Warner only ever hung onto the ball with NY. Remember with the rams he was snap and throw.

Look at the wr's at the rams and NY and youll understand why. We have much better wr's than NY.

He will not have aproblem hanging on. Because unlike Josh Warner can see open receivers.

Obviously, you didn't watch Warner cough up the ball time after time in his final stint with the Rams... or you chose to ignore this to make your usual, tired - anti Josh rant...

Yes, Warner lost 3 fumbles in 2 games in 2002, but in one of them he hada concussion, and didn't start the rest of the year. Last year he only lost 4 fumbles, despite some of the worst protection in the league. But of course, then the criticism was holding onto the ball for too long. In actuality, he's a bit of an anomaly these last couple of years. A good case can be made for saying he's lost it, but he's had too much success to simply write him off.

Sure he did. All qb's do time to time. You sir must be forgetting their superbowl runs and his quick fire reads and release. Your usual pro josh rant.

Just for the record...

Warner coughs up the ball once for every 40 pass attempts.

McCown 1/25
Vick 1/27
Culpepper 1/31
Warner 1/40
Tom Brady 1/47
Brian Griese 1/52
McNabb 1/56
Jeff Garcia 1/63
Brad Johnson 1/71
P.Manning 1/102
Rothlisberger 1/147

True but compute that number in recent years. Warner has fumbled once every 19 pass attempts the last 2 years, once every 23 last year and once every 11 the year before.

I'm a huge Warner fan but his best days are behind him and I fear he's almost become punchdrunk in that he seems to go down way too easily and fumble way too often as if something's not quite right with him.

That said he can still get the ball to the open WR, even last year 63% in a bad situation where everyone was just waiting for him to fail so they could start Eli.

No doubt about it.

The risk with Warner is getting sacked/fumbling. Without that risk, he wouldn't be close to being available. It's a gamble.

At this point our choices are:

Name McCown the starter and live or die on his development.
Draft another rookie and have 3 inexperienced QB's.
Sign a veteran...and all available veterans have a downside.

Brad Johnson - Age, Arm Strength
Warner - Sacks/Fumbles
Garcia - System QB, Arm Strength, Size

All three of these guys have had success. Two SB winners and a SB MVP.

That would cost you a jersey my friend. :D
It would be worth it....because I have long coveted Warner as our Qb. The thing is Josh only has to start 8 games for me to get the Jersey. I am not sure Warner would make it 5 starts with out a concussion. I would like my chances :D

This is the first chance I've had to voice my opinion on the Kurt Warner issue as I just got done vomiting from hearing the rumor. The idea of rooting for Warner conjures bile in my throat every time. Even if he has anything left in the tank, and I'm convinced he does NOT, then he is still a very temporary solution. I don't think McCown is the answer either. It is becoming quite clear that we should probably take a gamble on a QB in the early rounds. I would rather be mediocre next year and win several years in row than win next year and face the same QB dilemma after next season. That is of course unless winning = Super Bowl, but I feel that this team is still a year or two away from championship caliber. Why not draft a young guy and let him study a year or two under a veteran via FA? (preferably not Warner :D )

Is there a FA QB who's best days are not behind him? That is why they are FA's and why we will find our long term solution at QB in the draft if we ever decided QB is a real problem.

Until we solve our QB problem we do not even have a championship in sight looking though the Hubble Telescope.

This year, that's true. But, it's not always the case. Often teams can't afford to sign a guy that still has plenty of game left in him because of cap reasons combined with an up-and-comer on the bench behind him.

I am just looking forward to Brenda Warner calling into local sports radio shows once Denny benches him for Navarre! :D
