Some game thoughts from me...

Palmer and Stanton looked significantly better than anythign we have had at QB in a while.

Taylor looked serviceable, but showed nothing dynamic. Similar to Vick Balalrd last year with the Colts.

WRs looked fine.

TEs looked terrible.

OL looked ok. Good pass blocking, mediocre run blocking. Cooper is the best player on the line as of right now. Winston vs Massie could be a good camp battle. Levi looked better than Potter IMO.

Defense looked ok.

Very little edge rush to speak of. This will be a major issue.

Hard to gauge defense without Dansby or Washington in.

If the idea of a 3-4 defense is to have more speed on the defense than a 4-3, we are failing.

Peterson and Mathieu are playmakers.

If we can ever get Peterson, Dockett, Campbell, Washington, Dansby and Mathieu on the field at one time, we should consistently see some plays made. Dynamic group of athletes. Add a legit pass rusher, and we could be a top 10 defense.

Thotz: only watched the first half of the game.

Carson Palmer is a real NFL quarterback. Given adequate protection, we will finally have a passing attack after three years of garbage. Green Bay appeared to be vanilla on defense, so my enthusiasm is curbed. And they aren't exactly Seattle or SF either.

Encouraged by what I saw of the special teams coverage units. It seemed like they were doing a good job of covering punts and kickoffs.

Run blocking is not NFL quality, at least not yet. That's OK for now, but eventually it will have to improve to adequate IMO.

I liked the top three wide receivers before this game, and I still do. No matter how much BA loves the 2 TE formations, the strength of this team is the wide receiver corps, and I think that has to be his preferred alignment at this point. The tight ends did nothing to change that perception in this game. We aren't at the Fitz/Bolden/Breaston level, but we are in good shape especially if a couple of the younger players can develop.

We have a legit pass rusher, with a sack and strip in game one as proof.

Only 1 TE was targeted, so I don't see how one can conclude that as a group they are terrible.

Dray was very mediocre and Jefferson was flat bad. I didn't see King, but he hasn't played a good snap in a while.

The situation is bad.

As for a pass rusher, one sack by a vet vs. a 2nd team OT. Not impressed, that is what a vet pass rusher should do against a backup. Abraham was MIA when Rodgers was in. Didn't even smell him.

It was mentioned during the telecast that the guy Abraham beat was in fact Green Bay's starting right tackle.

I think most/all of us have had concerns about the TE position this entire offseason. Housler only played with the starters which was what, 9 snaps?

Dray is who we thought he was (sorry K9). Thing is that BA took rookie TE's last year and got solid production out of them. Good to see Fitz is spending time with DC after practice to help him with his receiving skills.

I think that our WR's will keep the attention of the D enough that even a TE with Dray skills will have an impact.

I'm not judging the pass rush since DD & CC only had cameo appearances and I'm sure there wasn't much utilized in regards to blitzes. Plus we did end up with 3 sacks which is better than avg.

So you are saying that we don't have enough info to conclude that we have pass rush problem. Agreed.

So, if we have this thread, why are there 6 other separate threads for thoughts on this game?

I changed the bold part to more reflect my personal feelings.... with apologies to Jackie Smith.

It'll be interesting to see how many tight ends the Cardinals carry on the roster this season. If it is based on talent alone, you'd think there would be more wide receivers and fewer tight ends.

I suspect tight end is one of the positions the Cardinals will be checking the waiver wire most closely for. Outside of Rob Housler, none of the tight ends on the roster excite me and that includes D.C. Jefferson.

Have the Cardinals had an above average tight end since Jay Novacek's departure?

I am saying that we had pass rush issues prior to this season. We have cut Schofield, and let Groves sign elsewhere. We signed Abraham, Shaughnessy, Alexander and then drafted Okafor. After watching the game, I don't see any reason to conclude that we have fixed our pass rush.

I'd definitely sign up for any of our RB's to have a Vick Ballard type season this year. That's leaps and bounds ahead of last year, and honestly not sure you're going to see anything significantly better than that with Bruce Arians' offense.

Ide rather get back to the Mendenhall 1200 and 1300 yard years under Arians then a Vick Ballard type 800 yard season. But thats just me.

Also throw in JV Cain & the dude we let go so the Cowboys could make him a star.

Point well made though, the TE position has been a weakness for the Cards far more than not.

Abraham didn't start IIRC.

Umm Choppers wrong. They specifically stated during the broadcast that the sack was against the starting RT. And you are right Abraham didnt start.

LIKES:

Honey Badger looked like a stud.

Pass Blocking was pretty solid.

Palmer looked good.

Stanton made some nice throws and plays with his feet.

We threw the ball downfield a lot.

Nice pick by Peterson.

DISLIKES:

Run blocking was awful.

Not overly cheesed about letting Rodgers just march right down the field with the first team D.

Feely.

Excited to see what this D is like when/if everyone gets on the field at once...Dockett, Campbell, Dansby, Washington, Abraham, Peterson and Mathieu could be a dynamite group of playmakers.

true. However it is just pre season and i cant think of a single D that Rodgers isn't capable of doing that on in the entire league.

Also they ran the no huddle and IIRC BA said that it caught his defense off guard.
