The Indianapolis Colts continue to reinforce the cornerback position. The team announced on Monday that they are re-signing free agent David Long Jr.

The addition of Long comes after the team already signed Charvarius Ward to upgrade the starting lineup while also adding Corey Ballentine to boost the depth, which is what Long brings to the table as well.

Long was signed to the Colts practice squad prior to Week 1 of the 2024 season and then was added to the 53-man roster in early October.

The bulk of his playing time came on special teams, where he played 106 snaps across three of the six different phases. Defensively, his only appearance came in Week 16 against Tennessee, where he was penalized twice in only nine snaps, per PFF.

This is a low-risk addition for the Colts. They add to their depth at cornerback and bring in some special teams experience in the process. However, if Long doesn't make the roster coming out of training camp, I'll guess that the Colts can move on from him with minimal or no salary cap impact.

Contract details haven't been reported, but James Boyd of The Athletic reported it's a one-year deal for Long.
