I'm displeased with this pick too. I'm really tired of our approach to the first round lately. This is the 13th pick in the draft. I want to read things like "will step in immediately and lock down X" position. I'm not going to get excited about "can immediately be inserted into sub-packages!" and "will provide depth at a number of positions."

This is the modern day NFL. When you have a pick this high, you need to go for the home run, not bunt. And, make no mistake--with the names left on the board, we frickin' BUNTED. Gah, the board was set up for a can't-miss, day 1 defensive starter...and we took another frickin' project. How do you take a project at #13?

And who should've been taken instead? We lost 5 defenders to free agency and had the opportunity to become more athletic inside, something that was lacking with Minter. Not sure how we "bunted." We took arguably the most athletic defender not named Garrett.

A million times over we should have taken Hooker. Maybe even Jonathan Allen at that point.

The only other guy I would have like them to take that was still on the board besides Reddick was Hooker. I'm really shocked they didn't get Hooker. I'm still happy about this pick, but still thinking Hooker would have been our instant number 2 CB across for PP.
Yea except Hooker plays Safety.

Ha ha, you beat me to my edit. I was thinking of really taking over Jefferson's spot...
He wouldn't even take Jefferson's spot. He would take the Tyvon Branch role if anything. He's a deep Safety while Jefferson was a box Safety.

If that was true they coukdbhave traded up too? Yes?

Yes and no. Giving up a first round pick to move from #27 to #10 makes a ton of sense. Giving up a first round pick to move from #13 to #10 doesn't. But the team at #10 is a lot more likely to take another first rounder than they are a 3rd or 4th.

I would've been fine with either. I'm intrigued by Reddick's athleticism, something we've lacked at ILB since Dansby and D-Wash in 2013.

I will say that my man needs to invest in some Rogaine. At his age, he can't be rocking LeBron's hairline.

Hahaha... I was just enamored with Hooker and would have traded up to #5 to get him.

Honestly, I liked Reddick a lot coming in, and I'll probably warm back up to him once I get over the gut punch that was the proof of other teams coveting Mahomes and Watson, and that I never dreamed Hooker would make it to us.

I really hope Reddick kills it for us.

I really like the pick. I think he'll make a fine transition to ILB, especially continuing to learn under Dansby. I'm not even one of those guys that likes every pick either cause Lord knows I hated the hell out of the Humphries pick 2 years ago.

So we hold off until we go 1 and 15? They must not have liked them to much. Then it's good they didn't move. We will have to at some point and IMO this would have been the time. Our first next year should be at the back of the first round. Next year if we are at the back of round 1 it will take 3 1st to get a top QB.

One day some day we will have to pay up or suck it up.

I agree it should have been the time to move up. I desperately wanted one of these two guys. I'm just saying that maybe we didn't have the right capital to make any move that wasn't as bad as the Bears' move.

Here's the thing. By the time our pick came around, the top 3 QB prospects were gone. And I'm glad we didn't trade up. Chicago grossly overpaid to move up 1 spot and Houston, while moving up 12 spots overpaid as well. This is what happens when you're desperate. I have no idea what the Bears were thinking. I mean were they that hungry for Turbinsky to trade an additional 1st round pick for? Houston, at that point, I can understand but not Chicago but I digress. By the time our turn rolled around we literally had 5 or 6 guys to choose from that would have helped this team tremendously so we went with the greatest need. The hinge pick will be tomorrow in the 2nd round. If Kizer or Webb are there, which is a distinct possibility then I'd take one. If we don't take a QB, then we're in deep doo doo come next season unless we are staking our future on Stafford being available. Anyhoo, I like Reddick and would have loved Allen as well. I originally liked Foster but after his combine issues I don't think I'd take a flier on him.

You make a compelling argument dude, and you are right conceptually... I guess I'm just not as sold on Watson. If I were I might feel the same way, but alas... We shall see.

What I'm saying is if I had been a big fan of us drafting Watson, I'd probably totally agree with you, but I never saw him as our QBOF, but then again, I am just a guy postin on a message board. :p

I have been saying we still have next draft, trades, etc. to get a QB. We have a starter and back up now. Let's load up the rest of the team, my preference is defense, and roll this season! :)

You have to like what Andy Reid did though. He has a good track record with QB's and is now able to develop a guy while they've already had a few playoff appearances with the current one. He worked with Favre from day one in Green Bay and probably sees some of him in Mahomes. KC should be good for a long time.

Houston overpaid but got the most NFL ready guy. They should be in the SB within three years.

Bears are so screwed for the foreseeable future.

We won't be in a position to get a QB next year either. We're going to have to mortgage our future no matter what at this point, either in terms of draft picks like the Chiefs and Texans did, or financially, on the almost hopeless idea that either Garoppolo or Cousins will be available. And Garoppolo will still cost us a litany of picks.

The future is extraordinarily bleak on offense. I hate to be this doom and gloom, but I see no bright spots. Maybe if we catch a break and can develop Kizer?

BOTTOM LINE
Injuries limited Reddick to just four games over last two years of high school, forcing him to walk on at Temple. The Owls staff helped him unlock his explosive athletic traits on the field, which resulted in three forced fumbles, 9.5 sacks and 21.5 tackles for loss in 2016. Reddick's speed and athleticism might give him a greater shot at impacting the game as a 3-4 inside linebacker or a 4-3 WILL rather than trying to bulk up and play the edge. An ascending prospect with a high-end potential if he can continue to hone his craft.

Sal Paulo on ESPN radio just said he was hearing the Cardinals really really wanted Mahomes or Watson and got jumped on
So the Cardinals talked about the need for a QB and the other teams heard them and jumped in front.
Was this planned by SK all along and he had no interest in the QB's? Or did the tipped info come back to bite him?

I figure whatever this waste of life doesn't like is good for the Cards
Hey Chris. ***. Shaggy, Iceman, this is the dumb poo that made people leave the board. Letting these hypocritical ***** stay in power on here is beyond asinine. If anyone else had said what that clown just said to me on here, they'd be banned with a quickness. What a joke.

For one of the three QBs to drop to us, first off, or make a move up to secure Watson after KC grabbed Mahomes. Barring that, to have drafted Malik Hooker.

I was essentially praying that one of the three QBs dropped, or at least one of the two WRs. After 2017, this team is going to be playing for 3rd place in the division. Our future is looking pretty bleak from where I'm sitting.

Did I miss CP announcing that 2017 is his victory tour?

I remember Parcells saying that a guy like Testaverde could play until he was 50 as long as they protected him. He was just a pure pocket passer. I would say CP is that type of QB. He'll always be a great spinner of the ball, as long as he can stand upright in the pocket & not have to move around. That being said, CP absolutely could be around through NEXT year. We still need to do something with the position. I still would rather go after a guy like Bradford, who's still relatively young & is super accurate. I guess it depends on whether the Vikings are still sold on Bridgewater. I would rather spend 1st round picks on a proven commodity. Bradford would be a stud in Arian's offense.
