Come on guys, I don't expect anything from the "Matt Barkley" era, but its a 7th round pick. Who cares? After last year's QB apocalypse I like the team giving themselves more options.

If he takes LTs spot then there is a problem. If he is put on the PS, if he can be, that still sucks if there was a chance to get Sims on the PS. There is nothing good coming from this trade that I can see.

Didn't see this coming at all. There will be better QBs on waivers in 2 days

How quickly we all forget, 2013 was only two years ago:

The minute I heard Barkley was available AZ was the 1st place I thought of to be honest.

Did Phillip Sims have that much better of an arm ?

I mean, its the 3rd sting QB, not a big deal.

He's better than Lindley, I didn't see the game last night no idea if he's better than Sims or Thomas.

I don't think he ever got his arm strength back after injuries in college. Coming into USC he had a decent arm, not a gun, but a decent arm, by the time he left USC he'd lost some zip.

Really? We are going to freak about a conditional 7th rounder? My guess is we have some trades of our own bringing a pick or picks back to us as well. Calm yourselves.

Doesn't hurt is at all though. If he sucks then we cut him (in less than 6 games) and don't lose the pick. I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

I think this definitely puts to rest the talk of only carrying 2 QB's on the active roster.

I don't mind this move, I thought we might even pick him up if they kept Tebow... off waivers/outright FA.

If we traded for him, it means we thought someone else would pick him up before us.

It's a 3rd QB, and while LT showed a little bit yesterday, I'm not sold on him. Other then the bomb he was mostly a deer in the headlights or checkdown passer or middle of the field TE throw.

It is very conceivable he ends up better then LT, or he sucks... either way we have time to see if he fits in practice and if we keep him he only costs us a 7th round pick.

Here are his college stats

http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/15948/type/college/matt-barkley

116 TD's and 48 INT's during his 4 years as starter.

We could get this guy, or maybe Cassell or Manuel. Maybe someone else slips through. We'll see.

It's still possible we cut him if someone we like better gets cut and we can sign him. Probably won't happen, but if we just turn around and cut him, he cost us nothing.

Plus LT is still PS eligible if people still want him.

His arm isn't as strong as it used to be, but our 3rd QB's suck anyways so what's it matter? Might as well try to see if this guy sucks.

It is very possible that Matt Barkley is a lot better than Thomas or Sims and you know what, I will stand by this despite being lost in a soup full of people shouting noodle arm lol

I called this three days ago to Wendy except said we would pick him up off waivers. We have liked him for a long time.

I just don't like the time and roster spot wasted on another QB when there are other needs.

The thing with Barkley is aside from the surfer boy USC dude stuff, he's a bright guy. He won't be overwhelmed. If you get stuck later in the year playing your #3QB you won't have to limit him to 30% of the playbook like you might with Sims or Thomas. He's played a ton of QB, he's been groomed to be a QB since he was a kid, private coaches etc.

I don't think he'll ever be a starter, but in an emergency he probably won't just fall apart.

The question really becomes upside, if they still think Thomas has it at QB they will keep him, if they think Sims has it they will keep him.

He had a bad preseason, much worse than Thomas or Sims did, so it's interesting we still have interest.

Yay, we traded for a guy that beat out by Tim Tebow!!!

But really, it's a third string QB that we're talking about. If he sucks then we cut him and don't lose a pick. Also shows there is a real lack of faith in either Sims or LT at QB.

Yeah but, maybe if we had Barkley for the playoff game last year, things might have been different. (or any other 3rd QB better then Lindley)

Yeah right now at the beginning of the season we have guys we don't want to cut...

But come the end of the season, I really want us to try to have a competent 3rd QB. Maybe he isn't, but like last year, needing a 3rd QB at the end of a season vastly outweighs keeping the 53rd man we'd probably churn over anyways.

Neither Stanton nor LT are accurate passers. in the NFL, I'll take a high percentage passer with an average arm over a 50 something % passer with a gun for an arm. It appears that BA was impressed with Barkley during the 2013 draft. I'm not losing any sleep over possibly losing a 7th round pick. Let the QB whisperer do his thing.

*No way Stanton is getting moved.

*Conditional seventh rounder means we're getting him for free.

*My question, do we also keep LT? I think we do and it becomes a battle between LT and Barkley. But that's just a guess.

I suspect they're either going to keep 4 QBs (doubtful) or Logan Thomas is getting sent to the practice squad, at least for the first 6 weeks.

Also, if Palmer goes down Stanton is probably going to have to show more than he did last year to keep these other guys from getting a look.
