He has 8 games to play for his next contract. If he stays healthy, he could be huge for us down the stretch and go for something in the 5-10 sack range. If he gets hurt or flops, we are only out a 6th.

Browning was a guy I remember reading about as a potential trade target at EDGE at the end of training camp. Not a world beater, but at least we did something and he could be relatively cheap to keep around if we like what we see.

Browning was definitely an under achiever at OSU but has a ton of talent.
He was good early on at Denver. Haven’t followed him very much since.

For a 6th, this is an excellent move.

Well it was either him or Max Crosby. But for Crosby we'd have had to give up a 3rd. So we lucked out. And his salary is a lot cheaper.

It's a 6th rounder for a third round prospect who is still only 25. I am sure never having seen this guy play he is better than Xavier Thomas - who we also spent a 6th on.

HUH? XT got 1.5 sacks yesterday and he a decent preseason. Granted, Browning has high upside but hasn't been able to stay on the field. But I don't think you should knock Thomas.

Coming out of high school Browning was one of the top recruits in the nation. To say he’s a great athlete is an understatement. He might have been the best athlete in his college draft class. However he was not a top player. He seems to lack instinct and recognition. He has skills. He sheds blocks well, he tackles efficiently and his speed when properly targeted is nearly unreal. I think the way to use him is to bring him in on obvious passing downs. Point him at the QB and turn him loose. If you remember Simeon Rice, this may also be a guy who runs by a ballcarrier and continues to the QB. That said, if he can be taught to stay in lanes, he has the potential to be highly disruptive. He can be very hard for a defender to contain. He’s fast, agile and uses his hands very effectively. Trying to use him on a broader mission has not proven effective. I think the sixth round price was right. This is a one trick pony, but I think he can be coached to become very good at that trick and it’s a trick the Cards badly need.

Those sacks were coverage sacks. He stinks at beating his man.

At the end of the day, we didn't give up much and if healthy he will be arguably better than anyone we currently have. Was this the deal I was hoping for? No, but if he does produce it will turn out to be a good trade, and if he doesn't we didn't risk much of anything.

Just looking at the Broncos pass rushing stats. The two guys ahead of Browning on the depth chart are head and shoulders better than any pass rusher on our roster. Not really a major knock on him that he wasn't seeing the field a whole lot this year.

I would be a hypocrite if I bagged on this trade. Is it the impact move I was looking for and that we need? No. Is he at least trading draft capital to try to improve the talent level? Yes. Hopefully the light goes on for this kid in the next 8 games.
