Leinart, the decision to bench him, and the timing of said benching.

If Whisenhunt states from the very beginning that this is an open QB competition, none of this drama is there. (well, there will be some there, but not the type and furor we are seeing now) Instead, he names Leinart the starter. He shot himself in the foot, ESPECIALLY if he had doubts about Leinart prior to this off-season. He could have given the same PC type response he is good at giving.

What team have you been watching the last 3 years???

Again, I don't think that it is just Leinart's performance that is sending him to the bench.

Well, if Faneca is starting at left guard, we'll know that things have changed, and not for the better.

Not really. The Cards have had basically the same starters for the last 2 years. 9 guys who are listed as defensive starters vs the Bears in 2006 were also playing defense for the Cards in the Super Bowl. Only Bertran Berry isn't listed as a starter vs the Steelers.

RWells, Lutui, Sendlein,LBrown,Warner,TH,Boldin,Breaston,Fitz all starters for the past two seasons.

Almost all of the changes this season have come as a result of players leaving via trade (Boldin), Free Agency (Dansby,Rolle) or retirement (Berry,Warner). Who is gone due to lack of performance? McFadden,Okeafor,and Gandy. The latter two more because of age/injury issues than performance.

Of course all this is because the Cards starters for the most part have been performing rather well.
