Saban agrees to extension, will make more than $11 million in '17

The builder of college football's most dominant program is being rewarded for his efforts.

Alabama announced on Tuesday that it had agreed with head coach Nick Saban on a long-term contract extension that will pay him $11.125 million in 2017, including a $4 million bonus. USA Today first reported the news.

His contract was extended for three years and now runs through the 2024 season. The eight-year deal calls for Saban to be paid $65 million. His 2017 salary is by far the greatest for a college coach since USA Today started tracking such salaries in 2006.

Northwestern defensive star suspended after felony cocaine arrest
Xavier Washington started eight games at defensive end for the Wildcats last season
Northwestern defensive end Xavier Washington was reportedly found in possession of cocaine when Evanston Police were called to an off-campus disturbance on Sunday at 3:30 a.m., according to the Daily Northwestern.

A school spokesperson confirmed the arrest to the Chicago Tribune, noting that Washington, a starter in eight games for the Wildcats last season, has been suspended indefinitely while the school investigates.

South Carolina All-SEC LB among trio of Gamecocks accused in bar assault
Skai Moore was one of three players accused of hitting a former Marine in Columbia
Skai Moore was an All-SEC linebacker and arguably South Carolina's best defensive player before a neck injury forced him to sit out all of 2016. Moore's return is among the top storylines for the Gamecocks this fall, but his name has surfaced in headlines for other reasons -- as one of three players accused of a bar assault over the weekend.

According to the State, Moore, wide receiver Deebo Samuel and linebacker Jalen Dread were identified by bar staff and captured on video striking a man outside a bar in Columbia, South Carolina. The victim, a 24-year old described by a family member as a former Marine, told officers who arrived on the scene he confronted the players after they "knocked his phone out of his hand inside the bar."

"The subjects then became agitated, refuting the accusation," per the police report, via the State. "After a few seconds, the incident escalated to the subjects physically assaulting him."

Judge who blasted Charlie Strong removes herself from USF player's case
A video of Judge Margaret Taylor scolding a USF player in court went viral this week
The judge who scolded South Florida defensive end Ladarius Jackson and questioned Charlie Strong's ability to control his team in her courtroom earlier this week has recused herself from the case.

Judge Margaret Taylor, who attended USF as an undergrad, told Jackson she was "embarrassed and ashamed" of being an alum and that his alleged actions were "reprehensible." Jackson then went after Strong, who is yet to coach a single game at USF.

Transferring Notre Dame graduate QB Malik Zaire is expected to make his decision before the SEC holds meetings which could allow him to transfer to Florida.

While there has reportedly been mutual interest between Zaire and the Gators, Florida would need the SEC to allow an exemption for the graduate transfer -- the program is currently barred from accepting such transfers after grads Mason Halter and Anthony Harrell were unable to meet academic benchmarks when they joined the program in 2015. Zaire is expected to make his decision on May 19, before the SEC will meet to discuss the current ruling. With Florida potentially out of the running, Zaire's decision may come down to Texas, Wisconsin or Harvard

LSU expects star defender Arden Key back in June
LSU's star pass-rusher Arden Key looks set to return to the team for the start of summer semester after taking a leave of absence for personal reasons this spring.

"I expect him to be back in summer school in June," head coach Ed Orgeron said at a function Friday as per Ross Dellenger of The Advocate. "(He's) doing very well. Still has things he's working on."

Orgeron also said that the team is targeting the June 5 start of summer semester as the date Key would return to the program, allowing him to take part in summer workouts.

Penn State's Joey Julius leaves school, team to seek treatment for eating disorder
Julius addressed his absence from spring practice on Facebook
Joey Julius developed a reputation around the Big Ten for laying big hits in 2016, but as the spotlight brightened on the 5-foot-10, 260-pound kicker, the story became much more complex than fans getting a kick out of seeing the specialist get physical on the field.

Julius revealed last October he suffers from anxiety, depression and a binge eating disorder, for which has sought treatment in the past. Some Penn State fans have been inquiring about his absence from spring practice and the Nittany Lions' spring game, so Julius took to Facebook on Friday to provide an update on his status with the team.

"I have been struggling over the last couple months with my eating disorder. It got to the point where I had to return to St. Louis to seek further treatment at the McCallum place. Recovery is a wonderful and beautiful thing that I am working on returning too," Julius wrote on his Facebook page

Auburn redshirt freshman QB Woody Barrett will transfer.

According to his high school coach, Barrett intends to transfer to a JUCO for the fall and then sign with a different SEC team prior to the 2018 season. The former four-star recruit was ranked by the 247Sports composite as the No. 6 dual-threat signal-caller in his class. Jarrett Stidham's arrival probably sealed Barrett's fate. "He's kind of towards the bottom of the depth chart right there," Tigers coach Gus Malzahn said of Barrett last week.
