If they use Steveler the way he should be used (short yardage/dynamic plays - see New Orleans) - then it makes sense.

What doesn't make sense is having him on the roster last year and not using him correctly. How many 3rd or 4th and short plays could he have converted vs the garbage play we ran?

Part of it seemed to be K1 getting pissed each time he was taken out for Streveler. Either way - make a decision that is best for the football team to win and move on.

Also, after so many years in the NFL, aren't you ineligible to be placed on the PS?

I'm beginning to think there must be some hidden demand for Streveler if the Cardinals are unwilling to risk waiving him to put him on the practice squad.

lol. Dude, sometimes there no other shoes to drop to explain questionable decisions by GM’s/coaching staff.

I doubt Strevler even makes a practice squad anywhere else. He wasn’t even good in the CFL.

Then Streveler should be on the practice squad.

Streveler is 3rd on the depth chart, he shouldn't see any play time unless KM and McCoy both go down. He was not good in Canada and, granted in a bad situation, was not good against the Rams. For whatever reason KK is enamored with him, like with Isabella, so he makes the team. He is not even a poor man's (more like a destitute man's) Taysom Hill. The Cards have had PLENTY of Streveler's as backups through the years, it's nothing new.

If McCoy OR Streveler is the starter for any length of time the Cards are screwed anyway, just like most of the teams in the NFL would be. Sure, he takes up a spot on the roster but it would be filled by another JAG player.

Not really anything to be excited or riled up about IMO.

Kurt Warner wasn't good for the nfl and he had to play in Europe

Wikipedia:
Streveler became the first quarterback to start a CFL game coming out of college since 1994.... Streveler won his first CFL match in Week 2 when the Bombers defeated the Alouettes 56–10. Streveler started the first three games of the season for the Bombers before starting quarterback Nichols returned from injury. Streveler continued to be utilized as a rusher and rotational passer, and finished the season by completing 86 out of 140 passes for 1,134 yards and 11 touchdowns against five interceptions. On the ground, Streveler had 77 carries for 441 yards and 10 more scores.

The 2019 season began with Streveler as the backup quarterback to Matt Nichols. Nichols suffered an injury in Week 10 and was placed on the six-game injured reserve list, which promoted Streveler to the starting role. Streveler finished 2019 with 1,564 yards passing and eight touchdowns, compared to 14 interceptions in 17 games played. On 127 carries, he put up 726 yards and 12 more majors. Competing as a running option to Collaros, the West Semi-Final victory over the Calgary Stampeders saw Streveler set a CFL playoff record when he took 23 snaps at quarterback without attempting a pass. Streveler played a limited role in the West Final against the Saskatchewan Roughriders, with only one pass attempt and four carries for 10 yards, the Bombers still won and got a chance to compete in the 107th Grey Cup in Calgary. In the championship game Streveler played a much larger role, throwing a touchdown pass to Andrew Harris, rushing for thirty yards, and catching a pass from Darvin Adams, as the Bombers won their 11th Grey Cup, their first in 29 years.

Following the season, it was reported that Streveler had scheduled workouts with three NFL teams: the Arizona Cardinals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Miami Dolphins.[11]

I
2019 Draft Class
1 - Kyler Murray
2a - Byron Murphy
2b - Andy Isabella
3 - Zach Allen
4 - Hakeem Butler - cut
5 - Deionte Thompson
6a - KeeSean Johnson - cut
6b - Lamont Gaillard - cut
7a - Joshua Miles
7b - Michael Dogbe
7c - Caleb Wilson - cut

At least Murray and Murphy seem to be good. Dogbe has exceeded draft position expectations as well as Miles to be honest. Neither Isabella, Allen or Thompson have really shown anything to date. 2 of 11 is a pretty bad hit rate.

2019 by itself is poor, but as a follow up to this...

2018
1 - Josh Rosen - traded for less value
2 - Christian Kirk
3 - Mason Cole - traded for less value
4 - Chase Edmonds
6 - Chris Campbell - cut
7 - Korey Cunningham - traded

This is clearly why our roster is so dependent on trades and free agency.

4 WRs drafted in two years (two in the top 65) and it is questionable if any of them will be on our roster for the 2022 season.

4 OL drafted in two years and the only contributor was shipped off.

and yet we let Trent Sherfield go who could at least play special teams at a high level.
It's a BPA fallout - This will cause lop-sided talent roster-wise

Dude! Take that back! He was the MVP of the championship parade!!

But seriously, I have no idea how good or bad he was up there. They have weird rules about Canadian born players having to get so much playing time, so sometimes it's hard to tell how good someone is or isn't.

Yeah, I don’t get keeping Strevler on the roster if he isn’t being designated as a different position. Is it a rule that three quarterbacks are not allowed to dress? Which means he’s just taking a roster spot to wear street clothes. They should designate him as an H-Back Or something so they can at least get them in for some trick plays or goal line situations.

I thought you could have all QBs if you want. Just you need guys to play OL, DL, etc. So keeping 3 QBs active means you are not playing and OL, DL, CB, etc. A player you may need available due to injury instead of a guy who just sits. Now if Strevler could play special teams and fill another spot it wouldn't be so bad. Years ago the Dolphins had a back up QB that actually excelled in special teams. I remember him making tackles as a gunner, etc.

I'm still trying to figure out why he played over Hundley.

ROSTER 53 and up to 16 on PS.

46 on game day. Streveler is if dressed #46.

The NFL will carry over a series of 2020 roster rules designed to maintain adequate numbers if players are sidelined by positive COVID-19 tests.

The rules include:

  • Expansion of practice squads to 16 players, including up to six who have more than two accrued seasons.
  • The ability to protect up to four practice squad players per week from being signed by other teams.
  • Elevation of up to two practice squad players to the active roster, without removing any current players, before 4 p.m. ET the day before a game.
  • Elevation of an additional practice squad player within 90 minutes before kickoff in the event of a late COVID-19 positive test result.
  • Players placed on injured reserve can return after three weeks, rather than six as in normal seasons.
  • Removal of the limit for how many players can be activated from injured reserve.

There is no more 3rd QB rule. They dress 46 players on game day and must include 8 offensive linemen.

Wasn't that like 2-3 times the whole season until the Rams game?

Yep they literally won the title with him at QB.

He's not a great NFL QB but the idea that he sucked in Canada is just not true. The game is different there of course but he was a very good QB there.

I don't know what KK plans for him I actually think we should be using him like Taysom Hill he should be lining up at QB, RB, FB etc to keep teams guessing.

Honestly there were times last year where the RB's didn't get short yardage and I thought why in the heck don't we have Streveler in there. Go back to the SF game his first actual action he comes in cold, gets the ball on I think 4th down, the play is blown up because the C missed his block, and Streveler just lowered the boom and got the first down on a play he could have easily lost 2 yards.

he's clearly a guy that has a role in short yardage so if we're allowed to have both all 3 QB's active on game days I can see why they would.

53 players plus reserve squad and we spend 6 pages talking about Streveler who will have zero impact on the season. If Murray is injured he will still have zero effect. I like that Lee guy……
