4 different families of orchestral instruments

Percussion
WoodWind
Brass
Strings

Trumpet is brass
sax is woodwind
clarinet is woodwind
flute is woodwind

Some consider the saxophone to be a brasswind. However it is not in the brass family because it uses a reed and not a cup shaped mouthpiece, which all brass instruments possess. The majority of woodwind instruments use a reed or double reed to produce sound, but it is not a required trait. The flute is played by blowing air over a mouth piece. It used to be made of wood but is now cheaper to mass produce using metal.

Now wait just a minute... its true the corrector of the corrector was corrected incorrectly but that doesn't make him correct. The classification system that has a trumpet as 'brass', has a clarinet as a 'woodwind' not just a 'wind' instrument. Besides, what do musicians know... I mean, calling a sax a woodwind because it has a reed suggests they have misnamed the category.

What I didn't like about the game was that D'Antoni had Hill buried in the corner all game long. I'm sure the reason he's doing it is to give Grant easier 3's to shoot and he's figuring Bell can hit the harder ones out on top. Now that is seriously stupid coaching.

That's what I have been complaining about in the last 3 games. Bell had not shooting touch right now and having him on top of key instead of Hill is simply counter-productive. His drives and general decisions have bridged a couple of serious offensive draught periods so far. Hill has to touch the ball on offense more than that.

Hey guys. I'm the one who posted the response to this thread-within-a-thread . . . and am now confused as hell.

Let's just see the Suns make beautiful music together.

That's it. Let's invite D'Antoni to a symphony, so he can see that an orchestra is not all drums or horns or base or keyboard.

It's a combination of instruments large and small, harmonizing to produce great results, from the beginning to the end of the concert.

Y'know, like a Point Guard and Shooting Guard and Small Forward and Power Forward and Center, excellent from the start of the season to the end of the playoffs.

OK, so I'm dreaming.

All righty... since I'm really pathetic and obviously have too much time on my hands...

Any instrument you blow into = wind instrument

This further SUB-divides into:

1. Any instrument that makes noise because your lips vibrate = brass instrument
2. Any instrument that makes noise because a reed vibrates or air blowing across an edge vibrates = woodwind

These are historical classifications because brass instruments (i.e. category 1) have generally been made of brass, and woodwind instruments (i.e. category 2) have generally been made of wood.

It's only in this bold new modern era where we can have something made of brass actually use a reed to make noise (the saxophone). If you look at the reasoning above though, it makes sense that it's a woodwind.

The categories also make sense acoustically - the sax sounds more similar to other woodwinds than it does to brass instruments.
