Not only do the Colts plan to add Bruce Arians, but Indianapolis also plans to hire former Steelers LB coach Keith Butler as its DC.

At this point I dont care because Im happy with Horton.. But why they let Butler go to an AFC team but wouldnt let us interview him? So who is the heir appearent for DC in Pittsburgh now?

The Steelers do not have to grant permission.

Oooops! Didn't notice "former" either, but, I'm surprised we hadn't heard he was available before now.

Yeah, I don't know why it stings a bit, because I like what Horton did, but, for two years we tried and failed.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Colts plan to hire Steelers linebackers coach Keith Butler as their defensive coordinator.

Butler is in his ninth year on the Steelers’ coaching staff after joining the team prior to the 2003 season and has been instrumental in the development of James Farrior, James Harrison and LaMarr Woodley, among others. The Steelers have consistently led the NFL in total defense, rushing defense and sacks, under his tenure. His experience in coaching Pittsburgh's 3-4 defense figures to signal major personnel changes in Indianapolis.

Dang Gee. You are really up on what's happening in the NFL. All I have to do is sign in once or twice daily and I have all the NFL events in one place. Thanks for all your efforts.

His contract expired, and so he was open to sign anywhere. In previous years, he was under contract and so the Steelers denied teams from interviewing him.

His contract expires 2/15. Pitt has agreed to the interview but remains interested in retaining him. Guess he's getting a little tired of waiting on Le Beau to retire.

Had we not got Horton, I would be angry. But we did so we should care less unless he was going to come here and coach LB's.

Looks like the Tampa 2 is a dying defense. The Colts are going to be pretty bad for at least the next couple of years. I have never seen a whole organization bulldoze itself and rebuild so completely like the Colts are doing now.

I kinda like the way their doing this. Best way of getting rid of a band-aid is just ripping it off. Do it now if you know it's happening eventually.

This is how you move on from a HOF QB, and a team with a great recent history of winning. You move on completely. It isn't like they have much talent that they are making expendable by transitioning as the only player that is at risk is Freeney, whom I believe is in his 30's. I don't see them resigning Mathis, and their next best players are corners.

Blowing it up keeps fans in a realistic frame of mind. This is a bad team whose talent is almost all over 30. In order to keep pressure off Luck, the Colts have set up a plan that should give him 3 years before fans start expecting the playoffs again.

He got blocked so many times from promotion to other teams that when his contract was up, he bolted.

I dunno. I think I'd rather go the Denver Broncos route and maintain continuity while averaging 9.1 wins per season and going to the playoffs four times over 10 years.

But, you know, diff'rent strokes, I guess.

LB Coach Keith Butler staying with Steelers and not going to Indy to be defensive coordinator.
