Although I like Frye and think he hasn't truly scratched the surface of his abilities, I wouldn't be super excited if the Suns picked him up. He is kinda just more of the same. Another athletic, offensive minded, soft, defensive deficient "big man" doesn't get me excited at all.
I am one of the extreme minorities on this board who think Lopez will be just fine. Keep in mind the kid is still only 20 years old. I am not saying he is going to be a great player at any point, but I still think he can be a solid defensive center who isn't a liability offensively.
That said, I don't think that time is now, and we obviously will need some additional depth in the front court. I wouldn't be upset if we picked up Frye, but I think there are better options out there for us.
Also, I don't think it's necessarily a good sign that his minutes, rebounds, and points have decreased each year he has been in the league (of course the latter 2 are greatly influenced by the former).
I guess what I am saying is that I disagree. Frye is not a better option at center for us than Lopez. But like I said, we are going to need additional depth. If we are keeping Amare I would rather sign a guy with some toughness, defense, and rebounding even if his offensive game is minimal, than a guy who is good offensively but is soft, poor defensively, and not a great rebounder.
