That about sums it up!

The contract should have read " + or - One". Blame the agent who negotiated the contract and ask him to pay it for his negligence. Better yet: fire him and sue him. us Bill Jr as your attorney.

At one time in my life I was a District Manager for General Electric. Each year I was given a salary and had 5 goals set for me. I received a percentage of my base salary for each goal I met. Believe it when I say GE was not going to give me the extra $$$ for coming close. That is why they are GE. Imagine if they made an exception for me the the other zillion District Managers would want the same benefit. I really like Kurt but a deal is a deal is a deal. I am with Graves and Bidwill on this. I could have complained to my VP but he was on the same deal.

I don't think he should get the 500k. But if the contract was written requiring hitting 3 of 4 to get 1.5 million, I'd probably feel differently. Reality is he earned 1-million, not 1.5 million.

Take a hike agent, sorry about your lost commission. And you aren't doing your client any favors by being a whiner.

OK while that might be kind of funny to some of you, is that **** really necessary? What does it have to do with anything?
My thought exactly! And not in keeping with the tone of this board and the wishes of it's owner...

Regarding Warner's bonus: Keep in mind that Warner will (did) recieve an additional $1 million in bonus incentives that he did achieve, this past season. So it's not as though Kurt got nothing extra for his yeoman performance this past season. He made an extra $1 mill, and failed to make the additional $500K that was possible; even though he came close.

Can't blame his agent for asking... Can't blame the Cardinals for refusing!

I do like daytripper's suggestion however!
daytripper said:

Positve publicity and a tax write off to boot.

Story is a whole lot of nothing.

Dont blame the agent for asking for it, any good agent would and I would expect my agent to do it as well. Dont blame the Cards for saying No either. Story is not a big deal and probably the last time we even hear about it.

Wow, here I was, ready to blast Graves for trying to nickle-and-dime Warner. Uh, no. Complete non-story, unless the agent tries to be an idiot about it. He didn't make it, so he doesn't get it. Sorry, Kurt.

Nobody told him to think Brenda's vagina was a clown car.
Completely unneccessary man. The guy is on our team, saved our season and is pretty big christian. For those reasons, I doubt you would say it to his face. No need to type it here IMO.

My 2 cents.
Unfortunately this is a no win situation for the the Bidwills. Award the bonus and your breaking down the bond of a contract and setting a precedent.
Dont award it and youre...
My suggestion would be to consider splitting the amount at 250k and donating it to a charity or charities of KWs choosing.

What ever I find this completely disgusting (no, not the joke) that Warner's agent would bring this up and allow it to go into the press.

The terms of the contract are stated in black and white. Warner did not reach those goals and should not get the money for achieving those goals.

Like many said it will open the can of worms for every player who "comes close" to think they deserve money for performance based bonuses as well.

Furthermore, owners can than decide that a player just barely made the the criteria for a a bonus and not pay the player. It can work both ways IMO.

What if Warner had a rating of 89.9999999999999999999995 and the league rounded it up to 90? Could the owners say well you actually didn't make it or it was high enough in our opinion.

For Pete's sake I would take this information and go down to the NJ lottery and go "HEY I was close enough give me the money!"

This wreaks of bad business, bad ethics, bad intentions, and underhanded slimy manipulative BS. I blame Warner's agent and Kurt Warner himself for letting this go public. This is complete crap and everyone involved knows it. I am disgusted, and dissapointed with Warner to say the least.

My only hope is Bidwill/Graves stand firm and tell Warner and his agent to go have a catch in traffic.

What an awful thing to put into the press !!!!!

Dont you think you are overreacting a little bit here. It could have just been some desk jockey that has the ear of this writter who heard about in the front office. Could have been the Cards who leaked it to show players they cant be walked on. Who knows?

It is funny. I would laugh if someone said it about me or my significant other, but I am not quite sure Kurt would think it was too funny. On top of that, you know that isn't the content that Skkorp had in mind when he started this place.

I dont know, I like to have fun and tease people on here and whatnot, but I just think that bringing player's wife's reproductive organs into the mix may be taking it a bit far.

Nope. Not one bit.

I don't if it leaked, its not his fault, some desk jockey is to blame blah, blah, blah.

Regardless of how it got out, it is in fact out for the public, and players to see.

This is a HORRIBLE thing to even discuss.

A contract is black and white. No f'n grey area.

He didn't hit the numbers that he needed so he doesn't get the money. What is there to disagree over ?

