Well, as we sit here on a 5-game losing streak, a half a game from the bottom of our division. I think it's about time to start looking forward. To really get a good idea of who we should be looking at in the draft and in the offseason, we should be looking at who we have to assess what we need...

Offense is obviously our weakest point.

Miller and Grimm both suck as coaches. Grimm's lines have been pathetic. And for some reason Miller, after watching opposing defenses mop the floor with our QBs, still refuses to keep an RB and/or a TE back to help get the QB an extra half a second. When our biggest weapon on offense is a WR (just happens to be the best WR in the game), it should seem pretty obvious that keeping your QB on his feet is a pretty good idea.

The O-Line has been downright embarrassing this year. We've had NFL worst OTs the last few years at least. I want to see Potter out there more. He held his own against GB and a talented rushing in Clay Matthews his first time playing in the NFL. Considering how God-awful Batiste has been, I think Potter not only earned more time vs. GB, but Batiste also earned time on the bench with his performance all year. I want to see Kelemete get more time as well. Snyder sucks, and he's slated to make $2.9M next year (8th highest player on the team). I see NO reason to keep him. Too expensive to sit on the bench all season. Colledge is slated to make $3.8M, he's our best OG, but that's not exactly something difficult to accomplish. I do think he's good for the team off the field as well. I read he's been working with Potter for the last 3 years, and continues to do so now that they're teammates. We don't have another option at C, so regardless of any opinion, Sendlein stays. Which IMO is fine, as I don't think he's bad, and with some help, should do quite well (not to mention, the guy is cheap, $2.4M next year, but only $700K this year)

Powell needs more minutes. He does still lead the team in YPC, but even with our top 2 RBs hurt, he barely gets any carries.

Doucet will cost the team $2.25MIL next season (more than Floyd and Roberts combined). I don't know why they would keep him as a #4 WR at that cost.

Kolb, as no surprise to anybody I'm sure, is our highest paid player. $9M next year. While it is clear that he is our best QB, I don't see his value being THAT high. However, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of options. Would love to see him take a pay-cut and stick around, but for whatever reason, I just don't see that happening. He'll either be here at full price, or will be gone. If those are our only 2 options, I vote "gone". And I like Kolb. Just not $9M worth. Then again, maybe he could be, if the line can keep him alive. But should we flip that $9M coin?

Heap is in the last year of his contract. And I think his career as well. The guy can't stay on the field. And when he's hurt, he can't get back on the field. He was worth a shot. He was a great player and is a great guy, his time is just up unfortunately...

Defense, being our strongest point scares me in terms of coaching as well. Horton was interviewed for one HC job already last year. I'm sure he will be on some lists this year as well. Bidwill needs to give him a raise and more control if that will keep him happy and here.

Bradley is slated to make $5M. When's the last time he even played? He's got ONE tackle and ONE assist this year. Put him in there, see if he's worth even trying to renegotiate or should he just be cut? Clearly Lenon is Horton's preference with DWash. But he's getting old, how long can he keep it up?

AW is getting old. He can still play, but it's a good idea to find a kid in the draft to start grooming to replace him when he does ride off into the sunset (and Ring of Honor)

Fleming hasn't looked exactly dominant, but he's steadily improving. I think by kickoff of '13 regular season, he will be a legit #2 CB

Scho and Acho have shown flashes of beast, but they may be better suited in this D like they played last year, rotating with each other on one side. So that opens up a spot for dominant pass rusher if we're in position to grab one

Williams hasn't impressed at NT, he needs to pack some pounds back on this holiday and off season IMO

all in all. I'm happy with our D. I think there is a lot of young talent and some vicious old vets that have bled Cardinal red and only want to bring the Lombardi trophy back to AZ more than anything in the world. There are a couple spots that could use improvement, but that's the case anywhere. The opposite side of the ball gets an opposite review. Our offense is pathetic. When you have one of the best playmakers in the game out there busting his ass every down, there's really no excuse. The line is is dire need of repair. I hope these young kids can improve it to a livable level. Even if they do, we need depth. Another big ? is RB. Has Wells ever played a complete season. Obviously Williams hasn't. I would love to see them both do so next year, but history indicates that I shouldn't hold my breath. QB is a huge issue obviously and has been beaten to death. Our top draft pick and supposed #2 WR has averaged only 2 catches per game (though Whiz said only a few days ago that he's earned more playing time. We'll see). King, a guy we got for his blocking ability, we don't keep back to block... the entire offense is just a mess...

what's everybody else thinking should be the priorities for the team to be looking at NOW, to hopefully learn what they should be looking at in the offseason?

