I have two main-thoughts about this coaching staff as it is being finalized.
First off, I really like how it is a mix of young, energetic coaches and older, more experienced coaches. I think Arians is trying to pass something on, and would like for Tom Moore and Tom Pratt to do the same. For the same reason I’m very excited to see who they will bring in to coach the offensive line. I know Jurecki were just speculating about Alex Gibbs, but man, would I like it if he were to fix the line right now and further bring on some knowledge to Goodwin. Also I keep thinking Arians might bring in Matt Baker, who is the offensive coordinator at Central York High School but has been the starting quarterback at Temple. I think Arians mentioned Baker in his press conference. I have read some things about him and apparently they see him as a very bright mind that is extremely good at reading the defense. Some of his fellow coaches call him ‘Coach Golden Boy’.
The other thing I can’t help but thinking is that this is sort of a temporary solution. I don’t think that’s bad at all because it would mean that Mr. Bidwill and Keim are trying to win right know instead of waiting a few years. I just think that with Arians at 60, Tom Moore and Tom Pratt over 70 and who knows what else they will bring in, it’s not exactly a coaching staff ready to form a dynasty. Further I keep thinking that besides Arians they talked to Mike McCoy, Jay Gruden, Todd Haley and Ray Horton. That’s four young or relatively young coaches, who are all hungry and who might all be the head coach for a very long time. I think it’s quite realistic that in two or three years, if Arians and his staff has identified and developed a franchise quarterback, they could be replaced with some younger guys. At that time college-hotshots like David Shaw or Bill O’Brien might also be interested in a job in the NFL. Again, I’m not in any way saying that this is a bad thing, neither for the present or the future. I’m just saying it might be someone to think about.
