The current going Franchise tender for a DE sits at roughly 15.7 million. I am assuming he will be looking for every bit of that and more. He is definitely not as dominant as Von Miller, Justin Houston, K. Mack ect. When you watch those guys, they take the game over and look nearly unblockable at times What do you think his value is and will the Cardinals pony up that much $$$ during the off season? Especially with Carson's cap hit at 24+ million next year..Will be interesting to see what happens.

Resign Jones is good at bringing down the ball carrier and causing fum. Plus would make it so cards can go after less lb in the offseason.

Who cares if he's not Von Miller, he's still the best pass rusher the Cardinals have had since Simeon Rice.

Let him go, he's overrated and not worth the money. This team desperately needs ILB's, Corners, ......hell, they need alot.

Edit: But I'm sure Keim will do the stupid thing and re-sign him.

I feel very much up in the air about Chandler Jones. For one, he is not a 34 OLB and if the Cardinals are going to invest significant cap money on him, perhaps it is time to consider switching to the 43. Secondly, we have been seeing recently what Pats' fans were lamenting---games in which Jones was not a factor. This is partly because the Cardinals lack the depth at edge rusher to keep Jones somewhat fresh, particularly in 4th quarters where games are won and lost. But the truth is last week Jones was handled pretty easily by Washington's backup LT Tye Nsekhe (who is solid, but not great).

I am very curious to see what these last 4 games will tell us about Chandler Jones. If he is not having the impact he had earlier in the season, then it might be wise to f-tag him, see what other edge rushers can be added in FA and/or the draft and then, if the additions look promising, try to trade Jones. On the other hand, if Jones re-emerges as a game changing rusher, then pay him the $17.5M f-tag and see if he warrants a lucrative long-term contract in 2018. I just wonder whether the Cardinals have a strong enough of a handle on Jones at this point to commit to a long-term deal. Jones has talent---no question. But does he have the consistent motor?

Charles Harris is a 34OLB/43DE who really intrigues me---a slightly more athletic version of fellow Missouri Tiger Markus Golden.

Tag him. We have been looking for that dominant pass rusher for years so don't let him get away but also don't tie up the cap on him for years to come if there is any concern that he is not all that. Give it another year and see what the draft brings.

You guys WAY overvalue the guy.

...

EDIT: Nevermind, I get it. You do not want to re-sign him because you think he is overrated, and you want that money put towards other positions.

Fair enough. I do not agree, but understand the thinking, at least the second part of it. It is a valid argument, this team does have a lot of holes.

Just a hard position to find talent at, thus I think that would be a bad decision. Jones is playing very well if you ask me.

I do not want to assume, are you saying you do not think Jones has been a factor in games for the Cardinals ?

If so, I very much disagree with that.

We have the second best defense in the NFL right now in terms of giving up yards. And, we are just 1 ypg behind Baltimore. Letting Chandler Jones go means we will be blowing up the defense and that seems pretty crazy.

Seriously, almost 90% of the seasons the Cardinals have had in Arizona the defense was in the bottom half of the NFL. So, I'm not nit-picking one of the best players on maybe the best defense we've had in AZ.

Sign him.

#1. Its not like the players that are, supposedly better then these players, are available. Yeah, this guy is better than that, but they are not available, won't be available, so its is NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Put any response to that, and guess what, it doesn't matter cause it is not going to happen.

"Well, we will just trade for Richard Sherman, Andrew Luck, Von Miller, Marshal Yanda, Josh Norman, and Bobby Wagner, and the Cardinals will be fine. Keim just has to get it done"

Really, that is what is being pitched ?

There is a big difference in replacing a player like Marquis Cooper and a player like Chandler Jones. REALLY big difference.

#2. Saying, you are going to draft an unknown, and let some of the best players at key position leave, is madness. Pure madness. That is a sure way to be left with no talent on your roster. Having fans complain about the exodus of talent in 1998, and again in 2009, and then asked for that to happen again ? Not on board with that.

#3. The salary cap makes it impossible, 100% IMPOSSIBLE, to have future Hall of Famer's at every position on your roster. And that is the levels we are talking about this. Literally turning our noses up at pro bowlers, all-pros, etc., etc. It is future Hall of Famer's or nothing. Again, its just not realistic.

The Cardinals could get an edge rusher in free agency ? Really? Who? How much will is cost ?

The Cardinals could get an edge rusher in the draft ? Really ? Who ? And when we have a top one in the league on the roster, we are really going to let him go, and then draft an edge rusher ? When the team needs to address, QB, CB, WR, OG ?

Sorry, not on board with any of that thinking, not even a little.

First off, re-sign him no brainer. Second moving back to a 4-3 actually makes sense. Move Golden & Jones to DE, Gunter & Peters play DT, you can move Bucanon to WOLB, we would only need 1 ILB, pay Jones with CC money because then he doesn't need to be re-signed. You need a lot more in 3-4 than in a 4-3 and it would be easier for ARZ to fill those holes in a 4-3. May have to draft another OLB or sign one in FA.

That $100+M Chandler wants and will get is backbreaking. I just dont think he's dominant enough to warrant it.

The NFL market has become a paid-by-position market, not paid-by-performance. "Oh, youre a starting CB or pass rusher? Let me offer you more money than the last starter at your position who got paid; regardless if that player is better than you."

Why should we pay Chandler $18M per year, while Golden makes $1M per (on his rookie deal)? Chandler isnt 18x better than Golden.
