dozen. I'd just as soon throw a cheap vet or a 3rd round rookie back there and spend money on a position that is harder to fill.

In fairness to that statement, all of those people have been fired.

Well of course. The Cards don't keep Defensive Coordinators any longer than they do free agent Corners. Unless of course their family owns land near the new stadium.

Ok raise your hand if you remember Ronnie Jones or Joe Pascale.

The starties Safeties in the Super Bowl were Dashon Goldson (playing under the Franchise tag) and Ed Reed (heading for the Hall of Fame).

Food for thought.

Yeah but they also has stud pass rushers up front putting pressure on the QB.

Tell me what stud pass rushers are available in free agency, and which can be had for $5M in 2013. These two categories do not have to be mutually exclusive.

And both teams in the Super Bowl had average or slightly-above average cornerbacks, so let's see if we can trade Patrick Peterson and our #2 draft pick for Nick Foles.

But, but, our starting safety in the 2008 Super Bowl was easily replaced with draft picks we didn't need. And many here claim the guy was a bum anyway. Just like the LB we lost and the 2 WRs and the RG and both TEs and... oh yeah we had a one man team back then. Nevermind.

But I wonder why Peyton Manning hasn't won 8 Super Bowls if that's all you need.

I never said it had to be a "stud" pass rusher. I also said it could be an Offensive lineman or other position that is harder to fill.

Pass Rushers I would consider that could easily be signed and cost less than $5M against the cap this year:

Connor Barwin, Texans (Young with potential)

Shaun Phillips, Chargers (older but has a couple of years left)

Victor Butler, Cowboys (Young with potential, low cost, higher risk)

Antwan Barnes, Chargers (Can he return to pre-injury form from 2011? Lower Cost)

In answer to your first question - John Abraham, Dwight Freeney

In answer to your second question - no one (because pass rushers are a hot commodity).
