Hopefully there would be a buyout arrangement by the Hawks.

If they are letting him talk to us, they already have something in mind. You don't let an employee have the conversation unless you are willing to let him go.

Let's do it!

I think the Suns may have the inside track because he may want to return home.

Best news on the new coach front so far! And he is interested enough to ask to talk to us! We'll see if Sarver truly is willing to spend serious $$ for a coach.

Definitely excited. My guess is Triano would be asked to stay on if Budenholzer is hired which is fine by me.

I'm thinking Triano has already been interviewed.

Budenholzer runs a modified triangle. Booker could be the pg in that system pretty easily.

If it only costs the Suns cash and a 2nd round pick or two, I'd be fine with that. If they lose a 1st round pick for him though then that might add unnecessary pressure for Budenholzer to turn this team around right away. If the Suns sent one of their own picks instead of the Bucks or Heat pick that would be even worse.

Two recent moves involving coaches are Kidd going from Brooklyn to Milwaukee and Doc Rivers from Boston to the Clippers. Milwaukee sent 2 2nd rounders to Brooklyn for Kidd while the Clippers sent Boston a 1st round pick for Rivers. Rivers won a title as a coach and Danny Ainge was working that deal so I can't see Atlanta getting a similar haul. A pair of 2nd rounds isn't a big loss, especially if they can use some of the 2nd round picks that we're owed rather than parting with the #31 pick this year. I'd like to keep that pick if possible. I think the Suns should be able to add a decent rookie with that or make a trade for a servicable veteran.

Retaining the previous HC on the staff is not something a new incoming coach does. Dont need the players undermining his authority running to Triano if there would be a conflict.

Triano is a veteran coach who initially did not have any interest in being a head coach again. If he stays, I think he will be a good fit.

I was going to post this as well. It would be bad form for the Suns to do this regardless of how accommodating Triano is.

I think keeping him on staff would be unfair to him and to the new coach.

Not if Triano wants to stay and the new coach is willing. I think Triano's attachment is to the players.

Maybe Triano can be hired in another capacity.

I guess its about what Triano really wants--and Bud too, of course.

I seriously doubt Triano is going to go looking for a head coaching gig elsewhere. He already said that there are parts of the head coaching job he does not like.

I see both sides on this one. In 90% of the cases, the interim should go.

I thought it was a possibility back when he said he just wanted to coach the players and didn't want to be the Head Coach. Once he declared real interest in the position, I think the idea of him coming back in a reduced role went out the window. But sure, if there's a consulting kind of role for him that might work out fine. Hire him to work full time with Jackson or Bender, something like that.

Of course.

I do not think Triano would seek out a head coaching position if he leaves.

He was content to be an assistant coach until the interim position opened.

All I'm saying is the Suns should try to make room for Triano somewhere after this very difficult season... if he wants it.

McDonough and Budenholzer will know if it is reasonable.

I think the Suns should offer Triano the job as the head coach of the Northern Arizona Suns. That would keep him in the loop and it may even help if the Suns sent down guys like Bender and Chriss next year, in addition to some of the other fringe players like Danuel House, Tyler Ulis, Shaq Harrison, Alec Peters, etc.

I was all for Triano being retained as an assistant coach but now that the season is over I agree with others that it would be a bad move by the organization and could create issues with the next head coach. The only way I can see Triano sticking around on the staff is if Nash was hired as the head coach. Nash would most likely hire Triano as an assistant on his staff anyways if he got a head coaching job so I don't see that being an issue but I don't want Nash to coach the Suns at this stage because I'd hate to see him fail.

I was just going to suggest that. Keeps him in the organization but out of Buds hair. Perfect.

I think this is an excellent idea. It would keep Triano in the loop providing he wants the job. He knows the Suns players better than anyone.

I think Triano has done a good job with the Suns players this past season which has been difficult.

I'd like to keep him in the Suns organization if the Suns can find a suitable role for him.

If the Suns hire Budenholzer this will be a great proactive move with so many teams looking for head coaches.

It just doesn't make any sense to me. When a head coach comes in he should have the ability to fill in his assistants as he wishes. If he wants Triano than great, but it shouldn't be something that the team tries to force upon the new head coach.

I'd like to keep Triano in the Suns organization if the Suns can find a suitable role for him. It need not be as an assistant coach. I liked the idea of him coaching the NAZ Suns.
