Well, your opinion is pretty meaningless. Especially since you're basing it on 92 career carries. Or maybe his 7 red zone rushing attempts last season. I don't know. But "hoping" isn't probably a big part of Denny Green's goalline philosophy.

But his 1 carry for 2 yards and a first down last season on fourth downs is a pretty good sign. :sarcasm:

At least you're not insisting Hodgins can do the job.

Actually, I based it on Femi's 3 goalline TDs against Hambrick's 0 TDs...

I love your linear logic BTW.

Femi hasn't been used as a goalline runner in Baltimore, hence he must be terrible at it. I guess there's no room for improvement, player development or changing roles in your philosophy. Does that mean that we should cut Griffith right now? He's never played FS before, so he obviously can't play FS... :sarcasm:

How about the rookies? They never played a down in the NFL - Should we cut them?

I understand that you hate Shipp, but for you to say one of these guys could take his place "like that" is really out of whack. Unless Shipp has some serious problems with his injury, neither of these guys will beat him out of a job.

Why? James Jackson has scored 3 TDs since Marcel Shipp last scored one. He averaged 6.8 YPC in 2004 behind a pretty awful Cleveland offensive line. He's a Miami player, which many here might not care about, but you know Denny has to like. Oh, and he didn't have a debilitating ankle/foot injury last season.

J.R. Redmond average 5.7 YPC last season in Oakland and is a far superior threat out of the backfield than Shipp.

Also, both of them will come at about 1/4 of the cost of Marcel Shipp, who hasn't scored a touchdown in two seasons and averaged 3.6 YPC in the last season he did play, which was before an ugly, ugly ankle/foot injury.

And I don't hate Marcel Shipp, I just think that the Arizona Cardinals could do far, far better.

Femi scored TDs of 4 and 1 yards at San Francisco when the Cards were down by 25 and 18 points, respectively. He also scored in Buffalo on a 4 YD TD run.

Maybe that's enough for you to put the bank on him and his 6'2", 231 lbs frame to be the Cards man on the goalline next season. I'll take Hambrick, who was 15 for 105 on third downs (7.0 YPC average last season) with a TD and 8 first downs. In limited time.

"Hope" is not a plan.

But you're right, I'm totally saying that we should cut all the rookies. You got me there, big guy.

James Jackson is a University of Miami alum. His famous quote when he was still on the Browns was that he declared himself "the next Edgerrin James". That didn't really work out too well for him......

Marcell Shipp missed all of last year so his stats are for only 3 years:

416 Attempts and 1664 yards for a 4 YPC average.
68 passes caught for 597 yards and a 8.8 average

In 5 full seasons Redmond has:

194 attempts for 674 yards and a 3.5 YPC
68 passes caught for 502 yards and a 7.7 average

In 5 full seasons Jackson has:

321 attempts for 1071 yards for a 3.3 YPC
30 passes caught for 201 yards and a 6.6 average

Shipp has a lot more experience and has done more in less time. As I stated before, these guys are not going to replace him.

Hmmmm, did we forget that Shipp didn't play at all last year and the year before that, every time we got anywhere close to the goal line they gave the ball to Emmitt Smith?

Don't be too quick to count Shipp out.

He is the best veteran RB we have, JJ may be good, but I think Shipp will lead this season.

He should be back from his injury.

How about a little love for this cinderalla story; Shipp deserves his carries if he is physically healed. I was really looking forward to see how he was going to do in 2004,

I agree. He is gunna be an important part of the team. Arrington is the favorite with speed, but Shipp is a very solid RB. "Tug boat, Errr, Errrrrr!"

It will be a shock if any of these guys replace Shipp unless something drastic happens in training camp. Someone is smoking something to think it is gonna happen...

K9 you're wrong man, just wrong!

I myself have bashed Shipp in the past becuase I really dont think he is starting material, like a lot of people here drinking the kool aid think.

But to think that JR Redmond or Jackson is better then him or here to replace him(barring injury of course) is just pure crazy talk.

They are both here becuase Shipp does have injury worries there is no way around it. Croom, Scobey, Anderson, and any other undrafted FA on the team suck. And Hambrick is a complete unknown if he will even show up to camp in Shape and not get cut.

K9, think about what you're saying. If we cut Shipp and JJ doesn't work out then we have James Jackson and Redmond grinding it out and striking fear into the hearts of opposing coordinators

IMO These new guys are camp fodder first with a chance to catch on if they can take the pounding. I have a feeling that our D front seven is going to see fresh legs every day in camp until they can prove that they can stop the run

On 12 carries, one of which was for 38 yards.

Jackson also averaged 3.7 yards per reception more than Shipp did last season.

I don't think it's a stretch to suggest these guys will beat out Scobey, Croom and Anderson.

Since none of you have found it important enough to mention anything other than the RB's, I'll point out the fact that I like the idea of getting Eric Johnson. Why? Well, a couple of reasons really. One, speed. EJ has some wheels. He isn't what we are looking for in an every down defensive player, but he is fast and can be situational or solid on ST. Two, the guy is a former Husker....that's right, a Husker. Not one of those lame, girly Huskers.....like Eric Crouch. EJ was a 4 year letterman, played LB at 215 lbs, and has a National Championship ring. And if your looking for some additional ammo, he did stick with the Raiders, which means he couldn't be a *****. He did get some time with the Falcons, who have one of those fast, young defenses.

He may be gone before camp, but he's fast and hits like a linebacker in a DB's body.

You're right, he was overlooked on this thread. He did play every game for the Falcons last year. Sounds like he might be a good special teams player.

What is going on with this organization? Everytime they make a move it is a good one. I CANT THINK OF ONE SCREW UP IN THE LAST TWO YEARS. We have officially arrived.( Do you now see why I am not worried about Boldin)? It is simply a show of respect for management. CUZ I AM OOOOOOOOOZING WITH CONFIDENCE THAT THEY ARE GOING TO MAKE THE RIGHT BUSINESS DECISION.

Theory About RB Roster Glut

I realize this is wild speculation, but I think the Cardinals will spend a lot of time in Camp this year emphasizing (a) defending against the run and (b) juicing up the running attack.

Our run offense (under Rowan) will be squaring off in drills vs. Clancy's run defense like never before. I think the scrimmage battles will be intense and are likely to chew up our RB's like popcorn.

Perhaps this is a reason for our loading up on so many (arguably) backup-caliber RB's.

Good observation. It makes sense. The "D" needs to be more consistent in stopping the run, and why chew up J.J. and Shipp for that purpose. Signing a boatload of running backs spreads the duty.

Has it corssed any ones mind that these RB's arent just insurance for Shipp but Arrington as well? Everyone here talks as if he is gonna rush for 1500+ but lets face it, we have no idea what he will do.

Fact is, maybe Denny, after mini camps , isnt sold on Arrington as much as we would like.....
