I know he's played well against the Suns, but almost every center who can breath does so! Anyone give me their assessment of Frye's defensive abilities? I know he can shoot, but can he defend? Kind of curious about him because of his youth.

Its not very good. He doesn't get a lot of blocks and he's still quite thin so gets pushed around a lot. But Id rather watch him play than Robin Lopez and his lead feat.

The guy is softer than wet tissue paper. He is better than Lopez, but that ain't saying much.

Although I like Frye and think he hasn't truly scratched the surface of his abilities, I wouldn't be super excited if the Suns picked him up. He is kinda just more of the same. Another athletic, offensive minded, soft, defensive deficient "big man" doesn't get me excited at all.

I am one of the extreme minorities on this board who think Lopez will be just fine. Keep in mind the kid is still only 20 years old. I am not saying he is going to be a great player at any point, but I still think he can be a solid defensive center who isn't a liability offensively.

That said, I don't think that time is now, and we obviously will need some additional depth in the front court. I wouldn't be upset if we picked up Frye, but I think there are better options out there for us.

Also, I don't think it's necessarily a good sign that his minutes, rebounds, and points have decreased each year he has been in the league (of course the latter 2 are greatly influenced by the former).

I guess what I am saying is that I disagree. Frye is not a better option at center for us than Lopez. But like I said, we are going to need additional depth. If we are keeping Amare I would rather sign a guy with some toughness, defense, and rebounding even if his offensive game is minimal, than a guy who is good offensively but is soft, poor defensively, and not a great rebounder.

In a van...down by the river.
I'll take the Midget Clown over Channing.
Both these guys are terrible but Channing's been terrible longer than Lopez so there might still be a shred of upside for our 6'2" center.

Frye is OK for depth. However, if Lopez is our starting center, you can add anybody you want and it won't matter. I like adding Fry if you can go back and forth between Frye and Lopez off the bench but neither one of those guys should start in the NBA.

It's a sad day in Suns history if this board has resorted to discussing Channing Frye.

If Lopez is the Suns starting center... well that is scary.

Frye was 12/6 his rookie year. He got injured, went to Portland, and really didn't get much of a chance. I think he'd be a decent rotation player. Definitely better than Swift. He'd compliment Amare well in spurts, can run the court, and can also hit the jumper if needed.

I wouldn't mind if the Suns brought in Frye for added depth. Put him in the Suns system with Nash and I bet he has a career year.

way too much hate here for a guy that is a legitimate servicible backup. No one is pimping him to be an allstar but he is being bashed like that's his current status.
