I wouldve preferred we wait 1 more year and get a 2nd look at him. Hes a very good player, but Markus Golden arguably outplayed him this year. Is resigning Chandler mean we lose Golden in 2 years?

Ill cheer for Chandler regardless, but I do think he needs to have a more consistent impact on the game

Markus Golden benefited from having Chandler Jones on the other side.

If this is true, the timing is fantastic as it should create added cap room heading into FA.

I don't think it will create much room if it is as big as we all think. Look at Vernon's contract from last year:

Maybe a million or two saved this year but not a ton if it is a similarly structured contract.

What we need to see is the guaranteed money...which will be spread out over the 5 years...and will enable the Cardinals to save probably $5M on the cap.

What's huge about this is---this is what the Cardinals were not able to do with Calais Campbell's $15.4M cap figure last year, which prevented Steve Keim from putting the key finishing touches on the roster. Not being saddled to Jones' $15M f-tag figure this year, is big.

Well Golden went from having 4 sacks without Jones to having 12.5 sacks with Jones on the team.

Markus was also a rookie the year he got 4, and now grows to 12.5 his 2nd year.

Chandler got 6 sacks his rookie year, and grew to 11.5 his 2nd year.

looks like plain 2nd year growth for a pass rusher to me.

After longing for ONE pass rusher for EONS, I don't care who helped who. As far as I'm concerned they're helping each other out there and that's good for our D.

I don't want the Cardinals to do this structure, but look at Eric Berry's contract. He got a 6 year, 78 million dollar deal. The first year cap hit is only 5 million. Teams can structure it however they want in that sense.

But regardless, more cap or not I dont see this team as a SB team this year.

I am hoping at that point we can restructure or let him go because Golden has become a monster. Two top tier pass rushers is a GREAT problem to have.

And he says 'no'. Then what?

There are plenty of other ways to create space, if needed.

If you expect Palmer to take a cut then Fitz better also. They can just extend an extra year move money out farther to create more room.
I hope we have enough money to fill in the gaps. Both Palmer and Larry have made plenty of dough to play for a ring.

Agree - I thought they would wait until next year when they free up more cap space with Fitz/Palmer gone.

I said when they'd have more cap space

Singing him now most likely will reduce his cap number from the Franchise Tag. The tag counts $15 million against the cap and depending on how the contract is structured could lower that this year.

If the Pats value him so much, why are they not signing him back? The Pats don't overpay for anyone. I think the scheme is what makes some of these guys successful. They always manage to replace these so called studs fairly easily with the draft or just some random FA.
I expect them to. They just didn't want to pay the Tag price.
