Linebacker Monty Beisel will get a chance to stick for another year in the NFL after the Cardinals re-signed him to a one-year contract Monday.

The 11-year veteran has played at least parts of the last five seasons with Arizona.

The Cardinals also announced that restricted free agents Steve Breaston and Lyle Seidlein signed their one-year tenders, and exclusive rights free agent cornerback Michael Adams also signed his contract.

Florio reported earlier Monday that Gabe Watson also signed his tender.

Breaston will be in line for a big payday soon. Better to do it sooner rather than later.

Good stuff. Beisel will provide MUCH needed veteran depth and experience to help out the new kids we'll ostensibly have on the roster.

I agree about Breaston, though; an extension MUST happen before the season starts. Wow, we have so much we have to do. What an offseason, eh?

I wonder what's up with Deuce. Is he upset with the tender and reluctant to sign it, or is he in the midst of working on a long term deal?

Maybe. Or he could just be out of state and can't come in to do his contract right now. Fitz isn't there because he's in India.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Monty Beisel ends up beating out Paris Lenon for the starting WILB job. Beisel has experience in the 3-4 defense and has been with the team. I'm not real bullish on Paris Lenon being a contributor to this team.

:barf: to either of them starting. I think Whiz will just go ahead and start McClain from day 1.

I would... and "define" contributor.

I don't think the Cards work on extending Breaston's contract until they see how his knee holds up for at least the first half of the season. Breaston didn't quite look the same last year after suffering that knee injury in the preseason.

Like starting more than 5 games before being benched for poor performance and playing exclusively on special teams, and then coming back for the 2011 season (if there is one). So far, none of the free agents that Graves signed last year have been unceremoniously released, although I wouldn't be answering my phone after the draft if I were Bryant McFadden or (maybe) Jason Wright. Hopefully that's the start of a new trend.

Why do you think that Lenon is more likely to start?

I think the fact they gave him a three year contract is a possible indication. I just have a sneaky feeling they didnt give such a contract to be a special teamer and a back-up ILB. I think right now he has head start on getting that other ILB spot but all that could change after the draft and in camp.

I am happy with these signings and especially happy they were all in attendance on the first day, including Joey Porter, who made an excellent statement by being there today.

Monty Beisel was not playing up to his standards last year...just how much his back was bothering him is a concern...however, with a very good off-season and a chance to make a crack at the starting lineup, who knows?

I am also very interested to see what new DB coach Donnie Henderson does with Michael Adams. I really believe in this kid and I feel confident that Henderson will too.

As for Deuce, it doesn't seem like him to miss the workout. I do wonder what's up with that. I sure hope it's because he's getting ready to sign a three to four year extension.

An overall better athlete with a stronger pedigree.

But, I should say - that I have a sneaking suspicion that the issue of who starts at WILB in the first game is yet to be settled. For example, what if Antonio Pierce is healthy enough to go, and would like a return to AZ?

Additionally, if Weatherspoon is the pick at #26, I wouldn't be surprised if he's a day (1) starter.

Should add, that I see it as unlikely that McFadden meets the Turk, and Morey's departure helps Wright keep his job.

Great points, CC. I don't think the starting WILB is on the roster yet.

Sorry CC, but that one has gone completely over my head. What does it mean?

The only recent contract I remember the Cards getting extended recently during the season is AW last year. Damn Graves, damn somebody!!! :bang: Lots of free agent peeps on this team again next year!!!

You and I seem to be the only two worried about this, Bucky. The most confisuing thing is the Cardinals have a surplus of money right now to get these deals done and they, as far as we know, are OK with one year tenders.

Well, I'm sure that Rod Hood, Travis LaBoy, and Al Johnson agree with you.

Define Lenon's "pedigree." Lenon was a special teamer for four years for the Packers before becoming a regular player on one of the worst defenses in the NFL in Detroit and then moving over to an even worse defense last season in St. Louis.

I don't think that Beisel is a world-beater, by any means. But Paris Lenon is not a very good football player by any measure. I'm not sure that being a starter on a succession of terrible defenses is much of a pedigree. Especially when you're moving from a 4-3 defense to a 3-4 defense. Jonathan Vilma was a much better player and never survived the transition.

I actually agree with you about McFadden (who I think has been unjustly criticized on this board) and Wright (who I think is a great contributor--I really respected him trying at FB late in the year). But let's not pretend that Rod Graves has been money on identifying veteran free agents who can stick around a while.

Mr B is trying to stock up on his ice cream just in case of a work stopage. :D

Mitch, I just don't get what this organization thinks sometimes. To think this FO is going to extend Breaston, DD, Leinart, THT, Deuce, Seindlein, etc during the season is risky and just keeps backing up future contract issues. The line gets longer each season. :bang: And to think, times have changed, hmmm.

They'd be ******** to follow this logic. If he gets to the regular season without an extension, he'll either be gone or force a ginormous contract out of us.

isn't that how the front office generally reacts to extensions?
