WHY ARE THEY EVEN INTERVIEWING FASSELL. THEY ALREADY KNOW HIM VERY WELL. JUST WASTED TIME THAT COULD MAKE US LOSE OUT.
In spite of the fact that it was announced that Fassel would not be back next year in N.Y., He was still under contract until the season ended.
I think also, that if you look back to 1994 when they tried to get Norv Turner (Turner had been Jimmy Johnson's OC in Dallas, but Johnson and Jerry Jones had decided to part company after the '93 season), they brough Turner in right away, but he ended up later going to Washington and taking the offer there. The Cards then "settled" for Buddy.
I would guess that remains clearly in Sr.'s mind. I don't think there was much question that Turner was whom "they" wanted but, like last year's free agency, getting a guy in first certainly does not guarantee he will sign.
I think its a slam dunk that Fassel is right at the top of more than one "want list" right now. The Cards would appear to have the inside edge, (somewhat surprisingly). But I know, if I were him, no matter what, I'd do some "shopping" myself to see who's going to offer me "just what" before I make my final decision.
I like the way things are shaking out "SO FAR".
I must say I'm also pleasantly surprised to see that the Cards job DOES seem to be one some of the top prospects are considering.
I think that is a credit to the positive things that Mac and Graves HAVE been able to accomplish so far.
I think some of the candidates see this as a team with some real "possibilities".