Bradley is playing behind Lenon in the depth chart, which explains why we have not seen much of him. Not sure why they don't split time between the two at least, as bradley had a pretty good pre-season I think. He took a pay cut to stay here this year, who knows if he will do the same if asked again this year?

maybe. Even still, paying $2.5M for a guy to sit on the bench all year is still a waste

On offense I would draft one of the top three tackle prospects. Lewan, Matthews or Joeckel. Move Levi over to RG. Let Doucet go and have our WR's as Fitz, Floyd, Roberts and Byrd. Let Heap go and make Housler the starting TE. At QB I keep Skelton as the starter, redo Kolb's contract and have Lindley as the third man. There just isn't going to be a QB to get in this draft or free agency. At RB I would draft a guy in the third round to compete with Beanie and Williams.

On defense I let Nick Eason and Vonnie Holiday go and replace them with 2nd and 4th round picks. I like Tank Carridine in the second round. At linebacker I would start Bradley over Lenon, but keep Lenon as the backup and rotate him in to keep Bradley fresh. In the 2014 draft I take the best passrushing OLB I can find and start him with Acho on the other side with Schofield and Groves as the backups.

At DB I try to re-sign DRC as our #2 CB to Peterson and have Toler and Fleming as their backups. I release William Gay and Mike Adams. At safety I draft one in the second round of 2014 to be AW's replacement. The folling year I draft another safety high to be Rhodes replacement.

On special teams I replace both Feely and Zastapoodle and draft a return guy in like the 5th rd.

With the notable exception of keeping Skelton as the starting QB and moving Levi to a position he's never played, looks like a pretty solid plan.

Having two rookies as primary backups on the DL spells trouble to me.

David Carter would be in his 3rd year and a reserve player.

Cards draft/offseason needs in order of importance:

1. Starting-quality Quarterback
2. Starting-quality Guard
3. Starting-quality OLB
4. Reserve Safety
5. Reserve Running back
6. Reserve Defensive lineman
7. Reserve Cornerback
8. Reserve Inside Linebacker
9. Reserve Offensive Tackle

Except, not coincidentially, for the playoff runs.

1. Warner
2. Wells/Lutui
3. Okeafor/Berry
4. Aaron Francisco
5. Tim Hightower
6. Alan Branch/Kenny Iwebema/Gabe Watson
7. DRC/Eric Green
8. Monty Beisel
9. ??????

Just goes to show you that our OL depth has been shaky for a long time. Who was the second-team tackle for this squad? Elton Brown was on the roster, but he's not a tackle.

1. Warner - it was 3.5 years or so. Big Whoop.
2. Wells/Lutui -Questionable at best.
3. Okeafor/Berry it was 2.5 years or so.
4. Aaron Francisco - Hah!
5. Tim Hightower - It was a nice NFC Championship game for sure.
6. Alan Branch/Kenny Iwebema/Gabe Watson - Pfft.
7. DRC/Eric Green Hah! Eric Green?
8. Monty Beisel - wha?
9. ?????? - Yep, exactly.

Maybe I am just like my father too bold.

Eric Green? :thud:

Rats. I was kind of hoping this was a thread that said Whiz was making a few changes in personnel and someone on Hardy Dr. was counting things to make sure a few white boards and towels didn't go out the door with them.

My thinking on this has rarely changed. Keep drafting a QB with your #1 until you find one. No team has ever won much of anything without a good NFL QB.

here's what's missing from the inventory:

OT, pass-rushing OLB, QB... in other words, the same freaking positions we ALWAYS need to fill, yet always seem to ignore for the most part in the first four rounds of the draft.

what's the point when the kid is just gonna be a tackling dummy for defenses? I thought Kolb looked good in the games he wasn't setting NFL records for sacks. 41 sacks plus 66 QB hits. We lead the league in sacks, 12 more than the next team. And only PHI has more QB hits than us at 77. DEN by comparison, is 11 sacks and 24 QB hits. 107 total shots on QB compared to 35. If we had fixed our line before this season, we may have had the MVP front-runner taking snaps for us right now. "Pathetic" most accurately describes our line. If we fix that, I'd bet the production from the QBs and RBs that we already have will improve substantially

3. Starting-quality OLB
4. Reserve Safety
5. Reserve Running back
6. Reserve Defensive lineman
7. Reserve Cornerback
8. Reserve Inside Linebacker
9. Reserve Offensive Tackle

I like this very concise list. I am going to quibble about a couple of things.

I change OLB to pass rusher deluxe and move it ahead of OG. If your rosey (good on you btw) outlook on our OT's is correct then I expect Snyder and College to improve their play as well. Currently they both have to play their position with two eyes on the OT next to them.

If Potter and Massie continue to improve then yes OT is solid with Levi coming back and assuming his injury this year was a fluke. I just have flashbacks to Berry going out in consecutive years with torn muscles.

I would also move ILB up to needing a Quality Starter because Lenon is not getting any younger. While his attitude, leadership and QBing of the D is outstanding his playmaking is only decent.

I have also almost entirely given up on W&W as they can't stay healthy so let's get a true starting caliber NFL RB.

So the shelves are not as bare as many believe. The problem is we don't know if we have a legit QB on the team due to the pitiful Oline play so far this season.
