The failed physical designation is just dotting the i's and crossing the t's. Chris Canty also was released with that nomenclature.

Injury settlements are based on predicted length of time needed to recover from the injury paid in game checks. Being out for the year, Darnell was placed on IR and received 16 game checks. He has been paid his injury settlement. So they can release him as an injured player.

It's natural to blame the teams when we see a beloved veteran get cast aside, but it is the system that is to blame. The players who are going to get paid with the money freed up by releasing Dockett are just as culpable as the team. And when Darnell got paid, he was responsible for somebody else being shown the door.

THIS !!!!

Eventually Father-Time shows every player the EXIT DOOR !!!!!!

Yes it does. I should have clarified my point. I do think he will pass his physical but the timing is the issue here because going into free agency coming off an ACL he is in a terrible position to go out and test the upper end of his market. If he had a few more months before the new season year things would be much more in his favor.

That was the case before the failed physical. You have no idea what number Dockett is willing to accept two days ago or today.

True but my guess is he is still thinking he is worthy of some decent $$ because he is saying he will be come back player of the year. I think it will take him a little time to settle on a realistic number but you are right we don't know.

I hope Chargers sign him. I know he's trash play wise but we can use his leadership and experience on the young D line that we have.

Let the market set his price, and if someone wants to pay him more than we are, then fine.

Sucks, but it was the right move.

Somers reported that Cards offered Dockett 2.5M for one year with potential to make $4M with incentives/performance bonus etc.
