I heard this mentioned on Doug and Wolf this morning.

How exactly do you pass a physical when you're physically unable to play?

Do both teams just need to agree and acknowledge the injury to pull off a deal?

YOu do it because want to do the deal anyway. Carter is a cap throw in to this deal. Gortat and the pick were the main prizes.

At least it is not like Penny when every year we would hear I am ready to come back and be the player I was. Maybe we could move Carter in another trade maybe help the Nets get Melo out of the West and away from NY.

I'm not too upset about it. A) Dudley gets more action and his defense will help in the starting lineup B) Since he was a throw in I really don't care if he starts or sits. C) If the Suns are playing well w.o Carter they can always use him as a bench player upon his return. D) Carter will be a better player after the surgery than before most likely.

If Carter has surgery & is out for a month or more, who do you want to start at SG?

Jared Dudley
Mickael Pietrus
Josh Childress

I'd probably go with Pietrus... he's got a lot more speed & athleticism than Dudley and shoots the 3 just as well. Obviously it depends on who's playing well from game to game, but I can see a minutes breakdown similar to this:

PG: Nash 32 min, Dragic 16 min
SG: Pietrus 24 min, Dudley 6 min, Childress 8 min
SF: Hill 32 min, Dudley 12 min, Childress 4 min
PF: Frye 30 min, Warrick 18 min
C: Lopez 28 min, Gortat 20 min

How long before Siler gets cut? I doubt we keep 4 Cs on the roster & I'll be glad to see Barron buried on the bench.

LOL, I had a hunch something like this would happen. I've never liked Carter.

If he needs surgery then what's there to like or dislike about him? It's the right thing to do, I rather have a healed Carter than a hobbled Carter slowing down the Suns offense.

I trust the Suns medical staff. For instance, Carter might have had a condition the Magic staff were OK with him playing with. The Suns medical staff has a different approach. They might want to "clean" it up, rehab him correctly and get him out there then. The Suns medical staff know there stuff and they must have thought that it wasn't a big deal IMO.

Although Pietrus may have been a throw-in, he might end up helping the Suns like Dudley did in the JRich trade. However, I do know the Suns liked Dudley before the trade.

Well Carter wasn't going to be anything more than a 4 month rental anyways (unless he can still play & is willing to re-sign cheaply) and is now going to be a 3 month rental (plus maybe playoffs).

I still like the deal... getting rid of Turks contract & getting Pietrus/Gortat are positives. Are we a better team this season? We could be... Gortat is a big upgrade over Barron & Pietrus should be a big upgrade over what Turk was giving us. If Carter is healthy & giving us 14-18ppg then I think we're a better team, but if he can't play for 1+ months (or the rest of the season) then we're about the same or maybe a little worse.

Let's face it. The Suns team improved with the subtraction of Turkoglu alone. Gentry felt compelled to play him because of his large contact but he did not fill a role on the Suns team.

Undoubtedly this was a motivator for Orlando to move him since they are focused on the stretch run this year. Since his value is primarily due to his expiring contract, and this doesn't seem to be a surprise to the Suns, I am fine with it. He'll be back before the trade deadline and his value there likely isn't impacted.

Good. It might explain Carter's slow-footedness. Let him have his surgery and see if it makes a difference. Its not like we don't have enough wing players.

Dudley should start. He's done the work and he deserves it. Be loyal to the guy who has been loyal. Childress should also get alot of burn.

VC's injury is a blessing.

I hope Carter takes the surgery.

It help us defensively as Pietrus can start for him. Plus it would end the log jam at the wings position.

PG: Nash, Dragic
SG: Pietrus, Dudley
SF: Hill, Childress
PF: Gortat, Warrick, Lawal
C: Lopez, Frye, Barron

Fine with me. As long as he's ready to contribute into the playoffs and at the WCFs.

How great is our training staff?? 2 months in Orlando, then he comes here and is here for 6 hours and they catch this? Pretty awesome.

My thinking is that Vince will play 2 or 3 games to test it, then opt for the surgery.

Breaking News (but consider the source):

Gambo just tweeted that Carter does NOT need arthroscopic surgery but maybe just a scope--maybe miss a week or two.

I'll tell you, I do NOT like our chances in the finals against Boston without a healthy Vince Carter.

I think we'll be alright this year, but next year we'll lose to the Heat in the finals for sure without a healthy Carter.

I don't think so. By then, Childress's finger should finally be healed and we won't miss Vince as much.

I'm confused as to what the difference is (other than the supposed recuperation time).
