Glad to see the Suns win but Cleveland is terrible. They are probably my least favorite team to watch in the NBA.

hmmm really? i think lebron is the most entertaining player out there right now when he's at his best. i watch game 5 against detroit from last year's playoffs all the time because he is just so good. Once they get varejao back, they'll be back in the swing in the east. i think they can win their division this year actually.

anyway, i can't be the only one here impressed by Grant Hill's defense, can i?

Yep, really. Whenever someone mentions how great Lebron is they always bring up game 5 against Detroit. That's the only game I can remember where he was actually as good and exciting as advertised. The rest of the team is just downright atrocious IMO and I can't stand watching them.

Edit: Lebron's a great player and all, but there are plenty of other superstars I'd rather watch and he's not exciting enough to make up for the rest of that terrible team.

tonight wasn't an exactly impressive showing for lebron but he did do pretty well. i think people bring up that game 5 because everyone knew he was good before then but they didn't know he could drop 29 out of the last 30 points over a team featuring defenders like tayshaun prince, chauncey billups, maxiell, and a lane packed with a couple good bigs. i watch a lot of cleveland games and i find him better than advertised a lot of the time. at age 22 his consistency can use some work, particularly on the outside shot, but is going to be one of the all time greats by the time he's done. i do agree though that other than daniel gibson the rest of cleveland is rather lackluster right now. I think detroit is done, however, and they will slack as the season goes along.

D'Antoni barely went 8 deep tonight with Banks having a measly 4 minutes. Pretty heavy minutes for the starters. Nash had 35, Bell 40, Marion 45, Diaw 35, and Hill 40. Skinner should have more than 12 minutes and Banks deserves a shot to get into the rhythm of the game.

i was looking for banks to come in too. he would be a good guy to match up with daniel gibson and if he could have shot consistently, he could have taken bell's place and bailed us out early on...

we just need to have Hill do his midrange game damages and Diaw with confidence. And keep the ball away from Bell if he is not hitting. we will be ok. but cavs really was not good.

Minutes were bound to be up by the starters with Amare out. In the long run I would like to see Bell with at least 10 minutes less time, Hill/Marion 10 minutes less time and those minutes going to Barbosa, Diaw and Skinner.

Hill's defense tonight was outstanding.

especially since it was on lebron james. he was active with his hands and created a couple steals and prevented some passes from going through. i noticed that when he squared up lebron on the perimeter, LBJ passed it away a lot rather than trying to attack off the dribble. if he can do that kind of thing against the spurs, we will be in good shape. hill guarding ginobili to take pressure off bell will be huge

I was thinking LeBron didnt want to flatten Hill most of the time hehe. Maybe Lebron respects him too much, afterall they do resemble each others game... except one is a power the other finesse, but both are 25/7/7 playmaking/scoring sfs... hehe

But yeah Hill's IQ on both ends is what makes him very good, and thats with about 50% his atheletic/physica abilities these days....

Actually, the clarinet is a reed instrument. The trumpet is brass, as you said.

Thanks.
Technically, the clarinet is a reeded instrument, but is also classically lumped in with all "woodwind" (saxes, oboes, flutes, etc) instruments, so either is probably okay.

And that game was great in the second half. The Cavs were pretty good on defense last season, and the Suns dropped 65 on them in the second half.

Ouchie,
the trumpet is a brass instrument. the clarinet is a wind instrument.

I'm no musician but obviously they are both wind instruments and I would guess in the subdivisions of wind instruments the clarinet is classified as a 'reed' instrument and the trumpet a 'brass'. Geez, we must have a musician in the group who can speak with authority.

Edit: Ooops I should have read the last few posts before jumping in but correcting the corrector of a corrector was just too much temptation.
I'm tempted right now to correct AzSportsFan because it seems wrong on the surface to classify a saxophone as a woodwind. I can imagine flutes retaining such a classification because I seem to recall they were once made out of wood, but saxophones? You'd have to hollow out a small tree...

