I'm confused as to what the difference is (other than the supposed recuperation time).

Me too, but that may be my fault--he didn't say "scope" -- I read that somewhere else, but he still said Carter would be out for a week--if he's not getting surgery, I'm not sure why he'd sit out except to rest it, but there's no indication of that anywhere else.

But Carter already said that he's playing Thursday....

PG: Nash 32 min, Dragic 16 min
SG: Pietrus 24 min, Dudley 6 min, Childress 8 min
SF: Hill 32 min, Dudley 12 min, Childress 4 min
PF: Frye 30 min, Warrick 18 min
C: Lopez 28 min, Gortat 20 min

How long before Siler gets cut? I doubt we keep 4 Cs on the roster & I'll be glad to see Barron buried on the bench.

Gortat is going to play way more than 20 minutes if he can stay out of foul trouble. I see it as a 3 man rotation at PF/C between Frye, Gortat, Lopez, with Warrick mopping up spot minutes.

I see Lopez and Gortat splitting minutes pretty evenly, from the start.

2nd sub

Gambo just tweeted that Carter does NOT need arthroscopic surgery but maybe just a scope--maybe miss a week or two.
Arthroscopic surgery = "a scope". That being said, 2-4 weeks is the usual recovery time for such a procedure, essentially to allow the area to recover from being poked and scraped.

Knowing Vince, he might take till April.

Just in time to gel with the other guys and score 20 a game down the stretch, play great in the playoffs, and land another solid contract with another team? Perfect. :)

The doctors today said that Carter won't need surgery. He'll probably sit out a few games to rest though.

Carter's knee has been swelling for quite some time. Of course I'm not a doctor but it often seems in these type cases players end up getting there knee scoped anyway. I would rather get the knee cleaned out now so the Suns can have his services later. I'm just thinking the procedure will still have to be performed before the season is over.

The thing I'm most looking forward to from Vince is his fat $17 million expiring contract.

From what I understand, even if we don't pick up the option $4 Million of it still counts against the cap next year so it's really just a.. surprise... 13 Million expiring, the same as JRich.

How great is our training staff?? 2 months in Orlando, then he comes here and is here for 6 hours and they catch this? Pretty awesome.

My thinking is that Vince will play 2 or 3 games to test it, then opt for the surgery.

Well apparently Vince notified the Magic on the day of the trade that he wanted an MRI. My guess is they were going to find it too....

One thing remains clear: While the Suns still have one eye on the prize, the other is focused squarely on the bottom line.
At least the first eye isn't shut tight anymore. ;)

If its a torn Miniscous (sp) you can play through that. It often heals faster on its own than it does with surgery.

I don't know... Our doctors are the best in the business and if they say he doesn't need to do it, then it's hard for us to say otherwise.

I'm thinking it will need to be done. Maybe the Suns doctors are just waiting for the swelling to go down. These things tend to not go away especially for an athlete. I think the inevitable is just being postponed. This injury has gone on for awhile. Like I say, I'm not doctor but if I were in Las Vegas I would consider a wager.

Agreed. I think we as sports fans sometimes forget that surgery is the last option. Having been through reconstructive right ankle surgery personally, when I tore ligaments in my left ankle a couple years later, I opted for intensive physical therapy in a last ditch effort to avoid surgery ... and it worked great. My left ankle, with physical therapy only, is now more stable than my surgically repaired and rehabbed right ankle. If the docs don't think surgery is necessary, it's probably because they believe therapy and rehab are the superior option.

I trust the Suns medical staff. Its the best thing about this team. BTW, living in Phoenix gives us all access to some of the best medical care in the world. I sure am thankful for that.
