Not a surprise. RT @caplannfl: Cardinals cut QB Brian Hoyer, source confirmed.

Not that they needed the salary cap space, but that should partially defray Karlos Danby's contract.

Not saying they wouldn't have cut Brian if Karlos didn't come back, just saying it is a partial offset by saving the $2 million.

so much for any trade value!

Again you have to ask why now? Wouldn't it have the same effect during TC? Seems this would indicate they are thinking about bringing in another player. Or it could be that Arians means what he says when he talks about not splitting reps among QBs and doesn't feel the need to have 4 guys in camp.

The odd thing is why have they kept Lindley who was beyond horrible last season while cutting Kolb, Skelton, and Hoyer who were all better?

He may have asked to be released.
They may have wanted to free up salary cap space to offset Karlos Dansby or make a run at Dwight Freeney.
They may like Ryan Lindley.
Who knows at this point?

Nobody should be shocked this move happened. He was not going to make $2M from the Cardinals this year, at least as a 3rd string QB.

Obviously. But why?

So now we have Palmer, Stanton and Lindley.

Does anyone else think Lindley is even worth putting time, money, and effort into?

That is not saying much.

I looked a lot better then Lindley by sitting on the couch and taking a nap on Sundays.

Sure, but we'd be asking the same question if they cut you instead of Lindley.

$2M is too much to be paying a 3rd string QB.

I think the Cards hoped to get a trade offer for Hoyer during the Draft. When that failed to come to light they cut bait.

I am not surprised at all that he was cut, in fact I am sure all of us knew he would be let go eventually.

Good luck Hoyer wherever you end up.

Oh, wait, I thought that we were going to hold on to Hoyer until the Saints suffered an injury mid-way through the regular season?! He ABSOLUTELY still has trade value.

Interesting that all we heard for the last five months was how much Keim liked Hoyer. I wonder if Hoyer said that he'd prefer a chance to go look for more permanent work, and Keim and Arians granted his request.

There just aren't enough reps for four quarterbacks to get acclimated to a new offense. Expect that scrub from Purdue to make the camp roster and just run the interception drill team.

After Pitt signed Gratkowski and drafted a QB the trade possibility dried up. Free Agency isn't over and the $2M could come in handy. Remember the rumour of Card interest in Sedrick Ellis who could be added to the D-line mix.

The Browns have Weeden, Jason Campbell, and Thad Lewis as their only QBs, according to NFL.com. Michael Lombardi has been effusive in his praise for Hoyer. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him wearing orange when training camps open.

I have no doubt that Lindley fits the mold of "developmental QB" for Ariens, the same as Whiz. They like those big, strong armed QBs, and they all think they can "fix" accuracy problems with their fantastic coaching techniques to improve footwork.

The always unreliable Jason La Canfora [the guy who swore Geno Smith would be drafted in the top ten] claims 3 or 4 teams are interested.

I sort of believe him and suspect he won't be unemployed for long. He just won't be making $2-million.
