So last year, our WR coach was a former QB coach. Our QB coach was a former WR coach.........AND our TE coach was a QB at one time and is probably the most qualified to coached QB's.

It is really all starting to make sense.

I said all along that Reich should have been the QB coach...He played in Buffalo and knows the pass happy - hurry up offense well. Also knows a thing or two about coming back from huge defecits, which would've served the Cardinals well this past season.

Todd McNair named Running Backs Coach per Bruce Feldman. Former USC coach.

So Arians is going to hire all his friends. That's great if your Kevin Smith and you want to make a cheap movie to amuse yourself. I'm not sure that's ideal if you're working in a billion-dollar business with lots of jobs on the line if you fail.

So far all the names I've heard are primarily guys who've played for Arians at some point. That's a curious situation, if it's true the Cards didn't like Horton because they didn't think he could hire a quality staff.

I don't think it's necessarily that Horton couldn't build a quality staff, but that there was so many questions regarding the names Horton submitted.

If you're to believe Jurecki, then this is what transpired regarding Horton's staff:

Horton submitted the names of Lou Spanos as DC and Kirby Wilson as OC.
Bidwill and Keim seemed to send the signals that those weren't names they were really excited about.
Horton then went after Norv Turner, but those chances seemed very, very slim.

If all of that is accurate, that is a whole lot of uncertainty on your coaching staff. Horton stated that he wouldn't call the defense. That would mean they would have had a rookie HC (at any level), someone who has never called plays (at any level), and a guy who has never called a defense at the NFL level (I don't know if he or Mora Jr. called the defense at UCLA, but I assume Spanos did).

Also, an update on the staff. Jurecki tweeted tonight that it looks like the Jaguars won't be letting Sullivan out of his contract so he won't be coming here.

The staff picks I've seen so far are solid (other than bowles, but that has it's own caveats). Just because Arians has worked with these guys doesn't mean they aren't good. All coaches do this in the first place, and second, Arians has been coaching for decades, including under Bear Bryant, so his "friends list" looks like a new york socialite's.

Kitchens looks like he'll be the lone survivor---so he can tell the tale---a la Moby Dick:

"Call me Kitchmael."
Good one, Mitch.

On another thread, I raised the possibility of the hiring of Arians/release of Horton being scripted (especially in light of the speed Horton was picked up by the Browns).

That Kitchens was the sole offensive coach to be retained makes me ask: "Why?" One possible answer might be that the Cards (who had been in touch with Bruce's agent going back to the date Wiz was fired) knew in advance that Bruce wanted to keep Freddie).

Not sayin'/Just sayin'.

Wikapedia already has Bowles appointed Cardinal DC effective Jan. 18. No corroboration anywhere as of 10:45 am ET.

If true, Wow.

Had the same thought myself.

Bruce the moose said that HC is all about relationships- It was nice to see Indy miss him from the bottom up! Relationships were whisenhunt's flaw- from the way he treated EDGE and his revolting open door policy- My biggest worry is the lack of committment to the run game- it seems an after thought to BA too!

Vick Ballard would disagree with you...Pretty good rookie campaign.

Dog fighting charges? What's up with that?

http://articles.latimes.com/2007/aug/30/sports/sp-mcnair30

McNair, 42, said both cases stemmed from his failed attempts at dog breeding.

"I had a number of different breeds at different points of time over a couple years," he said. "I realized I got in over my head. I wasn't able to maintain it properly and it cost me."

Law enforcement authorities who investigated the 1996 case paint a different picture. They say "all indications" showed the former NFL running back was involved in pit bull fighting.

"We didn't witness a dogfight taking place, but . . . that's what the dogs were used for," said East Greenwich Township Police Det.-Sgt. Charles Barone. "There was a treadmill used for [dog] training, and we found the dogs in an unsheltered, wooded area far from the highway, where they were held down by [automobile towing] chains connected to large tire rims. It was deplorable."

Gloucester County Judge J.R. Powell said in court that insufficient evidence kept him from convicting McNair of dogfighting. However, prosecutors won misdemeanor convictions against McNair on 17 counts of animal cruelty and failure to license dogs.

I have two main-thoughts about this coaching staff as it is being finalized.

First off, I really like how it is a mix of young, energetic coaches and older, more experienced coaches. I think Arians is trying to pass something on, and would like for Tom Moore and Tom Pratt to do the same. For the same reason I’m very excited to see who they will bring in to coach the offensive line. I know Jurecki were just speculating about Alex Gibbs, but man, would I like it if he were to fix the line right now and further bring on some knowledge to Goodwin. Also I keep thinking Arians might bring in Matt Baker, who is the offensive coordinator at Central York High School but has been the starting quarterback at Temple. I think Arians mentioned Baker in his press conference. I have read some things about him and apparently they see him as a very bright mind that is extremely good at reading the defense. Some of his fellow coaches call him ‘Coach Golden Boy’.

The other thing I can’t help but thinking is that this is sort of a temporary solution. I don’t think that’s bad at all because it would mean that Mr. Bidwill and Keim are trying to win right know instead of waiting a few years. I just think that with Arians at 60, Tom Moore and Tom Pratt over 70 and who knows what else they will bring in, it’s not exactly a coaching staff ready to form a dynasty. Further I keep thinking that besides Arians they talked to Mike McCoy, Jay Gruden, Todd Haley and Ray Horton. That’s four young or relatively young coaches, who are all hungry and who might all be the head coach for a very long time. I think it’s quite realistic that in two or three years, if Arians and his staff has identified and developed a franchise quarterback, they could be replaced with some younger guys. At that time college-hotshots like David Shaw or Bill O’Brien might also be interested in a job in the NFL. Again, I’m not in any way saying that this is a bad thing, neither for the present or the future. I’m just saying it might be someone to think about.

So is there an up to date list somewhere online of the coaching staff? Haven't seen/heard of any additions lately....
