Is it true that Pendergasts family owns the farm that is near lot F at the Stadium?

I know they are some connections between the land out there and the Pendergast family

Was Clancy extended or is he currently a lame duck DC as I think he only had one year left on his deal?

I was following along with everything until now. I just don't have the faith in Clancy I probably should. Given what we know about Denny's tenure here, I am not sure Denny got his hands too far into Clancy's scheming and game-planning.

The Pdendergast family who own the land are not related to the DC although they do have the same last name.

Pretty sure it's the same family. if it's not a lot of writers have been reporting that incorrectly for years now.

Good hire on Haley! We'll just have to wait and see on Clancy. <crossing fingers>

From January 2004:

I don't know buckeye....based on this alone he probably has more credentials than Joe greene in coaching:

prior to that spent the previous four seasons as an assistant with Gregg Williams at the Tennessee Titans, including the last two as defensive backs coach…helped Tennessee finish as the NFL's #1 ranked pass defense and total defense in 2000 and also guided two All-Pro starters at each position in the Titans secondary

Actually would love to have him.......would have to be an improvement over "let's play our CB's 10 yards away every play" Marmie.

You gotta love the Cardinals.

His farm house is still there right next to Lot F.

It looks really out of place.

Yes it is true and ?
Pretend the Bidwills are George Bush. Then pretend that Clancy is the relative of one of Bush's biggest campaign donators and Clancy just got appointed judge of a Federal Court.

I'm all for retaining Clancy because what he is as a coach but, jeeeesh.

Yeah, it is just strange if no other candidates have been interviewed. I see a definite conflict of interest and hope it has nothing to do with his retention, though I think it probably is a factor.

When the news first came out that Graves and the ownership were retaining Pendy. The whole land deal crossed my mind. It would really be hard to make a sweet deal on some prime land if you piss off a family by firing and ruining a reputation.

Are we sure nobody else interviewed? I asked that on page 2 but nobody answered yet.

People are saying Whiz had plenty of time to hire someone else and didn't do they mean he interviewed others or just since he took the job he's had so many days to pick his staff and still chose CP?

Once you have the land, what difference does it make?

You need to remember that the Cards don't own the land or the building. The TSA does. The Cards just lease the property. As such, any deals made with the Pendergast family would have been made by the TSA.

So you are saying that if the Bidwills wanted to futher develop the lands around the tsa lands. They would not try to make a deal to purchase or lease the remaining Pendergrast farm lands from the Pendergrast's.

The TSA owns all the property in that area?

I don't recall any mention of anybody being interviewed for DC. Whiz did request permission to interview Keith Butler(LB coach) of the Steelers and was denied and also he requested to interview Wayne Nunnely(DL coach) of the Chargers but he got a raise out of it and stayed with the Chargers. I assume they were possible DC candidates.

The Bidwills have property in that area and are in the process of developing it and as I said, why would you need to be nice to anybody once the property was in your hands.

The TSA only owns the property that the stadium and parking lots are sitting on.

The 2000 NY Jets....where Wisenhut and Haley coached together...rather interesting information...info from Wikipedia below.......Parcells was running the show in NY at the time......so I assume he hired Whisenhut.....FYI

Legacy
Parcells' handpicked successor, Bill Belichick, resigned after one day on the job and ended up taking the head coaching job with the Patriots. The Jets would eventually receive a first round draft pick for Belichick's rights. After Belichick's departure, Parcells promoted longtime assistant Al Groh from linebacker coach to head coach for the 2000 season. The Jets won 6 of their first 7 games, capped by the biggest comeback in Monday Night Football history against the Dolphins. Down 30–7 entering the fourth quarter, the Jets exploded for 30 points in the last 15 minutes, and John Hall kicked the winning field goal in overtime. It came to be known as "The Monday Night Miracle". It was the highlight of the season, but they only won 3 of their last 9 games, finishing at 9–7 and out of the playoffs. Behind the scenes, the Jet players, because they felt overworked and fed up with Groh's militaristic style, staged a near-mutiny against their coach [1]. Groh resigned after his first season to coach the team at his alma mater, the University of Virginia. Parcells would also leave the organization after the 2000 season, to be replaced by Kansas City Chiefs executive Terry Bradway.

Although there may be conflict of interest, Pendergast has a good resume with lots of experience. How he was connected to Dennis Green, I'll never know.

Clancy started in Dallas under Switzer in 1996, coached under Gailey and Campo, and must have left when they cleaned house for Parcells. He spent a year in Cleveland working under Butch Davis (2003) before working for Denny in 2004, 2005, and 2006.

After a year with the Oilers, he joined the Dallas Cowboys, where he spent seven seasons, first as defensive assistant/quality control/linebackerscoach (1996-99), and later handing responsibilities in nickel defense packages (2000) and the secondary(2001-02). Pendergast helped develop first-round draft pick Roy Williams into a Pro Bowl safety. In 2003, he was linebackers coach with the Cleveland Browns.

Cardinals coach returning 'home' to new stadium

The Business Journal of Phoenix - July 31, 2006

When the Arizona Cardinals play their first football game in the new stadium Aug. 12, it will be a homecoming for Defensive Coordinator Clancy Pendergast. Literally!

Much of the land he grew up on now is home to the team's stadium in Glendale. Pendergast's father sold some of his farm land for the stadium's development in the area around 91st Avenue, south of Glendale Road, and still lives next door in the house he built in 1952.

That's the house that Pendergast lived in until he left for college at the University of Arizona in 1985.

"My father still has the dairy there too, and he still milks about 100 cows and farms various crops in that area," said Pendergast. This coincidence brings together his two great loves- football and farming, he said.
And although he grew up on the land, Pendergast said this is the first time football will be played there.

"I irrigated a lot of land, hoed some weeds and drove tractors out there, but never played football on that particular field," he said.

Pendergast has been with the Cardinals for three years and in the NFL for 12, previously with the Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Oilers.

The Arizona Cardinals begin training camp Monday in Flagstaff, before coming back to the Valley for their first pre-season game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He tried to interview a couple of other people, but was denied permission. LeBeau was re-signed. I think any of them would have been preferable to Clancy, but there wasn't anything else out there that KW saw that was better, so he kept Clancy.

We don't really know if he wanted them for DC though, we're all just guessing.

Because the Pendergast's will sell that land before too long that's why. Even if the Bidwill's don't buy it for themselves, they will have a high interest in who does purchase it. They will want it developed in a way that enhances their profits, and doesn't compete with their chunk of the development pie. Pissing off the Pendergasts would not be smart business.

I'd like to think that is all separate from the coaching decision.
