Because they have asked him to hit more home runs his average is down, additionally, it has caused him to strike out more, trying to pull the ball. If they had a real #3 his bat would be best at #2, where he would hit in the .300's.

#3 should be your best hitter.

Curt Schilling pitched well here and he lead the league in HR allowed.

You think Zito would whine constantly about the roof being open?

Someone said in another thread that the DBacks are planning on playing CQ the next 7 games - at least.

I wonder if it is to showcase him?

I'd be extremely pissed if the D-Backs traded him at this point.

I don't think that they are showcasing him. I think it is more that they want to make sure that he is capable of taking over in the bigs if they pull the trigger on a deal to ship out Gonzo or Green.

His stock should be through the roof right now
Yep, Quentin for Santana OR Liriano. Get'r done! :D He has been great though. I saw his home run last night when I went out for dinner. 3 home runs in 3 starts, the kid is amazing!

He also never walked anybody, so he was for the most part only giving up solo shots. Zito's ability to ealk guys and give up HRs would be a disaster at Chase Field.

I've been thinking recently that maybe the 5 hole would be the ideal spot for Tracy in a perfect world. I'd like a bit more speed at the 2 spot (maybe Drew someday?). Tracy can hit for a high average, hit for doubles and some power, so I think the 5 hole protecting a slugger (if we ever get one of those) would be ideal.

He also left 5 men on base. Don't get to excited about 3 games.

I'm not sayin he won't be great just that its too early to go overboard.

A couple of years ago the Dbacks had a player that came up (real big guy) and hit like 5 homers in his first week, now I can't even remember his name. Durazo got off to a pretty fast start too.

Alex Cabarrera, he also his 50 homers in Japan a few years in a row. I think he had roidrage issues and that is why he went to Japan.

I think he had problems hitting once pitchers got a scouting report on him. Reminded me of the guy in Major League who couldn't hit a curve.

Wrote about Quentin in my recent blog today. Just kind of sums up my opinions on this kid and his PT. (Basically what everyone here thinks of him too)

Phill's Blog said:
First at-bat, first pitch... home run. Typical Carlos Quentin.

In Today's game versus the Astros, Quentin came off the bench at hit his fourth home run of the season. Quentin also got his eigth and ninth RBI's.

In limited action, thanks to Bob Melvin's veteran first approach (to be explained later) Carlos Quentin has yet to start on a consistent basis.

In Quentin's first week of his soon to be great Major League Career Quentin has 6 hits in his first 16 at bats. Four home runs and two doubles. He also has a 2:1 strike out to walk ratio (which should improve in consistent playing time). Currently he has 4 K's and 2 walks.

Bob Melvin, the Diamondbacks manager, has shown that he is a veterans manager. He played Conor Jackson in limited time last year with Tony Clark. Stephen Drew has gotten playing time at short only because he is their only option. Counsell is on the disabled list and was the only natural shortstop on the team.

But Melvin also is in a tough situation. He has one outfielder deserving of time in Eric Byrnes and then has Shawn Green. Green's power numbers have declined drastically but his average continues to hover near the .300 mark.

Then there is Mr. Franchise. Luis Gonzalez has been the face of the Diamondbacks lineup since 1999 when he was traded to the Diamondbacks and emerged as a one of the games top 15 outfielder in the National League. Last year Gonzalez struggled through surgery and injuries. This year he has been below average with a .286 batting average, 10 home runs and 48 RBI's.

Mr. Franchise literally cried to the media when Melvin sat him against a left hander (Gonzo struggles vs. LHP's) and choose to start Quentin instead.

So what does Melvin do? He will continue to play Quentin part time unless either Green or Gonzo are traded.

How will this affect Quentin? Well, I'm not quite sure. I think it harmed Conor Jackson's progress as he had to learn from the bench rather on the field. Quentin though is taking each at-bat with care and it may work out for him.

But either way, I want more Quentin. This kid needs to be in the lineup every day.

So how do you sit a potential 40 home run hitter? Especially in favor of aging veterans in Gonzo/Green.