Not everyone may see it my way, but this is B.S. as far as I am concerned.

To me Kurt Warner is now looking for free hand outs.

Hey, I need some damn money where is my free handout ?

Complete B.S.

Call it racism, or a stereotype. But all lot of people believe that:

Some Christians like to reproduce like bunny rabbits.

I am not saying all, or even that I believe this. But that is the stereotype.

Plus in Chistianity the belief is to have as many kids as you can, and that if the man wants a child the woman has no place to say anything about it.

I was an alter boy when I was young, so I know that is it true

Neither side is upset. Agent asked, Cards Said no, end of story. Something about Moles and mountians, you know the saying.

Agent wouldnt be doing his job if he didnt ask, these types of things are asked for every day more then people know, in any field where people are represented by agents. It doesnt cause bad blood and isnt a big deal.

Granted.

It may "happen all the time" but I don't read about it. This situation should be delt with much more delicately than this. You just don't let stuff like this get out.

The media WILL turn this mole into a mountain.

It is just plain stupid.

As for the agent doing his job.
Can the man read and understand the written English language ?

Are his math skills above a 2nd grade level ?

The contract say 90. The stats say 89.8. Where is the confusion ?

The agent can do his job by looking at the contract and say. Well, we didn't get to 90 so we don't get the money. It says that right here in black and white in the contract. Thus he does his job without making the slightest ripple in the water.

I am sorry if I am sounding completely mad (which I know I can be quite ridiculous sometimes) but this is just STUPID. It just makes everyone look stupid and causes un-needed kindling for the media to set aflame.

reports Arizona Cardinals QB Kurt Warner's agent would like the Cardinals to award a $500,000 bonus that Warner just missed statistically in the 2007 season.

Warners agent is an idiot to even ask for it.

If this was Leinart I might do it to keep the (hopefully) future of the franchise happy and productive.

The dude made quite a bit of money. I'm not really feeling for him. Nobody told him to think Brenda's vagina was a clown car.

Wow. Just, wow.

Mokler - Kurt had a yeomans effort this year and I appreciate what he did to hold it together. But even the biggest Warner fan of all time has to understand that he is not the future, wheter it is Matt or not. There is nothing good (except giving a millionaire more money he doesn't need) that would come from paying this out.

My point is with Matt that 500K (right or wrong) might be worth it to keep the future of the franchise happy with his team and ownership. There is no such benefit with Kurt. It is what it is.

You think the Patriots might feel the same way about Tom Brady opposed to a Drew Bledsoe when they had them both?

I don't think Warner should get it, even though it isn't unprecendented for teams to reward players with a bonus that isn't written into their contract.

Your point of view seems very hypocritical to me though.
You think the Patriots might feel the same way about Tom Brady opposed to a Drew Bledsoe when they had them both?
I don't even know where to start with this statement. Are you comparing Leinart to Brady? Bledsoe's last year as a starter vs. Warner's year last year? Warner put up 28 TD's in an abbreviated fashion. Bledsoe's best year he only put up 28 in 16 games. I'm not sure how the Patriots really felt either. It's not like Brady beat out Bledsoe initially. He went in when Bledsoe had a punctured lung or stomach or whatever. It's not like the Patriots were in love with Brady. Didn't draft him high, didn't start him over a very mediocre Bledsoe, etc. Sure, they caught lightning in a bottle but it's not like they were geniuses and could see something that no one else did.

Again, I'm not arguing that Warner should get the bonus. Just that your sentiment is hypocritical to me. I wouldn't give it to Warner and I wouldn't give it to Leinart. I wouldn't mention either of their loved one's because an agent asked for more money.

You know when the season started no one even considered it possible he would reach anywhere near his goals. But if I were Warner and I had made my goals by the next to last game of the season with the last game meaningless then I would fake an injury so as not to cost me $500,000 for a meaningless game. That is what happens when management follows the contract by the letter concept. That is the kind of team you want the Cardinals to be? A team that encourages its players to look out only for themselves because they know the team wont take care of them and do the right thing.

There is plenty of precedent for players not playing so as to reach mile stones at home or sitting out meaningless games. in baseball players have sat out the last game of the season to win batting titles. So to do so for contract money would not be unheard of.

And if contract law were as black and white and as simple as some portray it then there would be no need for people to spend 3 years studying the law.

If you want good motivated players a team does not want the reputation for being cheap. Regardless of what the contract says he deserves the money. Without him the team was looking at 3-13.