I, too, was pleasantly surprised at how well Hill defended LaBron and during the game a couple of times I thought maybe 'Bron was not going at him as hard as he could have.

Skinner did okay in the game but a couple times he screwed up when his man set a screen - in trying to help he turned it into a double pick. All the years he's been in the league he's got to know thats a major 'no-no'...

I swear Diaw is teasing us - he's not passing out on his drives quite as quickly as before but more than once in the game last night I was sure he was committed to going to the bucket then at the very last instant he whipped a pass outside.

That super quick relay pass to Marion was a beauty though. It was funny, Gary Bender missed Boris' role in the play altogether and was raving about it being another of those Nash passes where you wonder how he did it. (Marjele must have been looking at another part of the floor because he didn't jump in to straighten him out as he usually does.)

What I didn't like about the game was that D'Antoni had Hill buried in the corner all game long. I'm sure the reason he's doing it is to give Grant easier 3's to shoot and he's figuring Bell can hit the harder ones out on top. Now that is seriously stupid coaching. Thank goodness Hill missed the only three he took and I believe that Bell missed all the ones he took on top, too - I recall his first hit was from the corner but I'm not so sure of the second... nah, it wasn't, it was almost straight on, I remember now because he hoisted a brick from the same location on the next possession.

4 different families of orchestral instruments

Percussion
WoodWind
Brass
Strings

Trumpet is brass
sax is woodwind
clarinet is woodwind
flute is woodwind

Some consider the saxophone to be a brasswind. However it is not in the brass family because it uses a reed and not a cup shaped mouthpiece, which all brass instruments possess. The majority of woodwind instruments use a reed or double reed to produce sound, but it is not a required trait. The flute is played by blowing air over a mouth piece. It used to be made of wood but is now cheaper to mass produce using metal.

Can we talk about basketball now?

I was at the game. Suns still didnt have the teamwork which made them so addictive to watch last season. Grant Hill was all over the place. You can tell he is excited to be here. Anyone who thinks he is horrible or was a bad pickup needs to be taken out back and put out of their misery.

Nash is shooting well but seems out it. His playmaking isnt where it needs to be.

The pick and roll was very lazy this game.

Diaw looked french as usual in the first half but really stepped it up in the 2nd. He even looked aggressive and impressive on defense.

The suns seem to be allergic to rebounding. My dad was flipping out all game at their lack of effort on the boards.

There was wayyyy too much slash-n-kickout ball being played, we need to be more aggressive in the paint, draw some fouls, and deliver to the rim.

Raja looked ugly on the court, it was hard to watch.

Marion rocked faces and Im actually excited to see him chuck 3 pointers up now instead of cringing and closing my eyes.

Barbosa has flashes of eliteness but very little consistency. You can tell he has improved his overall game and gained some confidence, and once he starts shooting like a monster again he will be a lock for 6th man award again.

Amare was in street clothes which projected the image of the worst expensive-to-taste ratio Ive seen in a while...

but who am i to criticize.

I was in the lexus club seats. Was really nice. Full bar, sushi, all you can eat buffet. Not familiar with how it all works in there but it seems more than half the people in there didnt have actual seats. There were couches and lounge areas in there, and they had a DJ, seemed like quite the social gathering. Most the people in that area were mid-late 20s. I went with my dad others so just enjoyed the game, but seems like the club area would be a nice place to go with some buddies for some upper class fun every once in a while.

Go Suns!

Raja needs to get his shot fixed, and Hill needs to drive to the hole more. Man that guy can still get to the basket and HE SHOULD! We missed Amare's presence which sucked as I went to the game and he was out, dammit! Anyway good win while not playing so well. Well Nash played well, but even he had a few TO's that made me shake my head

damnit, something in the back of my head was saying,"you're just off ouchie, you're just off . . . "

the corrector of the corrector stands corrected.
