Possibly more of a PR move to try and salvage the image of the organization to the fan base.

I think this org just has a zero tolerence policy in these situations. If it happened to fitz we couldnt cut him but still. We have always ditched people when they get DUIs, didnt david boston get cut immediately after his?

BA and SK started out trying to make the culture squeaky clean. They then made an exception and brought in the Badger. Move was successful. They made additional exceptions and seemed to have gotten away with those.

This Spring they made Nkemdiche their top pick and you could sense cracks in the armor.

Now we have Floyd.

Begs the question: Have BA and SK become legends in their own minds and victims of their own success? Should they re-take the temperature of the team's culture (as well as taking a deep look inward)?

Each years' team is unique. What was successful last year may not work this year. Sometimes you can't assume that the highly-motivated group of self-starters & veteran leadership you turned over the keys to the car can be trusted again with those same keys a year later.

It just doesn't work that way. It takes a group of smart, open-minded, flexible leaders who'll view their team each season thru a new pair of glasses and make the right calls from year to year. Hopefully, BA and SK are that smart and that flexible.

Hopefully.

A first round pick with a few "chinks" in his human armor, truly hope he figures it out & helps another team being a good number 2 WR! In the meantime. thanks Michael, best of luck & happy Christmas.

If you recall, Fitz had that incident with his baby mama where she filed charges against him for assault/domestic violence. That was during the 2008/9 SuperBowl run. They certainly swept that under the rug and was never mentioned again.

That's where organizational arrogance comes in.

Cardinals owner and president Michael Bidwill, talking to me about the team’s release of Michael Floyd on Wednesday:

“There were a lot of factors, but it was a difficult decision for sure. And when you look at standards and expectations, the message is there. We have standards and expectations. Again it was a difficult decision, but we're moving on.”

It was a decision made by consensus?

"Yes, across the board."

Was it a statement?

“There were a lot of factors to it and I think it was just time for us to move forward. Deeply disappointed it didn't work out. He was a 2012 first-round draft choice for us, a person we thought would eventually take Larry Fitzgerald's position and be the No. 1 receiver for the future. Deeply disappointing that we moved on and he didn't work out as a person we had a lot of faith in.”

I thought it was before that, maybe my memory was off. However a DUI is proof, a filing is not so maybe that has some things to do with it as well?

Caution: Blatant Speculation Ahead

If Floyd was out partying regularly during the year-- the team likely knew. If he showed up Wed AM or Thurs AM during the year "under the weather", the team would have known.

this may have been the last straw on somehting that had been going on during the season

I will say this: it would explain how a guy goes from a rising potential star in the 2nd half of 2015 to terriblly inconsistent in 2016.

Speaking strictly from a football Xs and O's standpoint:

Even prior to this down season, the guy has never been dependable. He goes through episodes where hes on fire. But then disappears for weeks at a time.

If Larry were to retire tomorrow, then Mike is our #1 guy. How competitive would we be with Mike as the #1 WR? I think we'd still be throwing the WRs #2 and #3 more than we did Mike.

And so this forces us (a good thing) to go find a true future #1 WR. Maybe Mike Williams in the draft, maybe somebody else. But it was never going to be Floyd anyways.

This whole thing is odd to me. I always assumed given his past that he was on some sort of "contract" that he couldn't drink and if he did and the Cards found out they'd cut him and he'd violate his contract or something. But then you read that he was drinking on the team plane and that implies he couldn't have been in that situation or he wouldn't have been stupid enough to drink on the plane knowing he'd get cut?

I do hope the Cards stand by him and help him get the help he needs but then I also hope that's on the NFL, he's been in the league long enough I would hope they have access to the kind of help he needs and can help him get it.

I thought he'd be cut yesterday to be honest, but I am surprised at the stuff that has come out. Drinking on the plane, blood thinners etc.

He'll get claimed by Pats and win a SB, watch.

Kind of my first thought too LOL. Seriously, I hope the young man gets help and beats his demons and gets well. Even if he doesn't play another down of football his life is much more important.

Or it means the organization is willing to give a guy a second chance if they've screwed up in the past and show remorse and a willingness to change and clean their act up, but will cut a guy that effs up while he's here. They cut Floyd and did the same to Dwyer and Jefferson after their legal troubles.

Not really a shocker but expected it more in offseason. I mean if you want to drink and go for a ride hire a driver the guy is rich enough...

Also anyone think John brown might be released next in terms of wr he hasn't done much this year.

When I say image of the organization, I didn't mean performance wise.
Yeah I get that. But I think the organizations image is taking a beating right now with all the press honing in on the obvious problem with STs and Arians steadfast refusal to acknowledge what the entire knows.

Seems hypothetical since they didn't cut dwash

There are financial reasons and cap implications around cutting D-Wash, which is the only reason why he's still on the roster. Floyd's dead money is only $850k this season.
