The Cardinals have gone across the pond for their most recent free agent signing.
The team inked defensive lineman Moubarak Djeri of the German Football League to a contract. Djeri, who is 6-foot-3 and 275 pounds, had 12 sacks, 40 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and a pair of forced fumbles for the Cologne Crocodiles in 2017.
“It was a big dream, and right now it’s life,” Djeri said of signing an NFL contract. “I’m so excited to be here.”
Djeri, 22, was born in the small West African nation of Togo and moved to Germany when he was 11 as part of a student exchange program. He began playing football with the junior team in Cologne at the age of 18. Djeri said he first became interested in the sport at the age of 6 while watching it on television.
Djeri said he has watched the Cardinals play and is familiar with defensive ends Markus GoldenYou must be registered for see imagesand Chandler JonesYou must be registered for see imagesas well as cornerback Patrick PetersonYou must be registered for see images. He realizes the jump to the NFL will be a steep climb.
“I know the NFL is much faster than the league I played in before,” Djeri said. “But I’m going to keep working.”
