Cards high on Benson

[Lars the Red]

I don't know how many of you may remember it, but Benson turned off a bunch of the Longhorn faithful the week leading up to the Red River Shootout (OU game). During some of the fluff spots that the Network loves to put together interviewing past warriors of the event, Benson was asked if he'd rather beat OU who'd beaten the Horns the last several years, or win the Heisman? Benson bucked tradition and said he'd go for the glory of the Heisman over the team victory over the hated rivals.

Not a cool thing in the eyes of the faithful. Benson also has had a run in or two with the law regarding some supposed stolen property he was attempting to recover. Quite expensive property that raised a few eyebrows at the NCAA.

I personally think the guy could be a decent back in the NFL, but not near the explosive players the Auburn boys appear to be, and may not be as likely to contribute as some of the second round names bouncing around.

Well as long as the man did his homework you can't object! Sheesh, Rodgers is 195 pounds huh? Better check him for steroids then since he weighed in at the combine at 223, a whopping 28 pounds heavier than Ventre lists him.

Doesn't throw well downfield? written like a guy who only saw him play twice all year, USC and Texas Tech, and has no idea why Cal didn't throw downfield in those 2 games (USC playing 6 DB's at times, Cal missing it's 3 best WR's against TT).

I don't agree with his take on Benson either, one thing Benson DOES do well is hit the hole hard and fast, he's not a speed guy and he's not very elusive but he is very much a one cut and go runner and he breaks tackles

At some point a rookie RB will make a big impact here. I mean at some point it has to happen right ?? Might as well try again this year .... Also if ever there was a year to draft a RB high and start him it is this year.

Hmm...we've had piss-poor backfields since about 1987. If th elaw of averages is on our side, that means we'll have great RBs and QBs until the year 2022!

I read some stats on Benson relating to his percentage of yards gained after contact. Benson's numbers come in at just over 60%. The last RB to come out of college with a number over 60% was Earl Campbell.


Which obviously means two things. One - he is a BEAST. Two - he is probably headed for a relatively short, but extremely productive, NFL career. Of this year's RBs the next best was Ryan Moats at 37%, followed by Shelton, Barber and Ronnie Brown.
