6th was the best we could get for wells? he could start on most teams.

That's because the Cards wait until a day before the shopping block. If the Cards trade him at the beginning of the preseason, they get a draft pick or two more IMO.

Actually, BigRedRage, it's pretty good considering Wells' salary (app $2.5M this year) and this late date.

My only concern is we need some players now...which is why I wanted Wells for Richardson.

A backup MLB woulda been nice but I guess we can get that next year

We do need some players, problem is at this juncture any player you get is going to take at least a month to get acclimated with the play book and find his role. Plus, this saves the coaches of having to cut someone, had they traded Wells for another player that's one more visit the Turk is going to have to make.

Based on past trades this year and past a for certian 6th round pick in next years draft is great value. Most other young, cheaper, and at this point in his career just as good but higher potential guys were traded for 2012 7th rounders, or conditional picks of 7th rounders only if they make the team.

This was a great value trade and one that would not have been any higher prior to preseason or beginning of the offseason before injuries and failed young players occured yet.

I agree factor in the $2.5 million salary and the chances of us getting better then a 6th would be almost non-existent. I really do hope its a sixth in next years though.

Next years draft could be a bit strange. Do a lot of underclassmen declare hoping to get signed by a team before the new CBA is signed which potentially cuts rookie pay, or do very few underclassmen declare for fear of a lockout.

And from a teams perspective, giving up a draft pick right now may be less frightening since there is uncertainty about the future. I could see some teams thinking it's better to cash in all chips for a run this season, than plan for the future and risk having a very different team after a potential lock-out.

I agree that i would've liked to have Brown given another year but he had looked really insignificant all year and as on OLB trying to make the team after a full year out you really have to be in more significant plays and you're pass rush has to be noticable.

Looks like Komar made the team!

Which might be the end of Wright actually. Komar on ST's and the guy we traded for fromt he Eagles who runs with more power and can also play some FB probably better then Wright did last year and Wright MIGHT be on the way out. Pure speculation on my part.

Actually I think Wright is safe...but seeing as Whiz is showing little regard for keeping recent draft picks...maybe they waive Roberts.

The thinking could be, hey we got two better players in Williams and Komar, anyway.

It would be shocking if Charles Scott makes it. He didn't look very good at all last night (he's slow and instead of using his power to bull over people he stands up on contact and allows himself to get drive backward), and it was disappointing to realize they gave up Calvin to get him. Calvin has a much better chance of evolving into a decent NFL player.
