Apparently CBS has jumped on the Gabbert bandwagon. Instead of a QB they have the Cards taking James Washington, the OK State WR. He’s the second receiver they see going. I actually have him atop my receiver list, though like my QB choice he doesn’t have ideal height. I must admit I’ve been surprised at how far Baker Mayfield has slid since his unfortunate display. I avoided reading other mocks when I was doing one. I tried to only read them after the draft. So I’m having fun watching players bounce around.

If they’re right the Cards’ strategy might well be to take a WR or O-lineman in round 1 then take a QB in round 2. Of course, CBS also doesn’t have Josh Allen in Round 1 which doesn’t match what I’m hearing. Anyway have fun with these. It will be fun to see how Gabbert’s performance continues to effect these.

I saw Mayfield going to us in the 2nd round in a recent mock. Crazy talk. If by any stretch a couple of guys fall out of the first day, there will be an overnight fistfight scramble to have the first pick or two in the second round to snatch them up.

Too early! I want a bigger body of work. He has always had the tools. Now the question is, can he overcome the bad habits of a string of useless OCs. The competition gets better now. Will his lack of support (the Cards really are much better than the lousy teams he’s played for) doom him to make the same mistakes that have dotted his past? Instead, is he an improved version? I don’t expect him to win any of the remaining games except the Giants game. Will he be part of the problem or a step towards a solution? He’s got a chance, but that’s all it is.

Most of the QB's are going in the 1st round.

The "draft gurus" have become pretty dated. The last two to three drafts have proven it. Most players have at least a 2 round +/- going on. There were "lock 1st round picks" that went in the 3rd round, and visa versa.

I do not think there is any questioning that the Cardinals have to go 1st round QB this season. It would be madness not to do it.

And, yes, this would be a "need" pick, and yes, it will be looked like a reach and desperation, but the organization have put themselves in this position.

More WR depth in this draft than QB’s. I wouldn’t chance hoping Mayfield makes it to 2nd Round. WR FA class is also potentially pretty good so ARZ could go that route. QB, CB, OT would be my first 3 picks with OT & CB being interchangeable.

re: james Washington

my one question about him: seems like suspect hands --- not the best on contested balls. speed, solid running back like build and explosion -- but it just seems like i have seen too many times where he fights the ball

Mayfield in the second? its early, but even in the days leading up to the 2017 draft, various mocks had the crop of "good but no sure fire QBs" sprinkled throughout the first..... and then they all go top 12

I would be happy with a top end WR in round one. Personally (and I've said it several times) I hope we move Buc to SS and draft an ILB as well, maybe round 2 or 3 with a QB prospect in the other. I really think Gabbert can be the answer and obviously DJ's return will make everyone look better and really open up the passing game. Sometimes we forget we have one of the top RB's in the game who our offense is really built around.....

I have been very pleasantly surprised by Gabbert's play and his talent. I have often wondered what a mobile QB could do for BA's offense and I think it has opened the offense up considerably and will continue to expand as BA finds added ways to use BG's mobility. Still think that drafting a QB in Round 1 or 2 is important, but Gabbert's potential in BA's offense is exciting. Were Carson Palmer to return, BA would have to change the protections...something he is loath to do. But, a sitting duck in this offense makes it a house of cards.

CP is washhhhhhheed. Even if he wanted to return I don't think you do it. I am of the opinion that its time to take a chance on a QB in round one. You simply cannot continue to put bandaids on the problem. We clearly need help in many areas but it starts with better QB play.

Also I am not a Baker M believer. He just screams bust and potential headcase to me.

BTW---I think Calvin Ridley (Bama), Christian Kirk (Texas A&M), Courtland Sutton (SMU) and Anthony Miller (Memphis) are more talented than James Washington (Oklahoma St.)...but Washington is very good.

Would love to snag Ridley...he's going to be a good player.

I love mock drafts.... but they generally suck for validity. These early mocks especially suck.

With so many teams QB starved it is hard to believe Mason Rudolph falls to the Patriots as the last pick of the 1st round.

It early yet so any mock draft has to taken with a grain of salt. It is also hard to predict trades, so it's possible their just thinking that Washington will be the BPA when the cards pick.

I must be looking at a different CBS mock... they have us taking Darnold at #9 here or they already changed it since this morning.

I've been saying this since day 1. I'd pass on the guy. James Washington is big time, he'd be a good pick!

I think it would be important for an experienced QB like CP to be there to mentor the new young franchise QB for the first year, unless Warner wants to take on the job.
