I looked up our record after 8 games the last 20 seasons. I thought it was interesting perspective on where we are this season after 8 games. And, reflective for the memories. I have bolded the playoff years.

2020: 5-3
2019: 3-4-1
2018: 2-6
2017: 4-4
2016: 3-4-1
2015: 6-2
2014: 7-1

2013: 4-4
2012: 4-4
2011: 2-6
2010: 3-5
2009: 5-3
2008: 5-3

2007: 3-5
2006: 1-7
2005: 2-6
2004: 3-5
2003: 3-5
2002: 4-4
2001: 2-6

1. First thing that jumps out is that we had losing records at 8 games in 11 of those seasons. 4 times at .500, only 5 with a winning record.

2. Whisenhunt and Arians had 2 seasons with a winning records after 8 games and made the playoffs both times. Kingsbury now has two seasons of winning records after 8 games but missed the playoff in the first one. Second.....? TBD.

3. The season that really stands out is 2014. Same record as we have now, I thought we were really contenders for the Super Bowl that year. Palmer gets hurt vs Rams, Stanton gets hurt and we finish with Ryan Lindley. Gotta hope history doesn't repeat it's self this year.

4. The agony of 2006. Matt Leinart's rookie season. The infamous "We let them off the hook!" Bears game on Monday. The most painful loss at State Farm ever, at least for me personally.

Any thoughts?

I agree with #3 & #4 most.

I thought 2014 was going to be THE year. If Carson’s (2nd) ACL doesn’t pop, we were poised to sneak up on every team in the league. I remember I was in a Sedona bar watching it live, and thought WT-actual-F? That moment made me realize half of anything in life is luck.

If we won that 2006 bears game, that team makes the playoffs, and it probably changes the narrative behind ML.

We’ve had some bad luck. However, I’m happier this is all going down in week 9 instead of 14 or 15. We will see what these guys are actually made of. If they’re truly a Super Bowl team, this is just a speed bump.

Nice research btw.

Memories of that game vs the Bears still get to me! I couldn't leave my seat at the end of the game; I just sat there for a long time, shaking my head and thinking, "What the hell just happened?"

And then on the big screen came D. Green's infamous press conference. . .
