'Titanic' Tops Cheesy Film Moments Survey

2 hours, 1 minute ago Entertainment - AP

NEW YORK - Although "Titanic" soared at the box office in 1997, according to a recent United Kingdom survey, it's most memorable line — "I'm the king of the world!" — sunk.

Baker Warburtons posed the question "What are your top three cheesiest moments in film?" to 2,000 U.K. moviegoers in celebration of the launch of their new cheese flavored crumpets.

The line uttered by Leonardo DiCaprio (news) was followed by Patrick Swayze's "Nobody puts Baby in the corner," from 1987's "Dirty Dancing" and Andie McDowell's "Is it still raining? I hadn't noticed," from the end of 1994's "Four Weddings and a Funeral."

Warburtons reports that surveyed women opted for romantic comedy moments from films such as "Notting Hill" and "Jerry Maguire" while men preferred silly scenes from action flicks like "Top Gun" and "Braveheart." Despite the gender divide, 33 percent of the overall vote unanimously agreed on the "Titanic" yell as the cheesiest moment.

Here's the list of big cheese moments:

1. "Titanic": Leonardo DiCaprio's "I'm the king of the world!"

2. "Dirty Dancing": Patrick Swayze's "Nobody puts Baby in the corner."

3. "Four Weddings And A Funeral": Andie McDowell's "Is it still raining? I hadn't noticed."

3. "Ghost": Demi Moore's "Ditto." to Patrick Swayze's "I love you."

5. "Top Gun": Val Kilmer to Tom Cruise (news): "You can be my wingman anytime"

6. "Notting Hill": Julia Roberts' "I'm just a girl... standing in front of a boy... asking him to love her."

7. "Independence Day": Bill Pullman's "Today we celebrate our Independence Day!"

8. "Braveheart": Mel Gibson (news)'s "They may take our lives, but they will not take our freedom!"

9. "Jerry Maguire": Renee Zellweger to Tom Cruise: "You had me at hello."

10. "The Postman": A blind woman says to Kevin Costner (news): "You're a godsend, a savior." He replies: "No, I'm a postman."

You know, I don't find the ID4 or Braveheart lines cheesy. In fact, Pullman's little speech gives me goosebumps.

Well, Pullman's was cheesy...but the Braveheart one didn't really seem cheesy to me...

They missed the most cheesiest, although they already mentioned the movie.

In the Postman, at the end when a statue was dedicated with the Postman handing off a letter to a kid, a guy in the crowd, with tears in his eyes, said "Sniff, sniff, that was me!" while pointing to the kid. Good gawd! That had swiss, edam, brie, cheddar, and mozzerella written all over it.

Braveheart rocks!

I'm fine with the others though. "You had me at hello." Yeah, right.

I didn't know more than two people even saw The Postman.

I'd also add to the "Cheesy List", any movie that uses the "slow clap" that builds up into a huge round of applause. Wow, those scenes are embarrassing!

The ID4 speech was without a doubt one of the cheesiest speeches in movie hostory only compounded by the fact that is was given by Presdient BILL PULLMAN (if that's not cheesy enough). The other lines above are just good writing and the Braveheart line is one of my all time favorites. Other than that - decent list.

Perhaps, but it got me right in the cockles of my heart. Well, maybe the sub-cockle region.

The thing that gets me more with the Braveheart speech is that it seems all subsequent rally speeches either try to falsely emulate that speech or try to over do that speech and fail miserably. The ones that come to mind are Alexander, Aragorn's speech at the gate (but not Theoden's at the fields, strangely). Braveheart did such a good job, so moving (with appropriate humor and self-effacement) that everyone tries to copy it. They fail, in my opinion.

I think there are other examples, but I can't think of them right now.

totally agree with the Braveheart thing and everyone trying to capture the greatness of that speech in subsequent movies. The Theoden speech and Knokcing swords as he rode down the line chanting for Death was awesome to be sure, but Aragorn's speech was pretty mediocre. In the script I wrote spoofing the EPIC MOVIE in general(Goddman Harry Trotter and the Sorcerer's balls script that sold two weeks beofre we went out wide with mine!!!!), my lead charatcer has to give this huge speech to rally his army(which is actually a bunch of movie geeks who have been liteally sucked into the movie) and then literally, word for word breaks out the Braveheart speech - then one of the movie geeks calls him on it - he then switches over to the Bill Pullman speech and another geek incredulously asks if he's really quoting Bill Pullman - finally the main character just says screw it - and basically tells the geeks that if any of them leave - none of them will get to have sex with the Nymphs(much like the Elves - but all women and all nymphomaniacs) - all the geeks instantly raise their arms in battle and charge into certain death.

Oh my gosh get outta here, that movie is classic for it's ridiculously funny lines!

"Who is your daddy, and what does he do?"

"My mommy says my daddy is a sex machine!"

I was just talking about this movie with my friend the other day - completely dumb movie, but funny as hell!

You know, the receeding shot over the Rohirrim as he says 'and the sun rises', when it is rising at their backs is just awesome.

That's classic! I love it.

I didnt think they were that cheesy either

Edit: on second thoughts, that over-exuberant salute that one background character gave after the ID4 speech was really cheesy though...

When Ben Afflack started singing "Leaving on a Jet Plane" to Liv Tyler in Armageddon - THAT was cheesy.

Okay, well yeah that WAS cheesy. But I don't hold that against Pullman's speech.

Pullman was cheesy elsewhere though. The whole 'Let's mow the road' comment is just silly.

The scene in The Abyss where Ed Harris is trying to revive a nearly-drowned Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio:

"You've never given up on anything in your life! Live, dammit! LIVE!!!"

Very high on the Cheese-o-Meter.

The movie Armageddon was high on the cheese. Everything right down to the Aerosmith theme song. Much much velveeta.
