Paraphrasing Warren Buffett: " There are no called strikes in (the draft)". Meaning, you can only strike out if you swing and miss.

What's wrong with Dysert playing under the wing of Palmer/Stanton? Why not work with him to be the QB of the future?
How much attention and practice snaps does a 3rd string clipboard carrier get?

Yeah, he's a clipboard qb during games but he is always throwing to someone in practice.

No I don't believe that is the case.

It is my understanding that Stanton barely even gets reps in practice except for Weds when Palmer sits and that the third QB basically gets none after preseason unless running the scout team.

They utilize 2 fields during training camp so everyone gets reps. I don't know why they don't do this during the regular season though.

They have 90 players during for most of TC but only 53 during the season. Not enough players to run two practice fields plus they try to not burn out players during the season with practices.

We have Palmer this season, and maybe next. At least. We have a great RB, and a solid defense for years to come. We're going to be ok.

I would like to run dj to become less qb dependent - before Palmer retires- but BA will not - if he gets 30 touches - most will be passes - which is great but it doesn't for the defense into run defense and open up play action

Extending the "gets no reps" logic (& ignoring "Wed. is Rookie Rep, Day") - No rookie or backup would ever get a shot at starting, so why bother?

I like buying into the idea that - given where we are as a franchise, with a veteran starter and a seasond backup with one more year's worth of gas in their respective tanks - we can afford to buy time on a QBOF by sticking with Palmer, Stanton plus another veteran (possibly Gabbert) for a year.

It may mean "winging it" (& no one is totally comfortable not being in control of how things will unffold in the future) but it sure beats making a wrong decision on a highly-paid rook.

I don't think any of the QBs this draft are all that special. It depends so much on the system they are drafted in and if it "clicks" with them and the HC/OC. For instance, if a kid gets stuck with a Jeff Fisher type coach, he's doomed.
Jeff Fisher and QBs...lol That guy would still have been known as 50/50 with Joe Montana as his QB.

I know Keim is doing a lot of damage control with he didn't feel comfortable taking a QB early because he doesn't force picks and that 2018 is now their focus for a QB. But FA and trades aren't going to present a lot of options because no team is going to let a franchise or even above average QB hit FA nor will they deal away a starting caliber player unless they have a replacement and most teams won't. ARZ is going to have to draft one and some mocks have us taking Lamar Jackson but I think ARZ may have to trade up if they fall outside the Top 15 because I think he, Rosen and Darnold will all be gone by then.

They will be scrambling next year for sure. SK&BA said the same thing last year that they didn't want to reach for a qb. Also next years college qb crop will ALWAYS be better. Many people on the this board continue to buy this BS.

Todd McShay did a mock for the 2018 draft & had the top 3 picks as QBs - Darnold, Josh Allen & Josh Rosen.

SB Nation's Dan Kadar did his 2018 mock & had the top 3 picks as QBs - Darnold, Josh Rosen, Josh Allen & then Oklahoma State’s Mason Rudolph(8th), Louisville’s Lamar Jackson (11th) and Washington State’s Luke Falk (24th) as first-round picks.

A lot can change in a year, but it says a lot about the expectations of the next QB class.

Cards talking with Blaine Gabbert, allegedly. He would be a good pickup. Same age as Dysert, 5 years younger than Stanton, with hella more talent and experience than either. Terry McDonough was in Jacksonville for his time there, so he should know all about Gabbert. Blaine is younger than Kurt Warner was when he came to AZ. Way younger than Palmer was.

Agree with the post on all accounts -- for comparison sake, here's a way-too-early 2017 mock that I found. Watson was projected #1 (that was the prevailing wisdom at this time) and Mason Rudolph was the only other 1st round projection (now a 1st round projection in 18). At the end of the day, the biggest takeaway you can make is that 2017 was not seen as a great QB class coming in (and most thought it wasn't at the end), while 2018 is seen as a great QB class coming in.

I was the official Patrick Mahomes to Arizona leader, and eveb I understood why the Cardinals would pass.

The team wants to take another shot at winning the Super Bowl, while creating really goid flexibility for the future.

But wasn't Watson supposed to be better than Goff and Wentz a year ago? I don't think predictions are worth a crap, even after the players are drafted. I'd actually feel better if they signed Gabbert. If you look back at his draft profile, it's way more impressive than any of the guys in this year's class or last. Not sure about 2018, but Gabbert had the rarest blend of size, athletic ability, arm strength, and intellect. Plus he has a textbok release, probably the quickest in the league.
