I think RayRay might have panned out better if he was used as a WILB.

JMHO
I can't help but wonder if we were to have a staff like the current one with "talent" (some of those guys deserve quotes durn it) like Ray's generation.
Lower ceilings, better play or were they maxed?

Wow, I first read the title and thought that a team wanted DW and was willing to give the Cards a draft pick for him this year. Scary moment there.

No way. Look at the guy. Looks 225 tops. Boo!!!

Not gonna get yo mind right and gain 20+ lbs in 3 months. We need a guy who can play now. JMO.

I'm worried that our scouting staff has no idea what they're looking for when it comes to linebackers.

I'm just not a fan of trading up for Washington as an ILB. Most have him listed as an OLB because of his size. Ive watched him play for 2 years here in TX & i'm worried about him getting abused in the run game.

I don't understand why everybody loves this guy so much...That is a Tampa 2 LB I'm looking at.

Ouch. I think Washington is a good player but we gave up too much for him when it looks like the likes of Sean Lee and Jamar Chaney are there in the second and possibly third. I personally was higher on both of these guys but if the rest of the draft goes well i can handle it.I just think we handicapped how we do in the rest of the draft by going for this trade and giving up a valuable third round pick.
soooo.... you guys still mad?
K9 I couldnt agree more!!! Ive watched every TCU game for 2 years here in Dallas. The kid has skills & athleticism but will absolutely get destroyed at the point of attack. All the Dansby bashers will beg to have him back after this selection.

A complete reach to move up 11 spots & give up a 3rd Rd pick!!! People will be begging we paid #58 his $$$

Let me predict this:

Brandon Spikes will be a much better NFL LB'er than Daryl Washington even though they play 2 differant positions.

Pro Bowls: Spikes-5
Washington-0
still think that?

this thread is awesome. Lotta DWASH skeptics on draft day. Glad the team did what the scouts wanted and not this board. He has proven to be the 1st round talent they initially had him evaluated at. And then some. Unquestionably our best player from this draft, regardless of draft position

This is nothing compared to what was being said in the Suns section when Steve Nash was signed as a free agent from Dallas. You've never seen a future MVP get so much grief from the fans of the team that signed him.

lol, my bad. I couldn't tell when there was so much real hate for the guy

I was just kidding. I am pretty sure I changed my mind after watching tape on him. I may have even argued with K9 on him.

Funny thing is I usually like most Card draft picks. :)

I'm not going to go back over the thread, but I know I was steaming mad about this. I wanted us to not trade up and take Sean Lee. Washington has been awesome and I'm glad we have him, but it's nice to know I wasn't crazy--Lee has been great too :)

Cause we traded Boldin and used the pick to trade up.
Don't recall any of the posts on this thread mentioning anything about Boldin. Not saying it didn't happen, but I don't remember it and I don't feel like looking through all the posts again either.

That's kind of my POV. I guess the chest-thumping on Washington is all nice and fun, but 2010 was a banner year for linebackers; it almost would've been hard to find a guy who wasn't going to be able to contribute.

Linebackers from the class of 2010: Rolando McClain, Brandon Graham, Sean Weatherspoon, Jerry Hughes, Koa Misi, Sergio Kindle, Daryl Washington, Jason Worilds, Jermaine Cunningham, Sean Lee, Brandon Spikes, Pat Angerer, Donald Butler, Navorro Bowman.

Bowman was taken some 50 spots after Washington, and out numbers him in Pro Bowl appearances 2-0 right now. Sean Lee was on pace for a Pro Bowl year before he went on IR.

Washington has surpassed my expectations for him and has managed to put on weight. But he wasn't able to make many plays over the last quarter of this season, and continued to struggle at the point of attack.

Washington's case has been helped immensely by Paris Lenon's ability to surpass expectations and be effective holding at the point of attack.

All Pro for Washington. He'll save children, but not the British children.

soooo.... you guys still mad?

still think that?

Uhm, I cant speak for others but isolating one quote (and might i add, one quote where I clearly explained that I think he was a good player even when he weighed 225lbs) is entirely unfair.

i'm not sure how closely you followed that draft but of the top of my head I think Mitch and Me a couple of others were the biggest supporters of Daryl leading up to the draft.

There are about 100 quotes i made about D-Wash but ill just post a few here to give you a flavor of what I thought of him.

April 22nd 2010, Two days before the draft
This Washington hunch you've got has you pretty spooked hasnt it? I dont know why you're getting all worked up about Daryl Washington, the guy is a very good player at his position. Sure he doesnt have the physical stature you'd want somebody to play at that position but it hasnt hampered him greatly in the past. The guy is an excellent performer at what he does and i have no doubt to believe he has both the capacity and the motivation to add 10-15lbs or with our strength and conditioning team.

April 22nd 2010, Two days before the draft
I like both Lee & Washington and have been one of their biggest supporters around here but even i would have to admit that it'd be a bit of a reach taking them at #26. If either of these guys are the best players remaining that we'd want in the first i would expect them to be available in the early part of the second and therefore would hope we'd trade down to those spots.

April 25th 2010, day after the draft
-Im very happy with the Williams and Washington pick as we addressed our two greatest needs so i would give that part of the draft an A.

May 11 2010, About two weeks after the draft
I still think Washington will turn out to be a very good WILB

As you can see the only question I had about Daryl was his weight and that was a legitimate question as he weighed about 225 around draft time.

Should I eat some crow? a little because I thought we didnt need to trade up to get him but Daryl he has since proven he is a top 10 type draft pick and we did exceptionally well to get him where we did, but in reality nobody could've foreseen that.

The only poster who should eat plenty of crow about D-Wash is Kerouac 9 who continued to call him a poor player even a season into his Cardinal career when everybody else could see the signs of a top player. To be fair to K9 he has admitted that his assessment about him was essentially way off the mark.

I've been fighting you on this all week and I wil continue to. You are going to be soooo wrong on this and I bet everyone will know by Game 6.

This was the most insitinctive ILB outside of McClain and he WILL put on 20 more lbs by 2011 when he will starting game 1.

If you would like to make it interesting let me know the terms. I have been on this guy from the beginning and am elated he was the pick. I would have been okay with him in Round 1. I couldn't have asked for a better realistic 1-2 combo.

lol, it's all good man. I'm just screwing around about it. Regardless of being skeptical about him at draft time, he's proven to be a beast that (unless I'm overlooking something huge) everybody is extremely happy to have in a Cardinals uniform. And I have zero doubt that he will step onto the field opening day with a well-deserved "C" on his jersey

Yep I was wrong about Dwash...thought he would be a good player, but never great.

I've been wrong now 3 times in my life...once when I got married, twice when I thought Leinart would win the Cards numerous SBs:bang: & #58;)

Btw Brandon DWash was getting killed in the run game the back 1/2 of the year, along with everyone else :D lol

Oh come on... you cant pimp Bowman and say that Paris Lenon covers for a lot of Washington's supposed shortcomings while ignoring that Bowman is playing along side arguably the best middle linebacker in the league. And he has a DT like Smith who opens up huge holes.

Washington is regularly the first player to break up the blocking scheme at the point of attack on our defense. If anything Lenon's seeming improvement is because he is benefiting hugely from having a stud LB next to him wrecking plays.
