I'm starting to like the idea of the Cards taking him. For years there has been a clamoring for an everydown horse for the Cards to give the ball to. No one fits that mold better than Benson. Cadillac is more fragile. Ronnie Brown, while he has looked good in workouts, hasn't even been a true starter or main running threat. Benson reminds me of Shaun Alexander,a workhorse throughout college that ran a pedestrian 40 time and he's turned out to be alright. You can't get better production on the field than Benson provided and most of say that's the key barometer to judging talent.People are concerned about his number of carries but, to me, that shows durability instead of an injury concern. He's shown he can take a pounding and dish it out. The other guys haven't really shown anything close to that.

Now if we go CB,I think that Rogers could be a better pick than Rolle. He's about the same size, quicker, faster, more fluid, and shut down everybody he played against.

For some reason Benson screams bust to me. I don't know why, because I'm not usually a guy who gets caught up in measureables and Benson has been really really productive in college. But for some reason I smell a bust. I have nothing to base it on, so I'm probably way off base...or it could just be the salami sandwich I found in my pocket from last week. I dunno, but I smell something.

If we must draft one at #8, I love the Auburn boys. I'm WAY entrenched in the "draft a CB" camp, though.

In later rounds I'd really like to land Kayjay Harris. I think if he gets to play in his first couple of years he'll be an impact player. I fear, though, if he goes to a team where he's riding pine, he'll lose interest and lose any desire to be a good player.

I won't flip my lid if we get Benson, like I said it's just a stupid feeling that he'll bust. He'll probably turn out to be as good or better than anyone else in the draft.

I think we are all a little bit wary after Thomas Jones and we want a sure thing. And I still have questions about the OL. Are we really set there as Green indicated or does it need more upgrading?

CB's are deep this year as well, wouldn't you agree that Green knows what he is doing on the offensive side of the ball? I like the Auburn boys as well, but would love it if Henry was here so we could address the CB position as well as some depth on the o-line. Minus LJ and Clement.

It's weird how we haven't solved the CB position yet, it would be nice to get Rolle or pac-man, but I like C. Rodgers and a BPA in the 2nd round. Last year we got 3 first rounders in the first 3 rounds, great draft last year. This year is a different draft, no top 5, but very deep in some areas.

Is Kayjay worth a shave?

If we pick Benson, I would not be upset. He is a work horse back.

A couple of thoughts though:

What if Warner struggles and our passing game doesn't get off the ground? The upside of picking a back like Benson is that he can grind out out 20 - 30 carries a game and we can use the running game and our defense to try and win games.

On the flip side, what if our passing game works? Would we give Benson the ball enough to be effective? Also with Benson's lack of pass catching skills, would Warner be able to use him effectivley?

I hear a lot about Williams being fraile, but I thought he was fairly durable in college. did he miss much time at all in college, or is it just that he's not 230 pounds?

The Cardinals do not want Benson. Not only does he not fit their system, now that I've taken off the Burnt Orange glasses and really thought about his career at Texas, he never did have a special game. He was seldom, if ever, over 100yds against any quality opponent. In my opinion after watching him for 4 years he's no different than Marcel Shipp.

If he hadn't played at Texas he'd be considered 3rd round material. For once the people saying a Texas player never came up large in a big game are right.

Why minus Clemment? I know you want to trade Shelton for Henry, but you're probably not going to find a better backup out there than Clement right now. I don't know why everyone is so hot to get rid of him.

His chances of him busting are the same as him being the best of the 3, in my opinion. Both Auburn backs never looked great in the few games I saw them in. I think Benson will be great if he plays anything like Ricky, he will be a stud. I just hope he doesn't follow Rick enough to be like him on off the field. He did shave his head after Ricky did?

I really don't know, other than we are wanting to win. Clement just might work out, I'm just a fan. LJ just might be better off in AZ with all the fast moving train hoopla too, I just want a RB.

I'd piss if we got him because he's a thomas jones clone. He runs way too upright for the NFL. He would get his head knocked off by LBs which are much bigger and faster in the NFL then what he has been playing against.

Cadillac was banged up his first few years. I know he missed 6 games his junior year and it seems like he misssed quite a bit more until he shared the spotlight more with Brown his senior year.

This whole thing will probably be moot anyway after the trade for Henry goes through and we'll be taking a CB in round 1.

I posted this elsewhere, but it's probably relevant to this discussion as well.

I read some stats on Benson relating to his percentage of yards gained after contact. Benson's numbers come in at just over 60%. The last RB to come out of college with a number over 60% was Earl Campbell.

Which obviously means two things. One - he is a BEAST. Two - he is probably headed for a relatively short, but extremely productive, NFL career. Of this year's RBs the next best was Ryan Moats at 37%, followed by Shelton, Barber and Ronnie Brown.

Benson was a top-3 pick before Brown's workout blew everyone away. He is a workhorse and I hope he is a great back if we pick him, not another Ron Dayne. Benson is not a good pass-catcher which is desparately needed in our offense, also I am concerned about him wearing down after all the carries he took in college. As far as first round picks go, this year I want a corner whether it be Rogers or Pac-Man at 8, it would really help our offense if we solidify our D so that our offense rarely has to play from behind.
