None of this matters guys. Leinart is going to make all of you regret worrying about who's behind him.

Not worrying, just believe we should hedge our bets. Not getting a decent future option is the same issue the Cards had when Plummer was the starter and we brought Dave freaking Brown in as the backup. Brown was a decent back up if you had a good offense (which we didn't) but had absolutely no upside.

Whitehurst could be a Pro Bowl caliber QB if everything worked out. He's got all the tools, just hasn't gotten any opportunities.

Romo is now the 2nd best QB (if not the best) in the history of Dallas Cowboys football.
Huh?? He's better than either Staubach or Aikman (or both)?

Based on what? How many Super Bowls has Romo led them to?

I think you could make a case that Danny White and Don Meredith were marginally better QBs than Romo for the Cowboys.

Romo chokes too much in the clutch to be considered great.

I don't see how Whitehurst and Anderosn can both be on the team. If the Cards trade for Whitehurst, no way Anderson is going to sign with that much competition. If the Cards sign Anderosn, it lessens the need to trade a draft pick for Whitehurst.

I predict next years QB depth chart to be:
Leinart
Whitehurst
BSP

As a passer, he has perfomed better than Aikman, Staubach, and Meredith. The only QB that is arguably better at this point is Danny White.

I disagree that Romo is a choker, that is a matter of opinion, not objective fact. What IS objective fact is that statistically Tony Romo is either #1 or #2 in most Cowboys passing statistics. Also, you fail to address my point: That Charlie Whitehurst being the 3rd string QB is similar to Tony Romo.

Either way, you didn't address my point that Whitehurst could be in the same situation that Romo was in.

IMO it makes more sense to sign one free agent experienced qb and to draft on to develop. I thought that was the direction the Cards were going to take.

That could be a way to go but, if you think about it, Leinart and Whitehurst are relatively young QB's still developing. What good would it be to add a 3rd to the mix. The 3rd guy would hardly get any developmental time at all. A veteran would be more likely to me.

He sure could be. So could BSP or Curtis Painter or Tyler Palko or Tim Tebow. We don't know because none of them have had legitimate opportunities in the NFL.

The problem is that given the instability of the Cards' QB situation as it stands now, IMO they don't need further "unknowns". We already have that with Leinart. My point is that now is the time to have backups who have experience.

Unknowns are all you're going to get! :p

It's not like we can go all and sign Drew Brees or Peyton Manning. Virtually all the QBs that have been available this offseason are either has-beens (Chad Pennington), QBs with major warts (Anderson), or unknown commodities (Charlie Whitehurst).

I'd rather go with the unknown commodity because at least if they have the talent there is a chance they'll flourish. Ideally we could have both, but as it stands now, most of the decent veteran options are gone.

And lastly, if Leinart doesn't work out with the way our team is, I seriously doubt Charlie Batch, Chad Pennington (who obviously isn't on the market now), etc. would really help. The NFL is a QB's league, and without a good one, you're chances in the playoffs are limited.

But none of the experienced QBs that are available are any good. Might as well take someone with potential upside over a QB who has proven to only be a backup caliber player.

I read both of the threads you bumped already. The vast majority of the posts said that a 3rd rounder was too much for him, but a later round pick might be ok--or flat out "don't want him". Not quite what you were making it sound like in the other thread. And, all of this speculation was to bring him in as a backup, not a starter.

Every dog has its day, I suppose. We could all search for whatever it was you were painfully wrong about in the past, though, if you'd like. :p

Maybe his hatred for Leinart was so white-hot that it blinded him to the suckiness of all other options.

This.

I don't think he (Anderson) sucks though. I liken the Cleveland offense to being in Oakland at this point. Just toxic for all kinds of talent. Put it this way, with Coach and his ability to develop QB's and Anderson's arm, maybe he just needs good coaching?

But hopefully all he has to be is one of the better backup QB's, which no matter how you slice it, he was on Cleveland last year.

:lmao:

Listening to the guys on NFL Network "before the fact" (a couple of weeks ago) discussing veteran FA quarterbacks who might fill a need, they felt Whitehurst was a sleeper whom the Chargers had effectively "hidden" behind Rivers and Volek for a couple of years and who represented a really good potential pickup for a team willing to part with a 3rd round pick.

At the very least, it makes sense for the Cardinals - in light of their void at backup QB - to bring the guy in for a close look. If - via tape or workout - he doesn't look like he can do the job, "nothing ventured/nothing gained."

But if Wiz and his offensive staff see something they like, Whitehurst could turn out to be a great pickup for a 3rd round pick (or perhaps a later pick plus a player in a "sign & trade" deal with SD).

I view reports that we're bringing in Whitehurst as a definite "positive."

I think signing Whitehurst would be a great move. We now have three untested QBs and no one has a clue as to how they will pan out. Like RBs a team and especially us need QBs. One might actually work out.

Don't forget Bulger. But that's what you get when your first round QBOF bombs. Reminds us of what a miracle it was that Green was able to get Warner and Kurt played the way he did.

As long as we're doing look backs.

Bump. Oh cbus *shakeshead* :D Then again, there were some Anderson lovers too *shakeshead* :D

Bumping old threads as a "gotcha" is extremely bad form and typically earns you a short break. All it does is lead to arguing on the board and is done to show up other posters.

Everyone has said something dumb at some point and no one needs it thrown in their face a year + later. This thread is locked.
